The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”We also thank you for bringing us excellent criminal investigation techniques, which helped us improve our abilities in handling cases during investigations.”

”I toast to you, all our brothers in Guangning drink it all, Director Hou and Mr. Jiang, you two just take as you like.”

Soon, everyone raised their glasses and drank together.

However, when Director Hou and Jiang An put down their wine glasses, they were already empty.

Mr. Chen quickly said, ”Director Hou, as I just mentioned, all our brothers in Guangning drink it all to express our gratitude, but you and Mr. Jiang don’t have to go all out like that.”

Director Hou smiled and said, ”Mr. Chen, we all wear police uniforms, even here in Guangling, we can’t differentiate, can we?”

”That’s different, you are provincial leaders, making great contributions to our case investigations, my gratitude can hardly be enough.”

”Mr. Chen, you’re exaggerating, we are all brothers in the same trench.”

”Only by uniting on the path of criminal investigation can we thoroughly capture suspects and culprits.”

Then, Mr. Chen led Director Hou and Jiang An to take a bite of food and said, ”Director Hou, please raise a glass to encourage everyone.”

Director Hou looked around and said, ”Alright, I’ll keep it brief.”

He raised his glass, turned to look at Jiang An, then at Mr. Chen, and said, ”Mr. Chen, in reality, this time Jiang An and I came here to discuss your cold case work together, but in the case investigations, it was mainly Mr. Jiang who played the significant role.”

”Even though I am the team leader, I feel this role isn’t as effective as the deputy leader’s.”

”Although Jiang An is young, his expertise and skill level are far beyond mine.”

Speaking here, he turned to look at Jiang An and said with a smile, ”In Jiangcheng, Jiang An is the top criminal investigation expert, now guiding cases across the province, showcasing his excellent professional skills and agile, meticulous reasoning.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An quickly said, ”Director Hou, your praise is a bit over the top, in Jiangcheng we still have some cases unsolved.”

”Some cases unsolved? You’re being modest, no?”

”I recall before we set off, Jiangcheng’s cold case resolution rate had already reached 100%.”

”Before you became the criminal investigation captain, there indeed were three old unsolved cases hanging around.”

”But after you took over as captain, in less than three months, you quickly solved those three cases.”

”This has become a famous story in our department, and it’s also why our chief strongly supported you in tackling cold cases.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An smiled and said, ”Those cases only had suspects caught, but they haven’t been convicted yet; it’s still not a fully closed case.”

”If the trial finds the murderer isn’t him, my responsibility would grow, and I’d have to return to redo it.”

”That possibility is very small...”

Then, Mr. Chen, Qin Feng, and other officers raised their glasses, looking at Jiang An, saying, ”We drink together in gratitude to Jiang An for broadening our thinking and providing assistance in this cold case resolution attempt, which also broadened my horizons and improved my knowledge as the task force leader.”

Shortly after, everyone drank it all in one go.

Mr. Chen immediately stood up, personally used public chopsticks to pick up two pieces of dry-fried eel and said, ”Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, these eels taste very delicious.”

Soon, Director Hou and Jiang An each picked the crispy-outside-tender-inside eel from their bowls and took a bite.

Director Hou said, ”Indeed, crispy outside and tender inside, the best eel I’ve had.”

Jiang An wiped his mouth and said, ”Indeed, tastes very fresh and delicious.”

Then, they tried some other kinds of eels.

Two minutes passed, Mr. Chen turned around and said, ”Mr. Jiang, in this case, you’ve also brought treasures to Guangling, please raise another glass, let’s drink together.”

Jiang An put down his chopsticks, raised his glass, and said, ”Just now Director Hou and Mr. Chen praised my criminal investigation skills immensely, which made me feel a bit embarrassed.”

”So, when Mr. Chen said the wine in the glass could be sipped optionally, I still drank it all each time, and this time I drank it all too.”

”What I want to say is, regardless of time, our purpose as the police is the same, methods and ways might differ, but the ultimate expectation is identical, solving cases, catching suspects, justice for the deceased.”

”Previously in Jiangcheng, I also grew from an ordinary forensic expert.”

”Criminal investigation expertise is crucial to us.”

”I always believe the first death scene is the most important source of evidence, also the key basis for trace evidence identification and death characterization.”

”Without trace evidence and scene analysis at the first scene, it’s impossible to have the later case analysis process.”

”As Mr. Chen mentioned earlier, despite technological advances like surveillance and mobile phone positioning, in our remote rural areas, urban villages, and some underdeveloped urban areas, surveillance coverage is low, so traditional criminal investigation techniques remain crucial.”

”I never believe a case can bypass the traditional scene investigation and field examination, directly capturing the murderer, unless the killer ran away, with surveillance camera outside the door, with tools in hand or obvious bloodstains.

”Of course, I am continually advancing and learning on this journey.”

”In the future, let’s progress together and strive to promote our criminal investigation spirit on this path, contributing our strengths to social peace and maintaining stability.”

”Well said!” Qin Feng stood up promptly, and everyone stood together.

Soon, eight glasses clinked together, with a clang, then everyone drank it all.

The glasses hadn’t been put down yet when Mr. Qin’s phone suddenly rang.

Instantly, everyone’s expressions changed slightly.

For a detective, the phone can’t be turned off for 24 hours.

When a call suddenly comes at this time, it always brings an ominous feeling.

Qin Feng put down his glass, looked around, and said, ”It’s okay, probably a call from family.”

However, as he took out his phone preparing to go out and answer, his expression slightly changed.

The phone screen showed the number of the Nanshan Police Station director.

He glanced at it and muttered, ”Director Nanshan?”

”I remember that when we came to dinner tonight, we didn’t tell him, could he be coming over to drink with Director Hou and Mr. Jiang?”

Upon saying this, several officers nearby shook their heads, ”No, we didn’t tell anyone at the station when we came.”

”Then that’s strange unless he has second sight?”

He then answered the call, ”Hello, Mr. Chen.”

”Mr. Qin, I’m sorry to disturb you late at night.”

”What seems to be the matter?”

”I’m in your jurisdiction.”

Hearing this, Chen Ming felt a sudden jolt, ”Did you arrive so quickly?”

Upon hearing this, Qin Feng sensed something was up and quickly said, ”Why, is there something wrong?”

”Oh, we found a female corpse in Back Street Town.”

”Back Street Town? We’re having dinner right in Back Street.”

Qin Feng then walked to the window to look down, just as expected, there were several police cars downstairs in front at the 11 o’clock direction.
