The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Ruan Chengqian was very attentive to Ruan Hai and had particular insight into the affairs of their family.

Ms. Lou was the wife of Ruan Hai’s youngest son, Ruan Kewei. Ruan Kewei was born when Ruan Hai was forty, making him a late child. As a result, both Ruan Hai and his wife, as well as the Ruan family siblings, were extremely indulgent toward Ruan Kewei.

Moreover, with Ruan Hai’s unrivaled status in the village, Ruan Kewei grew up to be playful and heedless of propriety.

When he was fifteen, Ruan Kewei fancied Ms. Lou from the same village and wanted to marry her.

But although the Lou family was not as well-off as the Ruan family, they truly did not think much of Ruan Kewei. Ms. Lou was the daughter cherished dearly by the Lou couple, who naturally wished to find her a reliable and ambitious husband.

Who knew that Ruan Kewei was vile; he gathered a few disreputable friends, purposely ambushed Ms. Lou when she was collecting firewood on the mountain, before appearing heroically to rescue the damsel in distress.

At that time, Ms. Lou didn’t realize they were all in cahoots, only noticing Ruan Kewei bleeding from the fight. Regardless of Ruan Kewei’s character, he couldn’t just leave someone who saved her behind.

Thus, Ruan Kewei pretended to be gravely injured, letting her support him down the mountain. When others passed by, he deliberately threw his entire body onto Ms. Lou, knocking her to the ground. To onlookers, it seemed like there was something between them.

Ms. Lou’s reputation was ruined like that, yet the Lou family couldn’t really blame Ruan Kewei.

After all, he had saved their daughter, and the incident seemed unintentional; it could only be attributed to fate’s tricks.

Afterwards, Ruan Kewei sincerely came to propose to Ms. Lou again, promising he would treat her well, protect her, and cherish her.

The Lou family was still too naive. They had indeed heard some rumors about Ruan Kewei, but seeing is believing, and Ruan Kewei had ultimately risked his life for Ms. Lou—perhaps he had truly changed?

And so, Ms. Lou and Ruan Kewei were married.

Initially, Ruan Kewei genuinely treasured Ms. Lou for a while, but it lasted only half a year; once he lost interest, he resumed his libertine ways, carousing about and not returning home at night.

Ms. Lou once saw him with the same disreputable friends who had blocked her on the mountain, and suddenly realized it was all part of Ruan Kewei’s ploy.

The matter caused quite a stir then; the Lou couple finally saw Ruan Kewei’s true nature and deeply regretted their decision.

However, it was just the beginning; when Ruan Kewei first got married, he treated Ms. Lou well, leading the rest of the Ruan family to be respectful to her. But once conflict arose, with no Ruan Kewei to shield her, the Ruan family immediately turned hostile.

Ms. Lou’s days in the Ruan family became increasingly difficult.

If it was just enduring mockery and doing more chores, it wouldn’t be too big of a deal; rarely can a wife truly have peace of mind. Ms. Lou could bear it and move on.

But a year into marriage, she still wasn’t pregnant. This left Ruan Kewei embarrassed in front of his friends, especially as these friends would joke that Ruan Kewei was inadequate.

No man can tolerate being told he’s incapable, especially one as prideful as Ruan Kewei.

Losing face among friends, he began to pick on Ms. Lou at home.

At first, it was just verbal abuse, but then it escalated to physical violence—he beat her brutally.

The Ruan family initially intervened, considering Ruan Hai’s position as village chief, making such matters hard to let blow up.

But as it happened more frequently, the Ruan family grew indifferent to intervening.
