Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1264: Chapter 1264: Let Me Be Alone for a While

An Hao smiled faintly, thinking to herself, ”Yes, the day will come! When it does, she would certainly slap Ma Mei in the face with the facts!”

She had been holding onto this grudge for far too long in her heart!

When the time came, she would definitely stand up for herself brilliantly!

At the dining table, Ma Mei couldn’t enjoy her meal.

Zhang Lanxiang was promoted to division commander, Qin Jian to regiment commander—joyous occasions for others.

Yet none of it had anything to do with her family.

With Qin Jian promoted to a full position, her husband, Hen Zhiyuan, was still the deputy regiment commander. Fearing Qin Jian might make things difficult for him in the days to come, even though the division commander had not invited him, he still shamelessly showed up.

Last time, when the warriors in the unit suffered from collective diarrhea, even though it wasn’t directly related to him, Qin Jian’s investigation had cast some suspicion on him.

Hen Zhiyuan, with the suspicion of a petty person, was terrified that once Qin Jian became the regiment commander, he would not have any good days ahead.

Now, as the division commander and Qin Jian were toasting and enjoying each other’s company, their bond seemed to naturally deepen.

In front of Hen Zhiyuan, their greetings were merely superficial, with expressions stiff as can be.

Ma Mei truly didn’t understand why her husband insisted on putting himself through this trouble. Even if he couldn’t be promoted to regiment commander, retiring and returning to civilian life in a couple of years wouldn’t be too bad.

Why on earth was he so stubborn, refusing to consider leaving the military!

Sitting there felt like sitting on hot coals for her, torturously uncomfortable.

The appealing and flavorful dishes tasted like chewing wax in her mouth.

If it weren’t for An Hao’s words, she might have already made an excuse to leave early, instead of enduring the excruciating discomfort and stubbornly staying put.

The meal that lasted over an hour felt like a century for Ma Mei.

Finally, lunch was over, and she couldn’t bear it for a moment longer. Without helping Zhang Lanxiang clean up, she hastily made an excuse and left.

Upon leaving the Zhang Family’s place, she encountered many military spouses greeting her, but she didn’t bother to stop and chat with anyone.

Arriving home, she slammed the door shut, sealing herself off from the world.

Soon after, Hen Zhiyuan got home as well.

Upon entering and seeing Ma Mei lying on the bed with her eyes closed, he thought she was unwell and approached to ask, ”What’s wrong?”

”Nothing, just go out, let me be alone for a while,” Ma Mei’s heart was in turmoil.

”Are you feeling upset internally?” Hen Zhiyuan frowned, ”Even if you’re unwell, you can’t just leave after eating! That’s incredibly rude of you!”

Hearing this, Ma Mei leaped out of bed and roared in irritation, ”Do you care about anything other than your own position? Have you ever thought about me? The patient is about to wake up, and the incident is about to be exposed. Once it comes out, what kind of punishment will we face? Have you ever considered how I will manage the rest of my life?”

Hen Zhiyuan was stunned, looking at Ma Mei. In their many years of marriage, this was the first time she had lost control of her emotions to such an extent.

”What do you want me to do?” After a long time, Hen Zhiyuan asked.

”What can you do for me?” Ma Mei’s mood suddenly became extremely dejected, ”You can’t do anything! So, stop criticizing my manners or why I left so early! Just let me have some peace! Go away!”

Hen Zhiyuan wanted to console Ma Mei with a few more words, but he knew his consolation would change nothing.

So, he simply turned around and left, granting her wish to be left alone.
