Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

Just as Zhao Rong and Wang Guihua were embracing, a familiar voice suddenly called out from nearby. ”Brother Zhao Rong, we finally found you! So this is where you were...”

Zhao Rong turned and was surprised to see Lili jumping out of a police car and running toward him.

Seeing Lili approach, Zhao Rong glanced at his watch. He realized they had reached his location in less than five minutes.

”Holy moly,” Zhao Rong said, his eyes widening. ”How did you get here so fast?”

Lili explained awkwardly, ”Brother Zhao Rong, you told me you were in a desolate, godforsaken place in the middle of nowhere... but you’re actually really close to our Women’s University...”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong was stunned. ”No way,” he said, finding it hard to believe. ”But this place feels so remote, unfamiliar, and eerie...”

Lili took out a map and showed it to him, pointing to a large park. ”Look, Brother Zhao Rong, this is the Women’s University. Right next to it is a big park called Old Cadre Park. And that’s where you are right now.”

When Zhao Rong heard that the place where he had rescued Wang Guihua wasn’t some remote wilderness but a park in the middle of the city, a cold sweat beaded on his forehead.

He said awkwardly to Lili, ”I was in such a hurry that I used Instant Teleportation to get here and rescue Wang Guihua... I didn’t get a good look at the location... I can’t believe it’s a park.”

Just then, the police came over. When Zhao Rong saw them approaching, he immediately pointed to the group of bound men on the ground. ”Officer, these people are all Tomb Robbers. I’ve already caught them for you.”

The officer pulled a booklet of suspect sketches from his pocket. After identifying the dozen or so men, he told Zhao Rong, ”These guys are the most cunning, smartest, and hardest-to-catch Tomb Robbers in all of Xijing City. Not only have they illegally excavated and destroyed numerous cultural relics in the area, but they’ve also sold priceless artifacts abroad. This group is guilty of the most heinous crimes. By helping us catch them today, you’ve eliminated a major scourge.”

With that, the officer presented Zhao Rong with a silk banner that read: ”For Heroic Courage — To Zhao Rong.”

As he accepted the banner, Zhao Rong thought, I remember getting a substantial reward whenever I caught a wanted fugitive in Xijing City before. Is it just a banner this time? No cash prize?

Before he could finish the thought, the police chief walked over. Shaking Zhao Rong’s hand, he pulled a bank card from his pocket and handed it to him. ”Young man, you may not know this, but Xijing City posted a bounty of ten million yuan for the capture of these Tomb Robbers.”

Hearing ”ten million,” Zhao Rong’s eyes bulged. ”You mean, by catching these guys, I get the ten-million-yuan bounty?” he asked in disbelief.

The chief nodded and pressed the bank card into Zhao Rong’s hand. ”That’s right. The ten million yuan is all yours.”

Zhao Rong took the bank card and scratched the back of his head, laughing sheepishly. ”Well, since it’s a bounty, I suppose it would be rude not to accept.”

Seeing him take the money, the chief gave him a thumbs-up. ”Young man, you’re really something else. In all my years as a police officer, I don’t think I’ve ever given so many rewards to the same person, one after another. But ever since a young man named Zhao Rong arrived in Xijing City, he’s been cracking major cases, catching all sorts of criminals, and collecting all the bounties our department posts.”

The chief then asked with a flicker of interest, ”Young man, I’m very curious... are you some kind of legendary professional bounty hunter?”

Zhao Rong felt extremely embarrassed. Honestly, ever since coming to Xijing City, he had accidentally stumbled his way into solving major cases and catching high-profile criminals, earning huge sums in bounty money. But he had never intentionally sought any of it out.

He smiled awkwardly at the chief. ”Thank you for the compliment, Chief, but I’m not as amazing as you make me sound.”

After the police led the dozen Tomb Robbers away, Zhao Rong immediately filed a complaint in the Paradise Shopping Cart app about the couriers who were actually criminals. The Paradise Shopping Cart service team accepted his complaint and offered compensation.

A representative from the Paradise Shopping Cart website contacted him via WeChat. ”Sir, my sincere apologies. Our operational failure caused you significant trouble and endangered your personal safety.”

