The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

As he spoke, he looked up at the pitch-black mountain beside him, ”If it weren’t for the police dog’s keen sense of smell, even if we sent everyone up the mountain to search, we might not have been able to pinpoint him.”

As he spoke, several people simultaneously turned their gaze towards Zhang Xiang, who was being controlled by the special police.

Chen Guan glanced at Qin Feng beside him and asked, ”Is it him?”

Qin Feng and Jiang An both nodded: ”It’s him!”

At this moment, Zhang Xiang’s eyes slightly drooped, and he quickly looked at these people and said, ”Why, why are you arresting me?”

”And let me tell you, your police dog already bit me, if I end up getting rabies later, you won’t be able to handle it!”

As soon as his words fell, Wang Fei quickly said, ”Don’t worry, the police dogs are vaccinated annually, rabies vaccines are specially allocated by Mr. Chen from the health budget.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Guan chuckled. He knew this was a way of acknowledging that every penny he allocated had been wisely spent.

Chen Guan continued, ”Our police dogs receive regular vaccinations. And I see you have a bleeding bite wound on your leg. If necessary, we’ll immediately give you a rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin when we get back.”

”But, you need to clarify your own matters!”

”What matters do I have?” Zhang Xiang suddenly became agitated.

”You have no matters, hiding in the mountain late at night?”

He hurriedly said, ”I don’t know what you’re talking about!”

Immediately he lowered his head and stopped talking.

At this moment, Chen Guan turned his head and said, ”Let’s go, take him back to the station!”

On the car ride back, Chen Guan, Director Hou, Jiang An, and Qin Feng sat together.

Chen Guan frequently glanced at Jiang An, admiring him more and more, growing fonder as he looked.

He looked at Jiang An, then at Qin Feng, feeling a strong sense of envy.

Although Qin Feng’s abilities were decent, compared to Jiang An, there was quite a difference.

In terms of meticulousness and case analysis, he was indeed far behind Jiang An.

This case was fortunately led by them; otherwise, it might have been utterly confusing.

Remembering this, he instantly understood the words his professor had once said in school: Criminal investigation requires thinking; even with guns and knives at hand, no weapon is as powerful as professional investigative skills.

Forty minutes later, they escorted Zhang Xiang back to the interrogation room of the criminal investigation team.

At this moment, Qin Feng and another veteran from the criminal investigation team began interrogating Zhang Xiang, while everyone else observed from the observation room, watching the entire situation inside.

Initially, he wanted Jiang An involved, but because Jiang An wasn’t a local staffer, to avoid procedural errors later, Qin Feng specifically arranged another officer to accompany him.

In the interrogation room, Qin Feng looked up and asked, ”Name, age, sex, address, occupation?”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Xiang’s mouth twitched, and he said, ”Mr. Qin, long time no see. We’ve known each other for so many years; is there any need for pretenses?”

”Pretenses? It’s not pretenses, it’s procedure! Please be serious!”

Originally, Qin Feng had a very good impression of Zhang Xiang.

Back when he worked at the police station, he often asked Zhang Xiang for help.

In his impression, Zhang Xiang was a very professional, enthusiastic, and reliable person.

But since the reopening of this case, Qin Feng’s attitude towards Zhang Xiang completely turned around.

Once a very good person, now turned into a prisoner.

Seeing Zhang Xiang, he inwardly lamented: truly, don’t judge a book by its cover.

Although he couldn’t yet fully confirm that the case from years ago was related to Zhang Xiang, his detective intuition told him Zhang Xiang couldn’t escape involvement.

Even if he wasn’t the true culprit, he surely played a part.

Thinking here, Qin Feng felt a burst of anger. He quickly slapped the table and said, ”Zhang Xiang, I advise you to be honest.”

”Everyone makes mistakes, but once a mistake is made, turning back is possible.”

”You are a doctor; if the body is sick, it needs medicine. If a person is sick, they also need correction.”

”Look at the words on the wall beside you, ’Confession leads to leniency, resistance leads to severity.’”

”For you now, the best result is to confess your criminal conduct!”

At this moment, Zhang Xiang lowered his head and was silent for a moment, then spoke, ”Zhang Xiang, 47 years old, doctor at the village clinic.”

”Do you know why we brought you here today?” Qin Feng asked.

Zhang Xiang looked up, ”How would I know? I went hunting tonight, just wanted some game meat.”

”This evening, were you next to your wife Li Ailing’s grave?” Qin Feng pursued.

”Li Ailing’s grave? I’ve never been there!” Zhang Xiang denied.

”Never been there? Acting confused with me! I chased you, but lost you. If it weren’t for the police dogs, you would’ve escaped!” Qin Feng said sternly.

”Officer, you must be mistaken.”

”I’m not grave robbing; how could I go there? Besides, it’s quite ominous to be there late at night.”

Then, Zhang Xiang curiously asked, ”Oh, by the way, Mr. Qin, has the result come out yet?”

”If it has, I’d like to quickly seal her coffin again.”

”Li Ailing and I had a deep relationship; after she passed away, I never remarried. Please understand my feelings!”

”Understand you? Understand my ass!”

For the first time, Qin Feng cursed in the interrogation room, mainly because he was too fed up.

He then vented, ”You’re damn good at fabricating! Do you know? In the end, the one who dies most disgracefully is still you!”

”Me? I have nothing!” Zhang Xiang still feigned innocence.

”Let me tell you, during the fire incident, the person entering the coffin was one person, and today we opened the coffin, it’s another person.”

”Do you think what I’m saying is right?” Qin Feng went straight to the point.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Xiang suddenly frowned, and then asked, ”Officer, what do you mean? I don’t understand what you’re saying?”

”You don’t understand what I’m saying? I ask you, during the fire, was the deceased Li Ailing?” Qin Feng asked.

”Yes, of course!”

”I remember you even came to the scene first, saw the situation clearly; how could it not be her?” Zhang Xiang argued.

”Then why, when we opened the coffin today, the remains were different from those of the deceased back then?” Qin Feng pursued.

”Different? How different? Officer, tell me how they’re different?” Zhang Xiang retorted.

”I’ll tell you the result was different! Today’s coffin remains are Li Ailing, which means the person trapped in the accident back then wasn’t Li Ailing!” Qin Feng loudly said, ”Then who is it? Tell me!”

After hearing this, Zhang Xiang paused for a moment, then opened his mouth, ”I don’t know what you’re saying, I don’t understand, I don’t understand.”

”During the fire incident, exactly which woman died?” Qin Feng said.

.....

At this moment, everyone in the observation room furrowed their brows heavily.

Director Hou took a deep breath and said, ”He could open the coffin later and place Li Ailing’s remains inside, which fully explains one thing—it shows he should have been fully prepared for what might happen today!”

Upon hearing this, Vice Director Chen Guan gently nodded and said, ”Exactly! Later, he covered up the identity mistake from back then using this method, enough to prove this person is highly meticulous, with very strong anti-investigation capabilities.”

”This is another tough case! So many years have passed, and if another set of remains from the coffin years ago cannot be traced now.”

The two of them discussed, shaking their heads helplessly.

Originally, they thought this case could be quickly solved, but now it seems to have become more complex.

At this moment, Jiang An, standing beside, was also quickly contemplating.

He deeply realized the issues they had discussed, knowing Zhang Xiang could open the coffin later, must be ready for a ”do-or-die” situation.
