Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1286: Chapter 1286: The Taste of Yearning

”That remark is quite pleasant to hear!” Qin Jian poured a glass of water and handed it to Tian Niu, ”You came straight to the Northern Military Region. Would your future mother-in-law agree to that? Now, Gu Shuangshuang will have to stay here as well.”

Tian Niu gulped down the water and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, saying, ”She has no choice but to disagree, since I’m already here. Her worrying is useless! Our birth signs are in direct conflict! Whenever we are together, a fight is guaranteed! Shuangshuang doesn’t like her mom’s ways either, so she fully supports my coming back to the Northern Military Region! This way, isn’t it also closer to you guys?”

”Hmm. After we get married, we’ll live in the military region. That’s even closer,” Qin Jian finished and asked Tian Niu, ”When are you getting married? I’m looking forward to your wedding banquet!”

”Soon! At the end of the year! That’s when Shuangshuang’s classes finish, and she goes to the hospital for her internship. That’s when we’ll get married!” Tian Niu was already looking forward to it.

”Great. I’ll be waiting for you!” Qin Jian said.

”But, Commander, you didn’t even drop a hint about your good news! That’s not cool, brother!” Tian Niu complained, ”I heard it from Shuangshuang.”

”Isn’t it enough that you know? Does it matter who told you?”

Tian Niu: ”...”

”Alright, go to the battalion headquarters first! We’ll sit down together when there’s time,” Qin Jian glanced at the time, it was getting late, and he had promised An Hao that he would come home early today to keep her company.

”Commander, are you going out?” Tian Niu noticed him constantly checking his watch and knew he must be rushing for time.

”Yeah,” Qin Jian saw that Tian Niu didn’t seem to be leaving and asked him, ”Is there something else you want to say?”

”Reporting to the Commander! Today is Saturday, and tomorrow’s the weekend! Can I have two days off and return on Monday?” Tian Niu tentatively asked.

”Comrade Tian Niu, do you think it’s appropriate to ask for a leave of absence on your first day at the Northern Military Region?” Qin Jian frowned slightly as he looked at him.

”Commander, it’s just that I haven’t seen Gu Shuangshuang in half a year! You’ve been through it, so you should know the pain of longing!” Tian Niu shamelessly insisted.

”I know the pain of longing. However, I also adhered to the regulations! I never shamelessly made requests to leadership like you! I’m a man of principle!” Qin Jian declared.

Tian Niu knew he was out of luck as soon as he heard this and hung his head, preparing to leave.

Seeing his dejected look, Qin Jian felt a twinge of pity and added, ”Alright! You’re granted leave this time! But you won’t have any days off for the next month. Your punishment is to train hard! You better not embarrass me in this year’s military exercises!”

”You can count on me!” Tian Niu happily agreed.

It must be said that he really was a glutton for punishment. He was always being penalized by Qin Jian yet always willing to stick around him.

Tian Niu was about to leave with his baggage when he heard Qin Jian call out, ”Come back! Walk with me!”

”Where to? Commander, I’m going to find Shuangshuang!” Tian Niu said.

”Follow me! I’m taking you to see Gu Shuangshuang!” After saying that, Qin Jian picked up his military cap from the desk and headed out.

.............

It was already evening, and An Hao stood at the entrance of the sanatorium, waiting for that familiar figure to appear.

”An Hao, you’re practically turning into a widow-waiting statue! Can we please go back and wait? My legs are about to give out!” Gu Shuangshuang, having just finished playing badminton with Lin Qiushu, was sweaty and, after standing so long, felt even more tired and sore.

”If you want to go back, go back. No one is forcing you to stand here!” An Hao said, her eyes fixed on the road.
