Peerless Bodyguard of a Stunning Beauty

When the assistant saw that the best friend Huang Xiaojuan was introducing him to was actually a man, he was so shocked he collapsed on the spot. Zhao Rong stepped forward to help him up and offered some comfort.

”Assistant,” Zhao Rong said, ”since you’ve already agreed to date her best friend, you must keep your promise, even if he is a man.”

Supported by Zhao Rong, the assistant staggered to his feet. He looked at the man standing next to Huang Xiaojuan and asked, ”Huang Xiaojuan, weren’t you supposed to introduce me to your best friend? I thought she would be an absolute beauty, but why is he a man? Did you make some kind of mistake?”

Seeing the assistant’s stunned expression, Huang Xiaojuan took a bottle of glucose from her pocket and handed it to him. ”Assistant, drink this first. Replenish your energy and calm your nerves. All of my best friends are men. I’ve never had any female best friends, let alone an absolute beauty.”

Hearing this, the assistant’s knees buckled, and he collapsed to the ground again. ”So you’re saying your best friend, this man right here, has a crush on me?” he asked weakly.

Seeing his feeble state, Huang Xiaojuan pulled a Snickers bar from her pocket and gave it to him. ”Yes, didn’t I just tell you? It’s this one right here, my male best friend, who has fallen for you.”

Drinking the glucose and eating the Snickers, the assistant said tearfully, ”Huang Xiaojuan, you should have made it clear! If I had known your best friend was a man, I definitely wouldn’t have agreed to date him. But now… even though I’m not into men and I regret this, I am a man of my word. Even if it goes against my conscience, I must fulfill my promise.”

Hearing his words, Huang Xiaojuan asked excitedly, ”Assistant, does that mean you agree to go out with my best friend, Li Jiang?”

The assistant nodded, his face a mask of anguish. ”A gentleman’s word is his bond. To prove to everyone that I am a man who keeps his promises, I have decided to enter a romantic relationship with your male best friend, Li Jiang.”

When Li Jiang saw that the assistant he secretly adored was willing to date him, he squealed like a girl and jumped for joy. He then dashed over and snuggled into the assistant’s embrace, cooing, ”Assistant, you really agree to date me? Is this real? I feel like I’m dreaming! Happiness came so suddenly, so fast that I’m completely unprepared…”

With that, Li Jiang planted a kiss on the assistant’s cheek.

As Li Jiang’s lips met his skin, the assistant reflexively picked up a brick from the ground. But just as he was about to bring it down, he suddenly threw it aside, wiping tears from his eyes. ”Although I’m against this in a million ways, I must keep my word. Li Jiang, let’s go on a date.”

Hearing that the assistant, whom he had just met, wanted to take him on a date, Li Jiang got excited all over again and kissed his cheek once more. ”Assistant, from now on, I’ll call you ’darling.’ It just feels better that way.”

But as Li Jiang spoke, the assistant was hit by a wave of overpowering bad breath. He couldn’t help but turn away and retch a few times before offering a gentle reminder. ”Li Jiang, since we’re dating now, may I make a small suggestion?”

”Of course!” Li Jiang nodded eagerly. ”Assistant, whatever suggestions you have, just say it. I will unconditionally follow your every command.”

Pinching his nose, the assistant said, ”Could you brush your teeth in the morning? Do you realize that when you talk to me, the stench from your mouth is enough to kill a man?”

Hearing himself accused of having bad breath, Li Jiang explained embarrassedly, ”My dear Assistant, you’re mistaken! I brush my teeth every morning. I don’t have bad breath, just some cavities.”

The assistant shook his head. ”Cavities, stomach problems, whatever it is, your mouth just stinks. Next time you talk to me, could you please spray some perfume in your mouth or have a mint first?”

His words seemed to wound Li Jiang’s fragile heart. Wiping away tears, Li Jiang sobbed, ”Assistant, I know you despise me! You think I’m ugly and that I lack a woman’s touch…”

At this, the assistant involuntarily picked up the brick again, holding it high. Damn it, how can you lie so blatantly? You don’t just lack a woman’s touch; you aren’t even a woman!

When Li Jiang saw the brick in the assistant’s hand, he immediately began to plead in fear. ”Dear Assistant, what are you doing? We aren’t even married yet! Are you planning on domestic violence already?”

Hearing this, the assistant silently put the brick down, scratching his head in frustration. I must have had eight lifetimes of bad luck to agree to date a man. Am I trying to get myself killed?

