God's Imitator

This result surprised many players.

Yang Yuting organized her thoughts a bit, then said, ”I deeply admire Wu Xiaomei’s behavior as a mother in the game.

”However, I want to say a few words for Chen Ran.

”I’ve been observing Chen Ran. Although I can’t be completely certain yet, I’m inclined to believe that the relationship between this mother and daughter is different from what most people imagine.

”There are six types of exclusive punishments in the game, but only five types of equipment.

”The equipment corresponds to the professions of outer field players. For example, Fu Yujun for Fu Chen, Peng Hong for Peng Xinyuan, they as parents made no mistakes, and their crimes came from their professions.

”This indicates that one player’s crime doesn’t come from a profession, or rather, she is unemployed in reality.

”Chen Ran’s exclusive punishment is ’Surveillance.’ Perhaps many players subconsciously think this symbolizes surveillance in school.

”But I don’t think so.

”If it symbolized school, these desks and chairs should all be exactly the same style. But in reality, the six sets of desks and chairs in the punishment room are all different styles and look more like household furniture.”So Chen Ran’s exclusive punishment symbolizes surveillance within the family.

”Wu Xiaomei also said when serving as ’Sharer’ that when Chen Ran was little, she would always sit quietly at the table, earnestly learning characters, and Wu Xiaomei would watch her, feeling she was the happiest person in the world.

”From Wu Xiaomei’s perspective, this was indeed the case, but what were Chen Ran’s feelings?

”Taking a step back, even if Chen Ran was indeed like this when she was little, what about after she grew up?

”Wu Xiaomei deliberately misled Zhou Guifen into saying ’let children decide their own matters,’ but afterward voted against it.

”Moreover, Wu Xiaomei also said she wanted Chen Ran to grow her hair long, but Chen Ran just wouldn’t. She studied well when she was little, but later somehow, her mind was no longer on studying.

”So the relationship between this mother and daughter is definitely not as harmonious and pleasant as it appears on the surface.

”I won’t doubt Wu Xiaomei’s love for Chen Ran, but this love is obviously very abnormal.

”Besides this, there’s one most important point...”

Yang Yuting paused slightly and continued, ”From all previous ’judgment-type games’ and ’elimination-type games,’ the files of all criminals have direct or indirect connections.

”Sometimes it’s the same case, sometimes similar types of cases, sometimes similar professions or similar crimes within the same type of case.

”So I’m inclined to believe that there are similar connections among the six criminals this time.

”Assuming Wu Xiaomei is a full-time housewife and hasn’t committed any crime professionally, then merely being strict with Chen Ran shouldn’t be enough to involve her in this game.

”I guess Wu Xiaomei actually did more excessive things to Chen Ran, and it’s very likely directly related to the professions of other criminals.

”In other words... Wu Xiaomei once sent Chen Ran to places like ’gaokao factories,’ ’Internet Addiction Treatment Centers,’ and ’electronics factories’ one after another.

”I know this possibility isn’t high, and I might guess wrong.

”But since such a possibility exists, I must speak up.

”Because if this is true but no one dares to say it... that would be very unfair to Chen Ran.

”Besides this, I want to say to Chen Ran: Although I don’t know you, based on your performance in the game, I believe you haven’t done anything wrong.

”Whether you love your mother or not, you are a good daughter.”

Yang Yuting ended her statement, and the lounge became quiet again.

So much so that she had the illusion that time had stopped.

[Spectator 16’s accusation is established.]

[Now, please all spectators conduct a public trial vote to determine ’guilty’ or ’not guilty.’]

Yang Yuting’s feelings were somewhat complicated. Although she would be deducted 30,000 minutes of visa time if the accusation was wrong, deep down she vaguely hoped her guess was incorrect.

Because if she guessed wrong, it would mean Chen Ran hadn’t experienced such a terrible past, which would at least make Yang Yuting feel somewhat better.

The spectators began voting.

The vote count was still uncertain.

According to the game rules, the two outer field players with the most ’guilty’ votes would suffer instant death punishment. Currently, the top two were Peng Hong with 14 votes and Liu Mingxin with 15 votes.

If Wu Xiaomei’s vote count exceeded 14, then she would die and Peng Hong would live. The reverse would mean Peng Hong would die.

As for the case of a tie, the rules didn’t mention it, but based on game rule speculation, Wu Xiaomei would most likely live, since she and Chen Ran performed better in the game.

However, the final voting result surprised Yang Yuting somewhat.

[Voting concluded. Wu Xiaomei received 6 ’guilty’ votes.]

This vote count was much lower than Yang Yuting had imagined.

Logically speaking, there shouldn’t be too many conscience violation votes, because whether Wu Xiaomei died or not didn’t affect the audience’s earnings.

Because the audience’s bets were settled based on ’whether Chen Ran died or not.’

Even if players from the same community cast conscience violation votes to protect Wu Xiaomei, there would be at most 2 votes.

This meant that most spectators genuinely felt Wu Xiaomei was not guilty.

”Why? She very likely sent Chen Ran to Internet Addiction Treatment Centers and electronics factories. Does that still count as not guilty?”

Yang Yuting was very confused, but soon she guessed another possibility.

Because of the composition of the audience.

According to this game’s selection rules, many players over 50 years old entered the game and became spectators.

And in these people’s view, no matter what Wu Xiaomei did, it was all for reasons of love, and this absolutely couldn’t be considered ’guilty.’

Yang Yuting felt somewhat disappointed. She sat dejectedly in her chair, feeling somewhat empty inside.

[The ’public trial’ has ended.]

[Liu Mingxin and Peng Hong will suffer instant death punishment.]

[You each have 30 seconds to make final statements.]

The camera cut to Liu Mingxin. She stared ahead with lifeless eyes, not speaking for a long time.

Finally, she smiled somewhat miserably, ”It’s karma, I suppose.

”But that’s fine. I can finally leave this godforsaken place. I’m going to reunite with my daughter...”

The bracelet pierced her skin, and Liu Mingxin closed her eyes with a bitter smile.

The camera cut to Peng Hong. He looked at the big screen, silent for a long time, as if momentarily unable to think of what to say.

”Son, Dad loves you.

”Live well. Even in this godforsaken place, you must live well.”

Although the contract was called ’live and die together,’ in the game rules, it only stated that when inner field players died, outer field players would also die, but the reverse wasn’t true.

Peng Hong had already confirmed this earlier. He sat down against the wall corner, choosing the most peaceful posture possible to leave.

...

All the surviving players fell into silence.

This long torment was finally coming to an end. Everyone was exhausted.

However, at this moment, the broadcast sounded again.

[The game is about to end. The ’super authority player’ of this game will now be announced.]
