God's Imitator

Thinking of this, He Xiaojun felt very defeated.

At first, he thought the opponent was similar to himself, probably not a very strong player either, and playing normally wouldn’t open up too big a gap.

But now it seemed the opponent was pretending.

It seemed like he was the only player who was this bad...

The two consecutive losses were actually somewhat unjust. The tricks behind them weren’t complicated. If he had realized something was wrong earlier and thought for a few more minutes, perhaps the results would have been different.

But the cruel aspect of the Gallery’s rules lay precisely in this: being just a bit off often meant a world of difference.

”Calm down!

”Calm down...

”The urgent task now is not to be affected by the previous losses. I need to seize the time to think about strategies for later.

”Think about the ’Fool’s Game,’ think about strategies more suitable for myself...”If I’m the ’Thief’ side, directly closing my eyes and randomly selecting 10 boxes might actually be the best method for a novice like me.

”If I’m the ’Sage’ side, it’s more troublesome. I need to exchange two different denominations of Wealth Vouchers to ensure each box’s weight has no clear connection to its value, preventing the ’Thief’ from guessing the specific value through weight or patterns...

”The strategy of ’hiding two large boxes’ is only useful for the first one or two times. Once the opponent knows about this strategy in advance, it could also bring huge losses to the ’Sage’ player.

”So I definitely can’t use this strategy anymore. After all, by the time I become ’Sage’ next time, most players should already know about this strategy, right?

”However, up to now, both sides’ defensive strategies are very clear. So can this game still be played going forward?

”By then, the ’Sage’ side will defend well, and the ’Thief’ side will completely randomly take ten boxes. The role of strategy will be weakened, the factor of luck will be amplified, and it will be hard for both sides to create a gap.”

While thinking, He Xiaojun looked toward the screens.

Many game rooms were playing games simultaneously, which made him somewhat dazzled, not knowing which one to watch.

Just then, the player wearing the reversed ’Hermit’ costume came to one of the screens and initiated a vote.

Other spectators raised their agreement cards one after another. He Xiaojun was stunned for a moment. He still hadn’t quite adapted to this card-raising communication method. By the time he raised his card, it had already automatically started playing sound because more than half had agreed.

Everyone looked toward the screen.

...

In the room, the reversed ’Hanged Man’ served as ’Thief,’ while the upright ’Wheel of Fortune’ served as ’Sage.’

At this point, the field had been set up, and both sides were about to start the game.

The reason reversed ’Hermit’ chose to listen to this room’s sound was because below each screen displayed the current room’s ’Sage’s’ unique rules.

And this room was the first to show ’Special Rules.’

Up to now, most players serving as ’Sage’ hadn’t been able to come up with their own unique rules.

After all, just understanding the original rules and trying as much as possible not to violate them when placing Wealth Vouchers already required full effort for many players. They had no energy left to consider new rules.

But obviously, the overall level of players in this game was relatively high.

Because there were many freely participating players in the game rules, the strong players from the four Core Communities should have all come to the game. There was always no shortage of people who could understand and apply the rules at the fastest speed.

’↓Hanged Man’ was also seriously reading this new rule.

[All boxes are filled with 1000 denomination Wealth Vouchers. Only one box has one Wealth Voucher replaced with 100 denomination. This box’s number is considered the ’special number.’]

[’Thief’ can randomly guess a box number. The Sage will clearly tell whether this number is larger or smaller than the special number until guessed correctly.]

[If the special number is guessed on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, or 8th attempt, the ’Thief’ can steal the Wealth Vouchers from all boxes; otherwise, the ’Sage’ will retain the Wealth Vouchers from all boxes.]

After reading this rule, He Xiaojun was reminded of a certain mini-game he had played before.

”Isn’t this just ’Number Bomb’?”

So-called Number Bomb was where a group of people took turns guessing a number. For example, if the range was 1 to 100 and the ’bomb number’ was 67, the first person guessed 50. If they didn’t guess it, the host would narrow the range to ’50 to 100,’ until some unlucky person guessed the number 67 and would suffer a punishment like drinking.

This game was very simple and didn’t have much strategy in itself. It was more about luck.

And in this game room, the player ’↑Wheel of Fortune’ had transformed it into a single-player game.

The ’Thief’ player kept guessing until they guessed correctly, but there were requirements for the specific number of attempts.

If guessed on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, or 8th attempt, it was considered success; if guessed on the 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th or more attempts, it was considered failure.

The winning side took everything, and the losing side got nothing.

Moreover, the rules had already clearly stated that all the wooden boxes here were filled with 1000 denomination Wealth Vouchers, with only one voucher being 100 denomination.

This meant the total amount of Wealth Vouchers was as high as 11 million.

He Xiaojun couldn’t help but swallow, ”Are all these people playing so big...

”If following the first strategy, the ’Thief’ steals 10 and the ’Sage’ retains 12, both sides can accept it.

”But according to the ’Number Bomb’ gameplay, one side takes everything and the other side leaves empty-handed. That’s too ruthless...

”And what if a loophole in the rules is caught?

”You’d be giving yourself away, but players from the same community would suffer...

”However, since this ’Wheel of Fortune’ could come up with an original rule so early, they should be a very strong player, right? I’d like to see how ’Hanged Man’ plans to respond.”

He Xiaojun stared at the screen seriously.

...

’↓Hanged Man’ fell into brief thought.

After the ’Sage’ set their special rules, this rule would replace the ’Thief’s’ original second strategy choice.

In other words, ’↓Hanged Man’ could no longer win the Wealth Vouchers from up to 20 wooden boxes through the method of guessing size.

This was also very reasonable, because after the ’Sage’ formulated their own exclusive strategy, they had already placed the Wealth Vouchers in the boxes, and this placement method might very likely conflict with the original strategy.

For example, the current ’Number Bomb’ gameplay required placing exactly the same Wealth Vouchers in all boxes.

If the ’Thief’ could still use the original second strategy, then this game couldn’t be played.

So the ’Thief’ now only had two choices: either use Strategy 1 to arbitrarily select 10 boxes, or play the game using the special rules formulated by the ’Sage.’

If using Strategy 1, his income was very certain, 5 million Wealth Vouchers.

While the ’Sage’s’ income would be 6 million Wealth Vouchers.

Of course, due to the existence of one 100 denomination Wealth Voucher, one of them would suffer a loss of 900, but this small loss could already be ignored compared to the total amount.

However, if choosing to play according to the ’Sage’s’ rules, then there was a chance to directly win big and obtain the theoretical maximum limit for a single game in this game: 11 million!

The key question was whether this gameplay was worthwhile for the ’Thief.’
