The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Immediately, two young forensic doctors worked together, one on each side.

They made incisions along the skin of the deceased’s neck, down along the spine, until above the deceased’s buttocks.

After completing the incision, the two forensic doctors cooperated again, using tweezers in one hand to lift the deceased’s skin, maintaining some tension, while holding the Willow Leaf Blade in the other hand, continuously separating the fascia of the subcutaneous muscles.

Five minutes later, the deceased’s back was completely opened up, fully exposing the ribs.

To the naked eye, it looked like pork ribs in a market, with bones between the red flesh.

Next, Jiang An raised his hand and pointed, saying, ”Look at the obvious red changes in the muscles on both sides of the deceased’s scapula.”

”Oh! Is this bleeding?”

One of the young forensic doctors asked curiously.

After all, this was their first time performing an autopsy on the back of a deceased person.

Jiang An nodded at the words: ”Yes, but the amount of bleeding is not very large.”

”You two go ahead and separate the deceased’s scapula on both sides, exposing the bone gaps.”

After instructing them on the operation method, Jiang An continued to explain the theoretical knowledge behind it.

”The ribs are right under the deceased’s scapula, spanning from the second to seventh rib.”

”According to the principles of physics, if the deceased’s back experienced external pressure, there would be friction between the scapula and ribs.”

”The result of this friction directly leads to local muscle bleeding.”

”Moreover, the stronger the pressure, the more the local microvascular compression leads to bleeding.”

Then, Jiang An looked at the deceased’s lip area.

”The cause of death for this deceased was suffocation due to pressure on the mouth and nose.”

”During the process of suffocation, it is more likely to cause a large pressure inside the deceased’s body.”

”When the vascular pressure is very high, microvessels are more likely to bleed.”

After hearing Jiang An’s analysis, the two young forensic doctors nodded repeatedly, almost like chickens pecking at rice.

Clear, like a university professor’s thorough analysis.

They understood the mechanism of scapula bleeding.

Crucially, today’s autopsy made the two deeply realize the significant meaning of scapula bleeding.

Finally, Jiang An summarized: ”For any cause of death involving pressure on the deceased’s back, an autopsy can be performed to identify it.”

At this moment, Chen Guan stepped forward and asked solemnly, ”Mr. Jiang, do you think the massive muscle bleeding in this deceased indicates a very evident struggle?”

Jiang An nodded: ”Exactly.”

”The more apparent the struggle, the more evident the bleeding.”

”The blood vessels inside the deceased’s scapula were torn badly, larger amounts of bleeding occurred, and the local area already shows dark red patchy changes.”

Following the direction of his finger, Director Hou and Chen Guan saw clearly.

Director Hou nodded: ”This autopsy method, I’ve seen an old forensic doctor handle once in the office, indeed it’s rare.”

Chen Guan was very pleased upon hearing this, and looked up at the two young forensic doctors in front of him.

He said, ”Working on a postmortem with Mr. Jiang, you two must have gained a lot!”

The two forensic doctors looked at each other, both nodding repeatedly.

”The knowledge point Mr. Jiang shared with us isn’t found in books, yet it has strong theoretical support. We really learned a lot today.”

The other forensic doctor also expressed admiration: ”I think this knowledge point should be included in forensic pathology.”

”Next time the manuscript editor calls for submissions, I’ll definitely suggest Mr. Jiang’s analysis process to the experts.”

Mr. Chen smiled upon hearing this and said: ”Are you qualified to make suggestions to experts?”

”Mr. Chen, my teacher is one of the editorial board members.”

”I’ll ask him next time to include this point as part of the postmortem signs of mechanical asphyxia caused by mouth and nose pressure.”

Jiang An smiled and said, ”That’s quite a tangent.”

”However, this is what we summarized from practical work.”

”Forensic science is a practical discipline, requiring continuous summarization and exploration in practice, ultimately rising to the theoretical level.”

”Of course, every action must be backed by solid theoretical support.”

......

Then, the two forensic doctors sutured the deceased’s back skin and left the forensic anatomical room with the evidence box.

As they left the forensic anatomical room, Deputy Director Chen Guan turned to look at Director Hou and Jiang An.

”It’s late at night, you’ve been working hard for so long; how about we find a place for some supper to fill our stomachs?”

”There’s no need for that, let’s go to the lab and check how the test results are?” Director Hou said. ”We just extracted DNA from the deceased.”

”If we can match the DNA to relevant personnel, our meal will be more enjoyable.”

After Director Hou spoke, Chen Guan nodded: ”Director Hou, it’s just that you two have been on a long business trip here in Guangling City, I feel a bit apologetic.”

Jiang An smiled and said, ”Mr. Chen, there’s no need to apologize.”

”Back in Jiangcheng, this was common for me at the grassroots level.”

”Sometimes handling cases in the county, I might not go home for a week.”

”If Mr. Chen feels really sorry, you can put some instant noodles in the lab for the experimenters to eat when they’re hungry.”

”We’ll wait in the lab for results later, whether there are male components inside the deceased directly relates to our next investigation direction.”
