The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Especially your final analysis of the perpetrator’s characteristics, I find it very reasonable. I completely agree.”

Immediately after, Director Hou also nodded upon hearing this: ”Not only does Mr. Chen agree, but I completely agree too.

”In this case, many uncertainties have caused the killer to change his criminal behavior, leading to our confusion.”

”Thankfully, Mr. Jiang quickly made us see through the essence of the matter.”

Despite Director Hou’s outward agreement, he still harbored doubts about Jiang An’s third point.

Because currently, there is still a conclusion pending, specifically whether the killer had any special protective measures during the crime.

It’s known that in previous cases, some suspects utilized safety measures when committing crimes related to women.

If the Jiangcheng experiment results are negative, then he would fully support Jiang An’s analysis.

After the conversation ended, Mr. Chen furrowed his brow and said, ”We’ve analyzed a lot just now, but I think there’s still one issue worth exploring.”

”If we can determine a physical defect is a crucial characteristic of the suspect, we face a significant challenge in that this characteristic is located in a male’s private area.”

”We can’t exactly pull a guy aside and demand he takes off his pants for examination, can we?”

Upon hearing this, laughter erupted throughout the venue.

Of course, glancing around, all attendees were men; there were no women present.

Mr. Chen’s words indeed reflected the reality, since such a physiological defect isn’t as obvious as a missing arm or leg.

After listening to this, Director Hou nodded slightly: ”Indeed, Mr. Chen’s concerns are quite valid.”

”Though the characteristic is evident and behaviorally marked, identifying it among Guangling’s hundreds of thousands of permanent residents is still challenging.”

At these words, the previously relaxed meeting room transformed into a silent and tense atmosphere once more.

After a considerable pause, Jiang An listened and then glanced around before saying, ”Everyone, I have a solution in mind; let me know if you find it fitting.”

His words were like the long-awaited rain after a drought, instantly capturing every participant’s attention.

At that moment, he became the most brilliant star in the crowd, the wise thinker in everyone’s hearts.

Then, he spoke, ”During our analysis, we identified that this man should be unable rather than unwilling.”

”And this inability is likely related to male genitalia issues.

”I think, typically, congenital male impotence is rare, while acquired impotence often results from physical trauma.”

”Thus, I believe we should investigate the direction of such trauma.”

With those words, Mr. Chen and Director Hou suddenly brightened in understanding, grasping Jiang An’s intent.

Director Hou was surprised and asked, ”Do you mean hospital records?”

As soon as he said this, Jiang An replied, ”Exactly, Director Hou. In this case, if acquired trauma leads to a defect, anyone suffering injury in that region would immediately rush to a hospital.”

”Additionally, if that area isn’t treated at a hospital, it would certainly become infected, leading to more severe consequences. So, we should access the hospital’s urology records.”

”Of course, the scope and timeline for accessing these records may need to be long, as we don’t know when, at what age, or where this person got injured.”

After a brief pause, Jiang An sighed deeply, ”This time, I believe we need to test our luck.”

”If this person is a native Guangling person and was injured in Guangling, then we can swiftly identify who he is.”

”However, if the perpetrator was injured and treated elsewhere before committing the crime locally, then our work becomes significantly harder.”

Upon hearing Jiang An’s words, everyone refocused and listened attentively.

Mr. Chen pulled out two cigarette packs from his pocket since one pack wasn’t enough to go around, he handed out individual cigarettes.

After all, the attendees were his team members, his brave comrades.

Now was the perfect time to reward them.

As the saying goes, ”troops must be fed before setting out.”

Everyone picked up a cigarette and lit it with a lighter.

Instantly, the sound of lighters flicking echoed throughout the room.

The previously clear-aired meeting room quickly filled with smoke; forty to fifty chimneys smoking together would be overwhelming for most people.

However, at the moment, everyone had forgotten about the smoky air, focusing instead on their inner turmoil.

Realizing what Jiang An said might be true, that if the killer was injured and treated elsewhere before committing the crime locally, then considering the nationwide population, even provincial hospital checks could take a long time.

With the vast potential pool, even excluding private hospitals, navigating only public ones would drag the investigation out for a year or more.

Thus, criminal investigations often rely on probability and luck.

When luck is good, everything aligns perfectly.

Once everyone had finished half a cigarette, Jiang An continued, ”That’s why our next step involves thoroughly investigating all of Guangling’s hospitals. Any that have urology or surgical departments must be rigorously reviewed, looking through records from the past ten, twenty, even thirty years for cases involving injuries to the male genital region.”

”Based on the suspect’s hormone levels, his desire is so intense that he likely isn’t over forty. Expanding the injury timeline to past thirty years should cover ninety percent of the interval.”

After Jiang An finished speaking, he turned to look at Mr. Chen and Director Hou, exchanging glances before all three nodded in agreement.

Then, Mr. Chen said, ”Mr. Jiang’s analysis was excellent; the thought process was clear, reasoning was sound, and logic thorough. I’ve benefited greatly.”

”Therefore, we are unwaveringly determined in our next investigative steps. From now on, we must be at peak readiness, starting locally in Guangling, scrutinizing any hospital with a surgical department.”

”As Mr. Jiang mentioned earlier, we aim to search for cases as far back as thirty, even forty years without missing any potential urological injuries.”

After he finished, he turned to Director Hou and asked, ”Director Hou, is there anything more you’d like to add?”

Director Hou nodded and said, ”I’ll just add a brief point.”

”What Mr. Jiang shared was already comprehensive, but there’s another investigation direction that could run concurrently.”

With these words, everyone’s gaze focused on Director Hou.

Aside from investigating hospitals, was there another way to find this person?

”Please continue.”

Mr. Chen immediately lifted his pen, ready to take notes.

Director Hou spoke in a low voice, ”Given the killer’s strong desires in this case, I’m wondering if he might have attempted to relieve them elsewhere in addition to through criminal acts? For instance, could places like special care facilities or red-light districts be areas he frequented?”

Suddenly, everyone was enlightened, seeing a broader perspective.

Director Hou continued, ”Therefore, I think it’s necessary to mobilize police station and security team personnel to understand whether any workers in the related sectors have encountered someone with such a psychological disorder.”

”While focusing on the presence of venting behaviors involving the deceased, is there a chance these behaviors exist among living individuals?”

Upon this point, Mr. Chen quickly nodded, ”Director Hou, you’ve raised an excellent suggestion. We shall proceed on both fronts from hereon.”