Zhao Rong accepted the apology. ”Next time, please screen your couriers more rigorously. You can’t let criminals pose as deliverymen; it puts your customers’ lives at risk.”

”Sir,” the representative continued, ”to compensate you for your trouble, our company has transferred one million US dollars to your account. Please confirm receipt.”

Before the representative could finish speaking, Zhao Rong’s phone let out a BEEP.

When Zhao Rong heard the website was giving him one million US dollars for emotional distress, he was ecstatic.

”Holy cow,” he exclaimed, overjoyed. ”Are you kidding me? On top of the ten-million-yuan bounty, I just got one million US dollars in compensation? I’m making money way too fast... this is insane!”

He pulled out his phone and opened the notification. Sure enough, a wire transfer for one million US dollars had been deposited into his Swiss bank account.

Having made so much money so unexpectedly, Zhao Rong thought, It looks like my Zhao Rong Foundation can be established soon. Once it’s set up, I’ll get it running and start helping the elderly, the weak, the sick, the disabled, and anyone else who needs it.

When the two beautiful women beside him saw that Zhao Rong had earned ten million yuan and one million US dollars in just a few hours, they looked at him with newfound admiration.

”Brother Zhao Rong, you’re truly incredible,” Lili said, her voice full of respect. ”I doubt there are many people in the world who are as young and successful as you, let alone who can make money so quickly.”

Wang Guihua gave him two thumbs up. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you’re not only chivalrous and charitable, but you’re also an amazing earner. Women all over the world must be fighting to marry a man like you.”

Hearing their praise, Zhao Rong replied humbly, ”I’m not that great, really. It’s all just been good luck.”

With that, Zhao Rong led Lili and Wang Guihua out of Old Cadre Park and toward the nearby Women’s University. However, before he could even reach the university gates, his assistant screeched to a halt beside them in a Ferrari.

The assistant jumped out of the car, saying frantically, ”Brother Zhao Rong, terrible news! The Chairman and the tycoon Wang Xiaopeng were just kidnapped by a group of masked men in front of the Romantic Red Bathhouse!”

When Zhao Rong heard that his employer, the Chairman, and the man who had just rewarded him, Wang Xiaopeng, had been abducted, his face fell. ”What happened? Who would have the audacity to kidnap the two richest men in Xijing City?”

Hearing that her father had been taken, Lili burst into tears. ”Brother Zhao Rong, you have to rescue my father from those criminals! My mother died when I was little... he’s the one who raised me all by himself!”

When Wang Guihua heard that her father, Wang Xiaopeng, had also been captured, she rushed over to Zhao Rong and pleaded, ”Brother Zhao Rong, you have to save my father! I can’t live without him!”

Seeing the two weeping women, Zhao Rong comforted them. ”Don’t be afraid. As long as I’m here, I guarantee I’ll have the Chairman and Wang Xiaopeng back safely within twelve hours.”

With that, he got into the Ferrari and told his assistant to drive to the Romantic Red Bathhouse. He planned to review the surveillance footage and search for any clues about the kidnappers.

When Zhao Rong, his assistant, Lili, and Wang Guihua arrived at the bathhouse, a sniper suddenly appeared on the roof of the tall building across the street and opened fire on them.

The instant the first shot hit the Ferrari, Zhao Rong pinpointed the sniper’s position from the bullet’s trajectory. He immediately grabbed a nearby manhole cover and hurled it toward the distant rooftop.

His assistant, Lili, and Wang Guihua hadn’t yet processed what was happening. Seeing Zhao Rong casually pick up a manhole cover and throw it, they were utterly bewildered.

”Brother Zhao Rong, you’ve always been so proper,” Lili said, confused. ”Why are you suddenly picking a fight with a manhole cover?”

Wang Guihua chimed in, ”Brother Zhao Rong, if you leave that open, a pedestrian could fall in and drown!”

”That manhole cover is iron,” the assistant added, ”but scrap metal prices have been terrible for years. It’s not worth much. Brother Zhao Rong, just pick it up and put it back...”
