Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

When Xue Lianmei and her assistant saw Zhao Rong run toward the drone, they hurried over as well. Watching the drone make the delivery, the assistant said in surprise, ”Damn, online shopping deliveries are way too fast these days...”

Xue Lianmei, who was equally surprised, added, ”It really is super fast. Before, the fastest we could get something we bought online was half a day, or several hours at least. But now, you can place an order and have it delivered right to your doorstep immediately. Technology is truly evolving by leaps and bounds...”

As Zhao Rong got in front of the drone, he was about to reach for the package held beneath it when the drone’s intelligent speaker suddenly said, ”Hello, you have a delivery. May I ask if you are Mr. Zhao Rong?”

Seeing the talking drone before him, Zhao Rong was surprised but quickly replied, ”Hello, sir. I am Zhao Rong, and that package is indeed mine.”

The drone’s speaker continued, ”Then please provide your phone number and present your pickup code.”

After Zhao Rong gave his phone number, he reached for his package again. But before he could grab it, the drone suddenly zipped backward and said, ”Sorry, sir. Please present your pickup code.”

”I only have my phone number, not a pickup code,” Zhao Rong said helplessly.

The drone immediately instructed him, ”After a seller ships your order, you will receive a text message with a pickup code. Please check your phone.”

Reluctantly, Zhao Rong took out his phone. To his surprise, there really was an unread text message. Looking at the screen, he read his pickup code aloud, ”1-1, 1104.”

Upon hearing the code, the drone flew in through the window and landed inside the dormitory. It placed the package on the floor and said, ”Pickup code correct. Here is your package. Please check the exterior for any damage. After confirming everything is correct, please sign to receive the delivery.”

Zhao Rong quickly examined the package and signed for it. ”No problem,” he said, thanking the drone. ”Thank you.”

The drone immediately flew out the window, calling back, ”The customer is king! Thank you for using our service. Remember to give us a five-star rating later!” With that, it flew away.

As Zhao Rong unwrapped the package, marveling at the rapid, high-tech delivery service, the assistant and Xue Lianmei couldn’t help but take out their phones and open the Taobao app.

They thought that in the future, they would also choose drone delivery when shopping online. It was not only impressive and high-tech, but also something to show off...

When Zhao Rong opened the package, a gadget resembling a mini printer appeared before them. The assistant immediately picked it up and inspected it closely. ”Zhao Rong, is this the DNA positioning detector you bought from Taobao?”

Zhao Rong nodded, reminding the assistant to be careful not to drop it. ”Yes, this is the DNA positioning detector I bought from Taobao.”

Xue Lianmei looked at its production date and origin, saying joyfully, ”Wow! It’s 5:04 PM on July 26th right now, and its production date is 4:50 PM today, July 26th. It seems like this device was delivered to us right after it was made. That’s so efficient! And look at this on the back, ’Made in China.’ Domestic goods are really getting stronger, better, and more high-tech.”

With that, Xue Lianmei snatched the DNA positioning detector from the assistant’s hands. Cradling it like a treasure, she asked Zhao Rong, ”Zhao Rong, how does this DNA positioning detector work? How do you locate someone?”

While carefully studying the manual, Zhao Rong explained, ”As long as we can obtain someone’s DNA and place it inside the detector, we can immediately find out where that person is and pinpoint their exact location.”

Hearing how magical the device was, Xue Lianmei said excitedly, ”Zhao Rong, does that mean if we have Miss Lili’s DNA, we can find out where she is?”

Zhao Rong nodded confidently. ”That’s right. As long as we have Miss Lili’s DNA, we can immediately locate her current position and find her.”

The assistant, curious, asked, ”Zhao Rong, Miss Lili and Yu Lan have been kidnapped. How are we supposed to get their DNA?”

Zhao Rong casually picked up a water cup from the table that Lili had used. ”Anything Miss Lili has used will have her DNA left on it.” With that, he placed the cup into the DNA positioning detector.

Hearing how easily DNA could be obtained, the assistant said awkwardly, ”And here I was thinking that to get Miss Lili’s DNA, we’d have to get an egg from inside her body...”

Hearing this, Zhao Rong almost burst out laughing. Xue Lianmei, however, landed a loud slap on the assistant’s face.

”Assistant, are you illiterate? DNA is DNA, and genes are genes! How could you confuse the two?” she scolded. ”Besides, a woman’s egg is precious, and she only produces one a month. It’s not like you men with all your sperm that you can release just by... you know. For a woman to have an egg extracted requires minor surgery at a hospital. The physical toll is immense!”

Listening to Xue Lianmei, the assistant felt he had truly learned something. He quickly apologized, ”Xue Lianmei, I’m sorry. I was being ignorant.”

As they were speaking, the detector suddenly let out a sharp BEEP.

Simultaneously, Zhao Rong took out his phone and downloaded the mobile app for the device. The assistant stared in confusion at the QR code that had appeared on the detector’s display. ”We need a result, so what’s this QR code for?”

Xue Lianmei opened WeChat and aimed her phone’s camera at the screen. ”Idiot, this QR code *is* the answer. Scan it, and you’ll know where Lili and Yu Lan are.”

However, after trying for some time without success, she said dejectedly, ”Zhao Rong, is this DNA positioning detector you bought from Taobao even real? How much did you pay for it? Why can’t my WeChat scan this QR code?”

Before she could finish, Zhao Rong opened the dedicated app on his phone. ”There might be a lot of fakes on Taobao, but when I, Zhao Rong, buy something, I check the buyer reviews, the seller’s reputation, and their business score. This DNA detector has perfect scores and five-star ratings from every customer. The seller’s reputation and score are also exceptionally high. Given those two points, I’m absolutely certain there’s nothing wrong with this device.”

He then scanned the QR code with his phone’s app. The reaction was instant. An AutoNavi map appeared on his screen.

Pointing to the red dot that had appeared on the map, Zhao Rong said to the others, ”Look! Miss Lili and Yu Lan are here.”

When the assistant and Xue Lianmei leaned in to look at the map, they were both stunned.

The assistant said incredulously, ”Zhao Rong, do you think the kidnappers are really that stupid? They took Miss Lili and Yu Lan to the Xijing City market?”

Xue Lianmei was also in disbelief. ”Kidnappers usually take their victims to an abandoned warehouse or some deserted place in the middle of nowhere. How could this detector say that Lili and Yu Lan are in a market?”

”Exactly,” the assistant chimed in. ”Besides, a market is so crowded. How could you possibly hide anyone there?”

As the assistant and Xue Lianmei exchanged doubtful looks, Zhao Rong smiled faintly. ”Haven’t you ever heard the old saying? ’A great recluse hides in the city; a lesser one hides in the wilderness.’”

Hearing this, the assistant had an epiphany. ”You’re right, Zhao Rong! The most dangerous place is actually the safest.”

Xue Lianmei also had a moment of clarity. ”These kidnappers are brilliant. They must have high IQs.”

The assistant’s expression grew serious. ”Zhao Rong, it seems we’re about to face an extremely formidable and intelligent opponent.”

Facing such a formidable foe, Zhao Rong was completely confident. ”Evil can never overcome righteousness. No matter how smart these kidnappers are, they’re no match for the side of justice. I am confident and determined. We will rescue Miss Lili and Yu Lan, and we will catch all these criminals in one fell swoop.”

Pointing to the red dot on the map, he declared, ”There’s no time to lose; lives are at stake. Rescuing them is our top priority. We’re heading out now to the biggest, busiest, most bustling place in the city—the Xijing City market!”

With that, Zhao Rong led the assistant and Xue Lianmei out the door, heading straight for the Xijing City market.
