The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Just as he came up, the elderly man with gray hair walked up and said, ”Officer, I just heard Zhang Xiang say he wants to exhume my daughter’s grave. Is that true?”

The man’s tone was very serious as he spoke, and he looked like someone who has endured a lot in society.

Qin Feng quickly stepped forward, pulled out a cigarette, and handed it over.

However, just as the cigarette came out of the box, the elderly man waved his hand: ”I don’t need a cigarette, I just want the results now. Is it true?”

Jiang An’s gaze was unwavering as he nodded and said, ”It is.”

”Our examination is necessary for the investigation, and I hope you can understand.”

”Understand? How to understand? Years ago, my daughter died tragically while safeguarding the clinic’s medicine here.”

”It took us, the old couple, many years to heal the wounds in our hearts, and now you want to dig up her grave again. What is your intention?”

”The key is my son-in-law Zhang Xiang has remained unmarried all his life. You tell me, how could you be so heartless?”

Qin Feng stepped forward and said, ”Uncle, please understand that we police have a basis for our investigations and would absolutely not exhume a grave without cause.”

”Basis? What basis?”

”Is it possible that any grave within a few kilometers, just a word from you for investigation needs, can have their ancestors’ graves exhumed?”

As he spoke, he gestured towards the grave beside them.

But just as he finished speaking, Jiang An spoke up, ”There is a basis. I suspect that the person lying in this coffin is not your daughter.”

”Nonsense, it’s simply absurd. If it’s not my daughter, then who is it?”

Jiang An continued, ”We are investigating a fifteen-year-old murder, dismemberment, and body disposal case, and the missing parts of that body match precisely with the skeleton found at the fire scene years ago.”

Upon hearing this sentence, the elderly man was momentarily stunned: ”What does that mean?”

Jiang An analyzed, ”What does it mean?”

”There are two possibilities.”

”One is that the bones found at the fire scene are very likely from that unknown body.”

”Your daughter’s skeleton being incomplete is not because of fire damage to another part, but that part is very likely still on the cliff.”

”We want to confirm if the bones found on that cliff are your daughter’s bones through exhuming and examining the body.”

The elderly man coughed twice and said, ”Absurd, simply preposterous.”

Then, Jiang An continued his analysis, ”Another possibility is that the body lying in this coffin is not your daughter, but someone else, and your daughter might even still be alive.”

”So, in order to clear up this matter, we must exhume and examine the body today.”

Upon hearing this, the elderly white-haired woman standing not far away suddenly stepped forward.

She took Jiang An’s hand and said, ”Officer, did you just say there is a possibility my daughter is still alive?”

”Really? Is this true?”

As soon as these words came out, Zhang Xiang immediately intervened and said, ”Mom, don’t believe him, it’s nonsense. How could it be? You both knew the situation back then.”

The elderly man said as well, ”Exactly! Don’t listen to his nonsense, he’s making up an excuse to open our daughter’s grave.”

Jiang An said firmly, ”Only by opening the grave can we uncover the truth.”

”If the body inside is your daughter’s skeleton, and the DNA matches the DNA we found in the canyon, it clearly indicates your daughter’s death was not merely an accident, but murder.”

”If the skeleton inside is not your daughter’s, then your daughter might still exist in the world, or even be alive.”

After hearing Jiang An’s further analysis, the elderly couple exchanged glances.

In the exchange of glances, the elderly woman said quickly, ”Old man! I think this young man seems very kind and capable.”

”He mentioned two possibilities; shouldn’t we consider them?”

”If what he said turns out to be true, it would clear our lingering doubts.”

After thinking for a while, the elderly man turned to look at Jiang An and then said, ”You mean to say, with current examination techniques, you can determine if she’s my daughter?”

”Absolutely, once we can collect your blood samples, we can compare them to determine if the skeleton inside is your daughter’s.”

”Moreover, we can also determine if this skeleton is related to the other body parts we found in the canyon.”

As the elderly couple hesitated, Zhang Xiang suddenly stepped forward and said quickly, ”Dad, Mom, look, Ai Ling has been lying in the tomb for fifteen years. Wouldn’t digging her up again be bad luck?”

”And I’ve always had deep feelings for Ai Ling. I’ve remained single all these years, and I can’t bear to see her grave disturbed again.”

Upon hearing these words, the elderly couple was already in tears, their eyes fixed on the grave.

The elderly woman said, ”Our poor daughter, she left us so young, we don’t want her to be disturbed again.”

After a long pause, she turned to make a decision, ”We shouldn’t exhume. We really don’t want her to be disturbed again.”

Upon hearing these words, Jiang An and Qin Feng exchanged glances.

Two minutes later, Jiang An said, ”Uncle, Aunt, I am a forensic doctor, speaking for the deceased.”

”I’ve worked for so long, always feeling some things are destined by fate.”

”I am the captain of the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team. I came here for the investigation, and initially, the fifteen-year-old case wasn’t the target, but I touched it by destiny.”

”Moreover, I suspect the fifteen-year-old case is related to the dismemberment case we found in the canyon and your daughter’s fire case at the clinic.”

”Therefore, I believe it’s not merely a coincidence, but very likely related.”

”Please trust our intuition. If after the examination, we will restore your daughter’s grave exactly as it was.”

After hearing Jiang An’s firm statement, the elderly couple hesitated again.

After a while, they nodded simultaneously and said, ”Alright, I’ll agree with you, this will also clear the doubts in our hearts.”

The elderly woman said, ”We never found her legs and hands back then; we both still had doubts.”

Once they agreed, Qin Feng immediately arranged for the nearby police station to bring shovels and tools to start digging the grave.

The excavation process was relatively uncomplicated, with the police officers and the couple totaling more than ten people, they quickly uncovered the tomb’s coffin.

After being sealed for many years, the coffin now looked much more decayed.

Jiang An clapped his hands and said, ”We now see the coffin, but we need to open its lid.”

Qin Feng said, ”Exactly, we need to use a crowbar. Are you prepared?”

The police station manager quickly said, ”No, I’ll borrow one from a nearby construction site immediately.”

”Alright, we’ll wait for you.”

After finishing this, Qin Feng immediately picked up the phone and dialed the technical room: ”Bring some specimen bags, dissecting clothes, and examination tools over quickly, we’re about to start the exhumation examination.”
