The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Very soon, a few people returned to the office, had some tea, and after a brief rest, they headed downstairs.

To express his gratitude and support, Deputy Director Chen Guan specially arranged a luxury business car this time.

And this time, the chosen dining location is nearly 30 kilometers away from the Public Security Bureau.

Once inside the business car, Chen Guan said, ”Director Hou, the place we are going today is the most famous restaurant in Guangling South District, the Nanshan Local Eel. It’s a very well-known local specialty.”

Upon hearing this, Qin Feng, sitting next to him, chimed in quickly, ”Sometimes I even bring my family along to taste the Nanshan local eel, especially the fiery eel and local yellow eel, which is simply the most delicious dish!”

Upon hearing these words, Director Hou and Jiang An exchanged a glance, then both smiled and said, ”Then today we will join Mr. Chen and Mr. Qin for a good meal and try this new way of eating eel.”

”Exactly, today’s main dish is the local eel. The eel there is tender and delicious, and the preparation is quite unique.”

”Exactly, we’ll talk while eating, although the journey is a bit far, it might take us about forty to fifty minutes by car.”

Jiang An smiled and said, ”Mr. Chen, you’re making Director Hou and I feel a bit embarrassed, going this far just to treat us to some local specialty.”

”Come on,” Chen Guan cheerfully patted Jiang An’s arm and said, ”Mr. Jiang, don’t be so modest.”

”Indeed, handling these two cases in succession has indeed troubled you.”

”Originally, after finishing the last case, you could return to the provincial department, but we insisted on having you guide us through that dismemberment case.”

Thinking back, I still feel a bit uneasy. If it weren’t for your new approach, linking it to that old train case, I’m afraid this case would still be unresolved, possibly turning into a permanent mystery hanging there.”

Qin Feng agreed and said, ”Exactly.”

”The biggest mystery in this case, back then, was the identity of the deceased; it was never found.”

”But thinking back now, even if we identified the deceased as a wandering person, we probably still couldn’t have found the perpetrator.”

”Because in this case, the killer, Zhang Xiang, and his wife had no connection with this wandering girl, akin to indiscriminate murder cases where the perpetrator without any link is the hardest to find.”

Upon hearing this, Director Hou also sighed and said, ”Indeed, such murder cases posed quite a problem during the reopening investigation of those previous six homicide cases.”

”But now it’s all in the past.”

Speaking of which, he turned to look at Jiang An and said, ”Mainly because Mr. Jiang was not involved in the initial investigation of those six cases.”

”If Mr. Jiang had been involved in this case earlier, I think we wouldn’t have spent so much time on it.”

Upon these words, Chen Guan and Qin Feng both nodded promptly and said, ”Exactly! Director Hou, you’re right, it’s mainly because Mr. Jiang wasn’t involved earlier. If he had been, this case might have been solved much sooner.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An smiled and said, ”With such high praise, I might need to drink a few more glasses tonight.”

Chen Guan quickly added, ”That’s right, you must drink more cups; today, Mr. Qin, you must play your role well and accompany Mr. Jiang so that the next time we encounter a difficult case, we can again seek Mr. Jiang’s guidance!”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An quickly waved his hand and said, ”I hope there are no thieves under the heavens, and all is peaceful, and no bloody murder cases occur again!”

......

Throughout the journey, everyone chatted and laughed. Although the distance was over 30 kilometers, time passed quickly.

At 7:20 p.m., Mr. Chen, Qin Feng, Jiang An, and several other key members of the criminal investigation team came to have dinner together.

Jiang An and Director Hou sat in the main seats, with Mr. Chen and Qin Feng accompanying them on either side.

Mr. Chen said, ”Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, I’ll keep it brief and won’t say more about gratitude.”

”Since Director Hou and Mr. Jiang came to guide our cases in Guangling, they have truly helped our Guangling City Criminal Investigation Team understand what real criminal investigation techniques are.

”When I first joined the criminal investigation team, solving cases was all about these three methods: thorough field visits and questioning, intense interrogation and breakthrough, along with traditional scene investigation.”

”But after researching these two difficult cases, I realized my understanding of these three methods was a bit superficial, especially the scene investigation techniques and forensic autopsy techniques. I never expected these technical support elements to have such a significant impact on solving cases?”

After a slight pause, he continued, ”With the fast development of surveillance video technology, mobile phone positioning, base station information, and the internet technology over the years, we have gradually overlooked traditional criminal investigation techniques.”

”Yet through these two cases, I suddenly realize traditional techniques still hold great importance. Sometimes during case investigations, particularly when there is no surveillance, and the suspect hasn’t used a phone to commit the crime, these traditional techniques of thorough investigation could, in one sense, lead the entire process of case investigation.”

”Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, on behalf of all criminal investigation officers, I express our gratitude to you; thank you for your significant contribution in tackling these accumulated homicide cases.”
