Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 804: Chapter 800 Concealment from Others

”Miss, are you telling the truth? Do you really want to spend fifty thousand dollars to buy this item from me? You’re not deceiving me?”

The Old Granny heard Huo Sining say she wanted to buy her cylindrical lacquerware, and looked at the young girl, about eighteen or nineteen years old. She wanted to believe her but found it hard to.

You couldn’t really blame the Old Granny for not believing. Huo Sining looked like a student, yet talked about fifty thousand dollars as if it were five dollars, so casually. The Old Granny had never seen kids from ordinary families who could just throw around tens of thousands of dollars. Thus, she felt Huo Sining’s words were too easy, making her uneasy.

”Old Granny, I’m definitely serious. To be honest, I can see that your lacquerware might be an antique, but I haven’t figured out the exact specifics yet. Still, I’m sure it’s worth fifty thousand dollars. If you don’t want to sell it, you can keep it and find an antique expert to have a look. It might even be worth more.”

Since she was doing business with the Old Granny, Huo Sining didn’t play any tricks and spoke frankly.

Before coming to Zhouzhuang, the Old Granny had decided to sell the Blue and White Porcelain with Red Glaze in her box. Unaware of its value, she thought the porcelain was an antique and planned to sell it for two or three thousand dollars to help her son with his surgery fees.

The Old Granny had it all figured out. If the antique stores tried to lower the price, she wouldn’t sell the porcelain for less than one thousand dollars. But after visiting a few stores and being met with rejection, the store owners seeing the porcelain and turning her away with long faces, her hope began to fade.

After repeated rejections, the light in her eyes gradually dimmed. Looking at the wooden box containing the porcelain, she almost burst into tears.

Just when the Old Granny was about to leave in disappointment, an unexpected turn of events occurred. A young girl stopped her, wanting to see her item. Not the porcelain she thought was valuable, but the ugly lacquerware at the bottom of the box caught her eye.

The Old Granny didn’t think the lacquerware was valuable; she had planned to give it away as a bonus if she sold the porcelain. But now, the young girl offered fifty thousand dollars to buy it.

An unknown cylindrical lacquerware fetching fifty thousand dollars—how could the Old Granny refuse? Delighted, she promptly agreed. As for Huo Sining’s mention of an antique expert, the Old Granny didn’t pay it any mind. If she knew any antique experts, she would have gone to them long ago instead of trying to pawn things here. Holding fifty thousand dollars in her hands felt much more reassuring.

The Old Granny didn’t really believe Huo Sining. What could a young girl possibly know? The cylinder and the porcelain plate came together, and even the beautiful porcelain plate was fake. How could the cylinder be an antique?

With this thinking, the Old Granny couldn’t wait to sell the cylinder. Seeing the Old Granny’s insistence, Huo Sining didn’t argue further and took her to the nearby ATM to withdraw fifty thousand dollars and handed the money to the Old Granny.

Paying fifty thousand dollars for an unknown carved red lacquerware, Huo Sining’s expression remained calm. Beside her, Gu Xu watched Huo Sining’s actions with a loving and indulgent look, not interrupting, but occasionally showing curiosity and interest in his eyes.

It turned out his wife frequently hunted for these hidden treasures. He wondered what oddity she had found this time.

Seeing the gleam in Huo Sining’s eyes, like a fox that had scored a deal, Gu Xu felt she must have discovered something special.

After receiving the money, the Old Granny carefully counted it several times. Only after confirming she had indeed received fifty thousand dollars did she feel at ease, handing the box to Huo Sining, clutching the money tightly, and hurriedly left the ATM, quickly disappearing into the crowd.

Seeing the Old Granny leave in such a hurry, as if afraid of her changing her mind, Huo Sining found it both funny and exasperating and couldn’t help but shake her head.

The two of them wandered around Zhouzhuang for a while longer. Huo Sining, preoccupied with the lacquerware, gradually became distracted. Gu Xu noticed and thoughtfully suggested, ”Shall we head back? I can take a look at what treasure you’ve picked up this time.”

Hearing Gu Xu’s words, Huo Sining immediately perked up, looking at Gu Xu with bright eyes, nodding, ”Sure!”

Back at their hotel, Huo Sining eagerly took out the lacquerware she had acquired.

In fact, earlier when Huo Sining examined the lacquerware, she felt something was off.

Recently in the Imperial Capital, following Zhou Shitao, she had learned some knowledge about lacquerware, including carved red lacquerware.

To understand the crafting process, Huo Sining had spent three thousand dollars to buy a large piece of carved red lacquerware from the late Qing Dynasty to learn aging and carving techniques from Zhou Shitao.

So the carved red lacquerware didn’t feel unfamiliar to her.

But when she first saw this lacquerware, she immediately sensed something peculiar.

Carved red lacquer techniques matured during the Song and Yuan Dynasties and developed further in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Judging by the aging of the lacquer and the carving skill, this piece seemed to be from the Ming and Qing eras. However, what puzzled Huo Sining was that while the lacquering quality was very high, the carving was notably rough, even crude.

This puzzled Huo Sining. If the creator valued the piece so highly to use such excellent lacquering, why skimp on the carving?

Huo Sining had a hunch that the lacquerware exuded purple aura not because of the outer lacquer but because the lacquerware was hiding its true form.

The original owner likely created the lacquerware to safeguard something valuable. The high lacquering level was for protection, while the modest carving was to avoid drawing attention.

In other words, the real treasure wasn’t the lacquerware itself but something hidden within a thick lacquer layer!

Understanding this, Huo Sining was eager to return to the hotel and uncover the hidden treasure within the carved red lacquerware.
