Journey to Planar World

Fafnir is a dragon from Norse mythology, known for its greed for treasure and the dragon that Sigurd, known as the King of Warriors, son of Sigmund, the first holder of the Devil Sword Gram, and descendant of the Norse god Odin.

Eventually, the Norse gods resurrected Fafnir after years, but there were no signs of greed and hatred from it, so they concluded that Fafnir was not a threat.

After thousands of years in the Middle Ages, Fafnir’s greed and hatred manifested into a different dragon with dark blue-green scales and a glowing crest on its chest. Fafnir terrorized the land that would be known as Germany in modern times. And then, a wandering knight named Siegfried came, wielding the Sword Balmung to slay the Evil Dragon Fafnir and bathe in its blood, thus gaining immunity to weapons.

The most eye-catching thing was the glowing green mark on the dragon’s belly, which looked mysterious and strange. This was the main reason Charlie recognized it as the Evil Dragon Fafnir.

”Damn Gaia! No wonder she was so generous in promising me two compensations. No matter how much reward is offered, it’s meaningless if I can’t receive it.”

Charlie’s mood was gloomy. He felt like he had been tricked by Gaia.

”Charlie, what should we do?” Aishia asks with concern.

”There’s no other choice; I can only fight for my life. Fafnir is an Evil Dragon; it won’t stop even if we surrender the protagonists and heroines.”

The idea of letting Fafnir kill Ichika and the others came to mind, which was immediately vetoed by Charlie. Letting them be killed would be a victory for the Abyssal Devourer.

”Whatever happens, I support your decision.” Aishia says without fear.

If it were an ordinary woman, facing a desperate situation like this, she would leave Charlie without hesitation for her own life.

”Yeah, I’ll leave the task of guarding them to you, Aishia. I’m going first.”

”Even if the whole world is destroyed because of your failure, I won’t blame you, Charlie.”

Charlie’s hand, which is drawing the Sword of Damocles from the ground, trembles slightly as he hears her words.

He may look tough on the surface, but his mind is filled with despair in the face of Fafnir. He’s not afraid of dying; he’s afraid that his death will cause this world to be apocalyptic because his World Source will be plundered by the Abyssal Devourer.

”I have to keep Fafnir away from here; I don’t want them to die because of the battle waves.”

Realizing that Fafnir is getting closer, Charlie knows he doesn’t have much time. So, he slams his foot on the ground, his figure instantly accelerates in the air, leaving behind a loud bang.

*WHOOSH!*

After becoming Level 4, his flying speed reaches Mach 2.

*WHOOSH!*

A sonic boom can be heard as Charlie shoots up into the air and appears above Fafnir. Adding a buff to strengthen the Sword of Damocles, he launches a horizontal downward slash.

*CLANG!*

The Sword of Damocles hits Fafnir’s scales, which are as hard as steel. The loud clang produces a spark of light, but the impact is extraordinary. Fafnir’s large body is hit hard, losing its balance and falling from the sky like a collapsing star.

Fafnir’s massive body slams into the ground with destructive force, creating a large crater that spews pillars of dust and debris into the air.

*WHOOSH!*

Charlie doesn’t waste any time, diving into the smoke to press his advantage, refusing to give Fafnir time to recover.

Inside the thick dust, Fafnir’s roar can be heard, threatening and full of anger.

”GRAAAAAAHHHH!”

Fafnir swings its tail with lightning speed, hitting the ground and producing a powerful vibration.

*SHUA!*

Charlie maneuvers just in time, avoiding the tail attack just inches from his body.

The large tail cuts through the air, sweeping away everything in its path.

’I have to use all my strength at the beginning if I want to win.’ Charlie thinks seriously.

He swings the Sword of Damocles, which is now coated with magic called Aithra Athanatos, which leaves an incurable curse wound.

*CLANG!*

His sword hits Fafnir’s scales, producing sparks that shine brightly in the midst of the dust fog. But the result is far from what was expected. The dragon’s scales are too hard, like diamonds that cannot be penetrated. Only a small scratch is left on the surface, making Charlie frown.

’This is going to be a protracted battle.’ He thinks as he jumps back, avoiding the swing of Fafnir’s large claws.

*BAM!*

”ROOOAAARRR!”

Fafnir roars with increasing anger, swinging its body with tremendous force. Its tail shoots out at high speed, hitting the ground and creating a shockwave that almost knocks Charlie down.

Charlie lands on the ground with one knee. He looks at Fafnir, who stands majestically in front of him, its giant body radiating an oppressive aura.

Fafnir doesn’t give him time to think any longer. The dragon opens its large jaw, and in a flash, the air around it turns hot. Blue-green flames begin to gather in its mouth, forming a swirling stream of energy. Its Noble Phantasm, Nibelheim, is about to be unleashed.

In a blink of an eye, the dragon’s breath is released, launching a blazing stream of fire like a wave of destruction. The blue-green flames emit such extreme heat that the ground they pass through melts into lava, and the air vibrates violently.

*WHOOOOOSHH!!!*

The dragon’s breath shoots straight at Charlie at an unbelievable speed.

”No time to dodge!”

With both hands gripping the Sword of Damocles tightly, Charlie unsheathes it forward to parry.

*CLAAAAANG!!!*

The blue-green flames hit his sword hard. A wave of hot energy spreads, shaking the ground around him and causing a large explosion. The temperature around Charlie rises sharply, as if he’s inside the core of a volcano.

’Damn it, I’m not a masochist!’ Charlie thinks while gritting his teeth, trying to withstand the attack.

His feet, planted on the ground, begin to sink, while the hand gripping the Sword of Damocles begins to feel like it’s burning even though it’s coated with magical essence.

But Nibelheim is no ordinary attack. The fiery breath continues to break through the sword’s protection, forcing Charlie to step back a few steps. Even with the Durandal attribute, the blade of his sword heats up, and small cracks begin to appear on its surface.

*CRACK!*

The cracks get bigger, and Charlie knows he’s at the limit.

’If this continues, I won’t survive.’

Fafnir exerts more power into Nibelheim, making the flames even bigger and more intense. The dragon’s roar echoes, as if asserting its dominance.

”GRRRRAAAAAAAARRRR!!!”

With a final push, the stream of fire finally breaks through Charlie’s defenses. A large explosion occurs, throwing his body into the air.

*BOOOOM!!!*

Charlie is thrown far, his body slamming hard into the ground, creating a small crater around him. His breath comes in gasps, and pain spreads throughout his body. Blood flows from the corner of his lips, showing how severe the impact of the attack was.

His body trembles, and the heat from Nibelheim is still burning his skin even though the flames have died down. But Charlie doesn’t let himself give up.

Quickly, he reaches into his Space-Time Cache, taking out a small bottle of Elixir. Without hesitation, he opens the lid and gulps it down in one gulp. A cold sensation spreads immediately throughout his body, replacing the previous burning sensation that was constricting him.

However, there’s no time to relax. Fafnir raises its large front leg, trying to step on Charlie, as if it wants to crush him into dust.

*BOOM!*

Charlie jumps back quickly, narrowly avoiding the attack. The ground where he was standing is now a large crater, cracks spreading in all directions due to the power of Fafnir’s leg.

”Haah… Haah… That was close.” He says while breathing heavily.

The effects of the Elixir start to work. His wounds close in seconds, and new strength begins to flow through his muscles.

Fafnir notices this change and lets out an angry roar that echoes throughout the area.

”GRAAAARRRR!!!”

Its eyes shine sharply, looking at Charlie with burning hatred. For Fafnir, the other party’s recovery is an insult.
