The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Stop pretending to be confused in front of me; you own two houses in Zhujiang City.”

”Both are rented to others, you think I don’t know that?”

”So what if I have houses in Zhujiang City?”

”Being a doctor has higher income than you guys. Is it wrong to buy two houses?”

Then, Qin Feng said in a deep voice, ”Buying houses isn’t wrong, but murdering someone in a room is.”

”Murder? How could there be a murder?”

”Officer, you must be joking, right? My house is rented out. Did the tenant die or something?”

”If the tenant died, you wouldn’t be the one we found.”

”Back then, when Li Ailing was alive, she lived in that house, and it was only rented to others later.”

”So, where exactly did Li Ailing go?”

”I don’t know what you’re talking about. My wife died in an accidental fire at the clinic back then. You were the one on site, and today you’ve exhumed her body. How can you suddenly say she’s alive?”

”Isn’t that strange?”

”Strange? I also find it strange.”

”If your wife Li Ailing died in the fire, and your house was bought after the fire, then why does your wife’s blood still appear in the bathroom of your house?”

”Blood in the bathroom? Officer, don’t joke. How could there be my wife’s blood?”

”She already died in the fire, and today you’ve even opened her coffin to take the skull.”

”Isn’t that what you saw with your own eyes?”

”Seen with my own eyes? Do you think cleaning the bathroom would make the blood on the floor invisible?”

”You’ve studied medicine, you’re smart, you must have thoroughly cleaned all the blood off the floors and walls.”

”But I’m telling you, the net of heaven has large meshes but lets nothing through.”

”Do you remember the integrated ceiling panels on your property’s roof?”

Hearing this, Zhang Xiang furrowed his brow.

”Remember now?” Qin Feng slightly tilted his head back, ”You probably cleaned the blood off the ceiling, but don’t forget you only cleaned the surface; some seeped into the gaps.”

”I’m telling you, today we went to Zhujiang City and retrieved the bloodstains from the gaps in the ceiling of your bathroom.”

”Officer, are you bluffing me? I studied medicine, you can’t easily deceive me.”

”Studied medicine? Then you should know about the Luminol reaction, the reagent used by forensic experts in TV dramas to reveal blood traces.”

”I’m telling you, today in the gaps of your bathroom ceiling in Zhujiang, we found the fluorescent reaction of Luminol.”

”Furthermore, based on the distribution of the bloodstains, we deduced that it is very likely to be Li Ailing’s blood.”

Hearing this, Zhang Xiang asked, ”The report? Where’s the report?”

”No report, no evidence, did you think my medical knowledge was learned in vain?”

After a slight pause, Zhang Xiang tilted his head and asked, ”Mr. Qin, my wife has been dead for a long time. Why do you keep holding on to this?”

”And I really don’t understand, when the matter was already settled, why are you bringing it up again?”

Qin Feng said, ”Holding on because there are unresolved issues! The truth hasn’t been uncovered!”

Immediately, a flash of anger appeared on Zhang Xiang’s face, ”If you continue like this, I can tell you clearly, once I’m out, I’ll hire the best lawyers in the country and take you and the police department to court, make you take off your uniform, and compensate me for emotional damages!”

”Haha, quite the bold claim,” Qin Feng laughed, ”Even if you had this ability, even if there were ten Zhang Xiangs, you wouldn’t have this ability.”

”If you confess, given our past cooperation at the police station, I might consider your honesty.”

”However, if you persist in your ways, we can still, without a confession, take you to court to face legal judgment.”

”Legal? Judgment? Without evidence, I think there’s no need to discuss further.”

Speaking, he glanced at the clock on the wall, ”Now there’s less than 20 minutes until my release.”

”If there’s no evidence in 20 minutes, I’m leaving!”

”Leave? Wishful thinking!”

”Let’s go over the incident of the fire back then; Li Ailing purchased a life insurance policy for 300,000 yuan; do you recall this?”

”I recall. So what? What’s wrong with buying insurance?”

”Why didn’t you tell us this during the investigation back then?”

”Not worth mentioning, it has no bearing on the case.”

”Of course it does!” Qin Feng said, ”We now have reason to suspect that back then, you colluded with your wife Li Ailing and a third unrelated person to commit murder, dismember the body, and then staged a fire.”

”Afterward, you and your wife Li Ailing defrauded the insurance company, covered up Li Ailing’s continued existence, and then bought a house in Zhujiang City where she lived.”

”Later, because of a conflict, you killed Li Ailing and put her remains back into the coffin.”

Finally, Qin Feng enunciated clearly, ”So, do you think I’m right?”

Hearing this, Zhang Xiang fell silent for a moment across from him.

He stared straight ahead, then after two seconds, let out a sneering laugh, ”Wonderful, truly wonderful.”

”If this happened in a movie scene, I’d believe it.”

”But for me, I don’t believe it, because I’m the victim.”

”Looking back now, I’d rather not have that 300,000 than see my wife Li Ailing die tragically.”

”You’re such a good man, so sincere about love.”

”Back then, when you dismembered your wife Li Ailing, did you not feel a twinge in your conscience?”

...

At that moment, several people standing outside the one-way glass of the interrogation room had their brows deeply furrowed.

Chen Guan said in a deep voice, ”It seems Zhang Xiang won’t give up until all hope is gone.”

Director Hou also said, ”From how meticulously he set up this case, his current behavior doesn’t seem unusual.”

”But time is running out for us. If such a cunning person is released, and we have to bring him back, it will undoubtedly be incredibly challenging.”

At this moment, both were worried.

Just then, Jiang An suddenly turned and said, ”I’ll go to the forensic lab first.”

Hearing this, Deputy Director Chen Guan was somewhat surprised, ”It’s been less than 40 minutes; results shouldn’t be out yet, right?”

”No matter, I’ll take a look.”

Soon, Jiang An arrived at the forensic lab.

At that moment, the young officer was working overtime.

Seeing Jiang An enter, he quickly said, ”Mr. Jiang! We’ve only completed half of the results, still half to go.”

Jiang An nodded, glanced at the nearby computer, ”Let me borrow the computer, you continue the experiment.”

”Sure, use it as you wish.”

Soon, Jiang An went to the computer, opened a forensic report template.

After thinking for a moment, he quickly tapped on the keyboard.

He modified the examination time, request number, brief case details, requester, and experiment contents—all except the spectra were changed.

Five minutes later, he turned and said, ”I’ll also use your forensic report stamp.”

”Huh? But... our report isn’t completed, how can we use the stamp?”

”No worries, it’s done.”

With that, Jiang An immediately handed over the report.

Seeing this, the young officer was amazed, ”Mr. Jiang, can we really do this?”

Jiang An replied calmly, ”Time is tight; we have to take an unconventional path this time!”

Seeing the hesitation on his face, Jiang An added, ”Do as I say, and I’ll take full responsibility if anything goes wrong.”