Seeing the assistant lower the brick, Li Jiang smiled knowingly and said shyly, ”Dear Assistant, after we get married, you can… do that… to me, if you want. But could we perhaps change the tools from a brick to a belt and candles? Or a massager… that would work, too.”

When the assistant heard Li Jiang talking about marriage and doing… *that*, he instantly drew a dagger from his waist. But as soon as it was out, he shoved it back into its sheath. Clenching his teeth, he stared at Li Jiang and said, ”Li Jiang, please don’t get your hopes up. Let’s just date for a while and see how it goes.”

At his words, Li Jiang began to bounce on the spot, pouting coquettishly. ”Hubby, I’m a woman! Why can’t I dream of a beautiful married life?”

Hearing this, the assistant again reached for his dagger. But he forced himself to stop, saying through gritted teeth, ”Li Jiang, you had better dream less and talk less. I’m afraid I might lose control and make a mistake.”

When Li Jiang heard the assistant say he wanted to ”make a mistake,” he jumped with joy and pulled a condom from his bag. ”My dear Assistant, since you want to make a mistake, then go ahead! Don’t hold back, don’t suppress it!”

When the assistant saw the condom in Li Jiang’s hand, he slapped himself twice across the face. ”I’ve dug my own grave.”

Before he could finish, Li Jiang pulled an ID card from his pocket and asked, ”Assistant, are we staying at the Home Inn or the 7 Days Inn tonight?”

Hearing Li Jiang fantasizing about getting a room together, the assistant screamed, ”Mom, help me!”

With that, he turned and fled for his life.

”Darling, we haven’t even… why are you running?” Li Jiang shouted, chasing furiously after him.

Watching the assistant run with Li Jiang in hot pursuit, Zhao Rong turned to Huang Xiaojuan and explained, ”Xiaojuan, I know your best friend likes my assistant. I’ve done what I could and fulfilled my responsibility. As they say, the master can only lead you to the door; the rest is up to the individual. Whether they make it or not is up to their own destiny.”

Huang Xiaojuan had an awkward expression on her face. ”I’ve known my best friend for so many years, but I’ve never seen him so infatuated with a man. It wasn’t until he met the assistant that he truly experienced his first love. I imagined they would be a perfect match, made in heaven. I even fantasized their life together would be the envy of all, a love preferred even over immortality. I never thought the ending would be so tragic.”

”To each their own,” Zhao Rong consoled her. ”You can’t force matters of the heart. Let the assistant and Li Jiang handle it themselves.”

With that, Zhao Rong made an excuse and started to leave. He hadn’t taken more than a few steps when he heard students shouting for help nearby. He looked toward the sound and saw the assistant lying completely flat on the athletic field, still as a corpse.

Zhao Rong was startled. How strange. The assistant was fine just a moment ago. How did he suddenly collapse on the field? Did someone attack him?

He immediately dashed over. As he approached, he saw several beautiful women gathered around. One was performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, another was doing chest compressions, while a third was shouting, ”Help! Someone’s been hit by a discus!”

Zhao Rong pushed through the crowd for a closer look. The assistant was lying on the ground, his head apparently bleeding profusely. He quickly knelt and checked for a pulse, finding it not only present but also remarkably steady. He then checked the assistant’s breathing and found it to be deep and strong.

Now Zhao Rong was truly puzzled. A person with such a steady pulse and strong breathing should be perfectly healthy. So why was he lying on the ground, covered in blood, with a discus right next to him? Suddenly, Zhao Rong remembered one of the assistant’s bad habits: he loved to play dead. And he wasn’t just any actor; he was incredibly convincing.

Zhao Rong leaned in, touched the ”blood” on the assistant’s forehead, and sniffed it. He instantly determined it wasn’t human blood at all, but chicken blood. He then glanced at the discus on the ground beside him. It didn’t have a single drop of blood or even a scratch on it. Clearly, the discus had never hit the assistant. Zhao Rong concluded with one hundred percent certainty that the assistant was faking it.

Just as Zhao Rong was about to expose the act, his WeChat notification chimed. When he opened his phone, he saw he had received a message from the assistant. Before he could even read it, he noticed the ”dead” assistant’s right hand twitching in his pocket. He was clearly typing.

Zhao Rong hurriedly opened the message. As he read the text, his eyes widened in astonishment. He never expected that the assistant would discover such an earth-shattering secret.

And this secret was the very answer he had been searching for.
