Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 813: Chapter 809: Living with Another Soul

Huo Sining stared wide-eyed in shock, her mouth slightly open. For a moment, her mind was blank, and she couldn’t say a single word.

In that instant, only two words remained in her mind.

Monster!

But facing this strangely shaped creature, Huo Sining felt no fear in her heart, only surprise, confusion, and a hint of inexplicable familiarity.

”If what you’re saying is true, then you mean I could become... like you? This is absurd. I was born in Bashu and grew up in Baiyun Village. I’ve been perfectly normal my whole life. My father was a special forces soldier, and my mother is a woman from Bashu. How could I be one of the merfolk you mentioned?!”

Even with Su Lan’s transformation into a mermaid right before her eyes, Huo Sining still found it unbelievable. Her mind was a chaotic mess, and she couldn’t make sense of the relationships involved.

Su Lan nodded, ”In this, you are not wrong. You were indeed born of a woman from Bashu, but your body carries half the blood of the merfolk.”

Huo Sining was even more confused upon hearing Su Lan’s words.

”What do you mean by ’half the blood of the merfolk’?”

Su Lan frowned deeply. He didn’t know how to explain the background to Huo Sining. To someone who has accepted the deep-rooted concept of genetic inheritance and diploid organisms, the idea of merfolk lineage was indeed a tricky issue for Su Lan.

”Have you noticed any changes in your body this past year?”

Su Lan felt the need to explain things gradually, so he could only guide Huo Sining step by step, ”Have you noticed your facial features have become different than before?”

With Su Lan’s words, Huo Sining froze a bit.

This past year, Huo Sining had indeed noticed these changes. Her features had become more refined and three-dimensional, her contours softer, her skin delicate and snow-white, and she couldn’t tan no matter how much sun she got. She didn’t need makeup; a soak in the bathtub was enough to make her skin brimming with so much collagen it seemed it could be squeezed to drip.

This was why Liu Meiling and Wu Jingyi didn’t recognize her at first glance in the video. Compared to the village tomboy she was a year ago, Huo Sining now appeared completely changed, both in features and aura, making her unrecognizable even to those familiar with her.

These changes didn’t happen overnight, so Xu Lian didn’t suspect much upon seeing Huo Sining either, thinking it was just the transformative growth of a girl becoming a woman, and felt nothing more than shock and jealousy.

Having lived two lives, Huo Sining remembered her past life’s affairs very clearly.

These changes in her features had never appeared in her previous life. Before rebirth, Huo Sining was treated like a maid-slave by the Huo family, working from dawn till dusk, tirelessly, with no time for skincare.

Thus, before her rebirth, her skin was very rough, and by the age of twenty-five, fine crow’s feet had begun to appear at the corners of her eyes.

Huo Sining always thought that the dramatic changes this year were due to the Water-Repelling Pearl’s spiritual energy cleansing her, but now hearing Su Lan’s words, she vaguely guessed there might be another hidden reason.

Seeing Huo Sining’s expression, Su Lan knew she had noticed these changes, and he smiled knowingly:

”Let me put it this way, the merfolk lineage is quite special. Non-purebred merfolk can manifest in two states before their consciousness awakens. Purebred merfolk show the form of merfolk, while non-purebred ones might still appear human.”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining instinctively asked, ”What do you mean by purebred and non-purebred?”

Su Lan’s expression turned slightly unnatural. He glanced at the silent protector nearby, rubbed his nose, and explained, ”Merfolk, well, their reproductive ability is quite low. Hence, many merfolk opt to intermarry with other races after maturing. Humans, with their strong reproductive capabilities, also provide more pleasure in that aspect, leading many merfolk to secretly seek suitable human mates on land after coming of age.”

Huo Sining felt awkward upon hearing this.

”There are very few pureblood merfolk born from merfolk and merfolk unions, but many hybrid half-merfolk from intermarriages. In such cases, the Spiritual Pearl is needed to cleanse the foreign blood in the half-merfolk, purifying their lineage, which then allows their consciousness to awaken, turning them into true merfolk.”

Upon hearing this, Huo Sining vaguely understood, ”So, you’re saying the changes I’ve experienced this year are because...”

”Precisely. The Ice Spirit Bead recognizing you as its master led it to reject your human bloodline, slowly consuming your human genes to transform you into a pure merfolk.”

Huo Sining stood rooted to the spot. Places in her mind that had been unclear now suddenly made sense, as if dowsed with enlightening wisdom.

No wonder, after using spiritual energy to cleanse Heitan and even the angelfish, these creatures changed from hybrids to first-generation purebreds. It all stemmed from this reason.

Huo Sining was enlightened, but still had two unresolved doubts: ”If what you say is true, that I’m the child of a merfolk and a human, how then do I become your sister? Also, if I’m a merfolk’s descendant, does that mean my father is also a merfolk?!”

Su Lan knew Huo Sining would ask this. He rubbed his forehead and sighed, saying,

”Answering your first question is complicated, as even I don’t fully understand it. All I know is that my sister was captured by either that old Daoist or that old monk and had her consciousness sealed in the Ice Spirit Bead, forcefully preventing her transformation.”

”Through some twist of fate, you became the master of the Ice Spirit Bead, and my sister’s consciousness entered your body. I sensed her presence in the high seas, which is why I followed that feeling to find you.”

”Although her consciousness remains sealed, I believe it will be unlocked one day. The Ice Spirit Bead has already acknowledged you as its master, so she can no longer leave your body. When her consciousness is freed, your souls will merge.”

”So, you are my sister, understand?”

Su Lan’s words, though spoken with a smile, startled Huo Sining greatly.

What did Su Lan mean? Sealed consciousness of his sister?! Did it mean her body housed another soul?
