God's Imitator

”So that’s it, I completely understand now!

”’The Magician’ is a fraud. He doesn’t understand tarot cards or divination at all. He was judging entirely through weight!”

Recalling the previous match, He Xiaojun suddenly had an epiphany.

Obviously, ’The Magician’ didn’t know the secret of the wooden boxes at the very beginning. Those words he said were just a test or a bluff.

Afterwards, when he said he was establishing a resonance with spiritual intuition and caressed the wooden boxes in various ways, he was actually searching for any special mechanisms on these wooden boxes.

Clearly, ’The Magician’s’ observational skills were much stronger than He Xiaojun’s. In a very short time, he realized there was a reason these wooden boxes were made in such a unique shape and found the correct posture for lifting the wooden boxes.

That is, pressing both hands on the sides of the wooden box and lifting vertically upward.

If using one hand, it would be very easy to fail, because the wooden box fit snugly in the groove. Once the force on both sides was uneven, it would be stuck tightly by the groove and couldn’t be lifted smoothly.

But with both hands working together, it could be done.

After confirming this point, ’The Magician’ actually only needed to test the weight of all the wooden boxes in the same way to determine which ones contained more Wealth Vouchers. So at the beginning, he spent quite a bit of time testing each wooden box and finally picked out two wooden boxes that felt significantly different in weight.

As for the end, when he said his spiritual intuition was exhausted, that was all performance too.

The real reason was that the remaining wooden boxes contained roughly similar amounts of Wealth Vouchers, and he could no longer feel an obvious difference from the weight, so he chose to use the first strategy to finish.

From his behavior, it really fit the style of ’The Magician’:

The principles behind magic tricks are all very simple, and even when exposed, they can make people feel completely astonished.

What’s important is how to perform and mislead, making the opponent unable to think of it.

If ’The Magician’ had, after discovering the secret of the wooden boxes, openly used the same posture to test all these wooden boxes, then as long as He Xiaojun wasn’t blind, he would have realized the problem.

But ’The Magician’ continued using different gestures to confuse, while also pairing it with different rhetoric and inducement, creating a mysterious, mystical atmosphere.

So He Xiaojun was slow to realize, and even after the game ended, he hadn’t figured out where exactly the problem was.

From the current situation, ’The Emperor’ had obviously also realized this point. This might be because he had served as a ’Spectator’ in the previous round, or perhaps it was by chance.

But no matter what, the fact that ’The Emperor’ specifically exchanged two different denominations of Wealth Vouchers was enough to indicate this.

”But the question is, how can I use this point to gain as much benefit as possible?

”The other party has obviously already realized this, which is why he specifically took two different denominations of Wealth Vouchers.”

Obviously, once one became aware of the ’weight’ factor, ’Sage’ players could take precautions.

They just needed to take two different denominations of Wealth Vouchers.

Taking He Xiaojun’s first attempt as an example, because of the different denominations, ’The Fool’s’ wooden box contained 17,000 Wealth Vouchers with only 17 vouchers, while ’The World’s’ wooden box contained 10,900 Wealth Vouchers. Because they were 100 denomination, there were actually 109 vouchers.

The latter’s weight was significantly greater than the former.

Even if He Xiaojun had long known the secret of the wooden boxes’ weight, he would most likely still guess that ’The World’s’ Wealth Vouchers were worth more than ’The Fool’s,’ in which case he would still guess wrong.

But should he therefore guess that the lighter wooden box was worth more? That didn’t seem right either. What if he selected two wooden boxes of the same denomination, then the heavier wooden box would still be worth more.

As He Xiaojun struggled with this, time passed second by second.

Just then, ’The Emperor’ spoke.

”Stop pondering. There isn’t much time.

”Didn’t you already realize the boxes have different weights? So what are you still considering?

”Either you follow the second strategy and guess a few more boxes, trying to deduce what specific values I used for the ’arithmetic sequence’ to improve accuracy in the latter half; or you use the first strategy and just randomly take a few boxes and leave.

”Thinking about strategy itself also requires cost. For players like us who aren’t that smart, it’s better not to ponder those particularly complex strategies. It’ll only increase difficulty for ourselves, and the return might not even be as good as randomly choosing.”

These words were quite sudden, making He Xiaojun pause.

Then he felt somewhat ashamed.

Right! What the other party said was really all the truth, nothing wrong with it.

He Xiaojun had suddenly realized the secret of the ’wooden boxes’ weight.’ This was a basic strategy in the game, but for him, it wasn’t necessarily a good thing.

For players like ’The Magician,’ their reaction was very fast. The moment they realized this, they could immediately formulate a strategy and execute it with superb acting skills.

But for players like He Xiaojun, who were already slow thinkers and prone to forgetting things when considering problems, thinking about strategy in the game would instead severely compress their game time.

And shortened time often meant reduced benefits.

In other words, the final result might not be as good as not thinking about it.

This was the situation in the previous ’Fool’s Game,’ and this game was the same.

It seemed that the opposing ’↑The Emperor’ and ’↑The Magician’ were two different types of players. When entering earlier, He Xiaojun felt that ’↑The Emperor’ actually didn’t have that much acting ability, giving him a feeling of being more approachable, somewhat like a similar type of player to himself, not having so many schemes.

Now ’↑The Emperor’s’ words of reminder also showed a certain goodwill.

And what he said was obviously the truth.

’↑The Emperor’s’ strategy was to place Wealth Vouchers in these wooden boxes according to an arithmetic sequence, but considering that with the same denomination, the opponent could just pick the heavy ones to guess and, like ’The Magician,’ mindlessly take away more than ten wooden boxes, that would be a huge loss.

So ’↑The Emperor’ took two different denominations of Wealth Vouchers, so weight was no longer directly linked to the wealth inside.

This way, one could actually look at the situation in several more wooden boxes and use the two factors of ’number of Wealth Vouchers’ and ’total value of Wealth Vouchers’ to comprehensively judge what exactly this arithmetic sequence was, then guess the subsequent numbers.

For players who calculated relatively quickly, the further along they went, the higher their guessing accuracy should be.

But He Xiaojun obviously didn’t have that kind of brain. If he calculated wrong, it might cause even greater losses, so it would be better to just take them directly.

Time was running out. He Xiaojun made up his mind, ”For the next nine actions, I’ll choose the first strategy.”

He began randomly selecting wooden boxes and taking out the Wealth Vouchers inside.

Because his luck was quite good, many of the wooden boxes he opened contained 1000 denomination Wealth Vouchers.

As for exactly how much, He Xiaojun couldn’t calculate, but it was definitely more than what ’The Magician’ had taken from him last time. After all, the denomination was also larger this time.

Soon, He Xiaojun had opened nine wooden boxes, and the ten actions were complete.

[In this round, the ’Thief’ stole wealth from a total of 9 wooden boxes, totaling 811,700 Wealth Vouchers.]

[’Sage’ has 1,343,700 Wealth Vouchers remaining.]

[Please both parties leave the game room and wait for the next round to begin.]

Seeing such results, He Xiaojun was stunned again.

He saw ’The Emperor’ stand up from his seat, seemingly no longer having that previous restrained feeling, and turned to leave the game room.
