The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Ruan Chengqian saw her attitude soften and secretly breathed a sigh of relief. While quickly observing the surroundings, he said, ”We all know Ruan Hai has done many heinous things, but he likes to keep a trick up his sleeve when doing things, so we don’t have any evidence. If possible, I hope you can find evidence of his wrongdoing.”

Evidence? Ms. Lou’s mind was a bit muddled, ”But, but I...”

Ruan Chengqian suddenly started walking forward, ”Someone’s coming, I can’t say much more. This is a one-time chance, I hope you can think it over quickly. If you’ve made up your mind, come find me at my house...” Pausing, he thought it might not be appropriate, ”You might find it more convenient to return to your mother’s home, and at that time you can find Ruan Libao behind the two rows, and have him come find me.”

Since getting married, Ms. Lou had seldom interacted with the villagers; if she wasn’t working in the fields by the river, she was working at home, mostly just visiting her mother’s house.

If she suddenly appeared at their house, it would be too suspicious; not only Ruan Hai but even the neighbors would wonder what’s going on between them.

Ruan Libao and Ruan Chengqian had a good relationship, and he had his own grievances with Ruan Hai. His house was close to the Lou Family’s; it would be possible to let him help pass on the message.

Ms. Lou felt even more chaotic in her heart, wanting to say something, but Ruan Chengqian was already walking forward, raising his voice, ”Where have all the fish gone?”

Just as these words fell, a village woman approached from not far away and scolded him, ”I say, Chengqian, if you’re catching fish, catch fish! Don’t make a mess, okay? Look at the mess you’ve made with this muddy water, how can anyone wash clothes here?”

Seeing Ms. Lou standing there, she assumed Ms. Lou was at a loss due to the muddy water, and went to comfort her, ”You, lass, you’re just too honest. If he muddles up the water, just go ahead and scold him.”

Ruan Chengqian quickly said, ”Don’t scold, don’t scold, I didn’t notice. I thought there was no one by the river at this time. I came chasing fish with my head down, at first I didn’t see her.”

”Then you go over there, we’ll wash things here.”

”Sure, sure.” Ruan Chengqian slowly moved towards the middle with his net.

The woman watched as the water started to get clearer, and finally pulled Ms. Lou down to continue washing. She held a basket, washing freshly picked peanuts downstream from Ms. Lou.

Ms. Lou slowly squatted down, kneading her clothes while restraining her intense heartbeat.

Her hands were trembling a bit, but fortunately, the woman nearby didn’t notice. Ms. Lou quickly steadied her slightly quivering right hand, took a deep breath, and continued washing clothes.

She always kept her head down, never looking at Ruan Chengqian.

Luck was on Ruan Chengqian’s side, he really caught a fish not long after and called out, rushing back home.

At that moment, only his wife, daughter, and the sister-in-law who had finished picking vegetables were at home. Ruan Chengchun was still with Shu Yu looking at the sunflower field and wouldn’t be back for a while.

Ms. Wang hurriedly asked him to change out of his wet clothes, grabbed the fish and started cleaning up swiftly.

By the time dinner was ready, Shu Yu and Ruan Chengchun returned.

Shu Yu was in a decent state, but Ruan Chengchun was sweating profusely. The Zhang Clan handed him a wet handkerchief, surprisedly asking, ”What’s wrong with you?”

Ruan Chengchun let out a breath and shook his head, saying, ”I can’t handle it, the villagers keep asking if they can plant sunflowers, and if they do, can they sell them to Lu’s Workshop. How would I know? Isn’t it just pressure from all their questions?”
