The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

At this moment, Qin Feng is by the river, watching the underwater divers recover.

It’s true what they say: money makes the world go round.

Even late at night, as long as the money is right, the diving team is online 24/7, ready at your beck and call.

Standing next to Qin Feng is another young officer.

He takes out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, pulls out two sticks, hands one to Qin Feng, and puts the other in his own mouth.

After lighting the cigarettes, the two of them quietly smoke, watching the divers work in the water.

There are three divers in total, all in a line, each equipped with gear, wearing goggles, and carrying oxygen tanks.

After smoking for a while, the young officer turns and asks, ”Mr. Li, diving at night probably isn’t cheap, right?”

Li Jian turns his head, twitches his mouth, and replies, ”Of course, it isn’t.”

”Before, recovering a body during the day only cost 1,000 bucks. Guess how much this time?”

The young officer raises two thumbs: ”Double?”

”More than double, it’s 3,000 bucks.”

”That expensive?”

”Mainly because the river is quite long. They started dredging 500 meters away and have extended nearly a kilometer now.”

The young officer remarks in surprise, ”3,000 bucks, each person gets 1,000, that’s a third of a month’s salary in one night.”

Li Jian says solemnly, ”That’s different; others make a living based on skill.”

Hearing this, the young officer chuckles and says, ”Mr. Li, actually we also make a living based on skill, though I feel like a beast of burden.”

At these words, Li Jian turns his head and says, ”What? Complaining about a detective’s low salary?”

”Not at all, not at all. I’m a detective because I believe in it.”

Li Jian takes two puffs of the cigarette, ”That’s more like it!”

After a slight pause, his expression turns serious, ”We still don’t know if our 3,000 bucks will yield any results.”

The young officer smiles and says, ”Regardless of the outcome, even if we find nothing, we still owe them 3,000 bucks.”

......

minutes later, the three divers searched the endpoint again, still without any result.

Then they emerged from the water, bringing their tools.

One of the middle-aged men removed the tube from his mouth and said, ”Mr. Li, we have searched twice already.”

”We didn’t see the box you described, nor even a small container.”

Qin Feng nodded, then took out a packet of cigarettes and handed one to each of them.

”You’ve worked hard, coming back and forth late at night.”

”Mr. Li.” He lit his cigarette with the fire passed from Li Jian, saying, ”We’ve been partners for a long time.”

”Mainly because Mr. Li arranged the work; otherwise, the 3,000 bucks would only cover one go.”

While speaking, he looks back at the water, ”However, I apologize for tonight, as we didn’t find any valuable clues for you.”

”Not finding anything is also a kind of result,” Qin Feng raises his hand, patting the shoulder of the opposite party.

”You have worked hard, go rest first.”

”If there are any related recovery tasks in the future, we’ll contact again.”

”Alright, Mr. Li, let’s try for a discount next time.”

”Let’s also try to make it much later that next time; usually, when we call you for recovery, it’s generally for bodies in the water.”

The middle-aged man laughed, showing a set of white teeth, ”As long as it’s not recovering a giant’s height body, we brothers can accept it.”

Watching the few people leave, Li Jian turned and said, ”Let’s go, we should head back too.”

”Just now, Mr. Chen texted me to organize a meeting.”

hour later, the criminal investigation team’s meeting room is filled with people, with smoke swirling in the air.

Deputy Director Chen Guan sits at the head position, turning his head to take a look at the whole venue and says, ”Are all teams present? Let’s start the meeting.”

Then he glanced at Director Hou, who nodded.

”We ended the last meeting halfway.”

”We suddenly discovered a female body, and the autopsy for this female body has been completed with identity confirmed. Based on the situation of this body, we can totally handle these two cases together.”

”Now, let’s have each group discuss their investigation situations.”

”Including the emotional experiences of the two deceased, the external investigation, as well as the underwater recovery and technological investigation.”

”Today, under the guidance of the provincial expert group, let’s focus our energy and have a discussion.”

After finishing, he turned to his left and said, ”Mr. Chen, how’s your group doing with the interpersonal relations of the deceased?”

”Especially with so many hotel records of the two deceased, have there been any suspicious individuals found?”

Deputy Captain Chen Ming of the criminal investigation team immediately responded, ”Mr. Chen, our group has conducted a field investigation into the interpersonal networks and marriage situations of the deceased Li Qian and Jiang Shan.”

”The current situation is as follows: Li Qian, 32 years old, divorced, has one daughter living with her ex-husband outside the city, and no record of the ex-husband entering this city.”

”Jiang Shan, 23 years old, two are friends and live together.”

”However, based on their interacting circumstances, both have wider social circles and relatively depraved emotional lives, especially Jiang Shan, who has many hotel records.”

”We’ve sorted through the hotel guests and found that Jiang Shan had stayed with 25 different men.”

”Our preliminary investigation shows that these individuals were mostly contacted through online dating apps.”

”We have already identified and confirmed this point with the parties involved.”

”On the night of the incident, 20 of them had no time to commit the crime, while the remaining five claimed to be home alone, with no way to confirm.”
