The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

The location of the Ruan family was quite decent, with a wide road that allowed carriages to reach the door.

At that moment, quite a few people gathered at the Ruan family’s door, including relatives and friends who originally came to help, villagers who came upon hearing the news, and close relatives that Village Chief Ruan summoned for morally coercing Madam Ruan.

In short, people filled the place inside and out, giving Old Lady Ruan quite the respect.

As the carriage stopped, the Ruan family brothers standing at the front immediately started crying with sorrow, ”Big sister, you’re finally back. Mother was always thinking and reminiscing about you before she passed, regretting the things she did to you in the past. She wished to see you one last time, but felt she had no face to do so. She left with dissatisfaction and regret.”

Shu Yu almost laughed out loud in the carriage. She slightly straightened her body.

Ying Xi drew back the curtain, and the crowd looked up to see that there was only one person sitting properly in the large carriage.

A person... they never expected.

The Ruan family brothers gasped sharply and exclaimed, ”Why is it you?”

Shu Yu held Ying Xi’s hand as she got off the carriage, ”Why can’t it be me? I heard my grandmother passed away, and I felt very sad, so I came specially to pay my last respects.”

The crowd, ”...” You? Sad??

Shu Yu pressed a handkerchief to the corner of her eye, ”Truly, very sad. My grandmother left too unexpectedly, and I couldn’t see her one last time. I also feel such dissatisfaction and regret.”

The faces of the Ruan family brothers changed. They still vividly remembered the beating they received back then, and upon seeing her now, they felt severe body aches.

Village Chief Ruan took a deep breath, stepped forward, and forced a smile, asking, ”Lu... county magistrate, what about your mother? Isn’t she coming to send off her mother?”

Shu Yu sighed, ”Of course my mother wanted to come, but upon hearing her mother passed away, she was devastated. She couldn’t sleep or eat since she heard the news the day before yesterday, and today, when she was getting ready to come, she suddenly couldn’t hold on and fainted.”

She continued, pressing the handkerchief to her eye again, ”My mother was too heartbroken to come. My father has to take care of her, my elder sister needs to stay home to take care of her children, and my younger siblings are still too young to understand anything. But my grandmother is being buried tomorrow, and we can’t just not come; fortunately, I’m free, so I came on behalf of my mother to fulfill my duty.”

You free? You’re a county magistrate, overseeing several hundred acres of land, a large workshop, and several shops, and you’re free??

Village Chief Ruan understood instantly; they were afraid Madam Ruan would be bullied if she came.

It seemed their plan to play the sympathy card and threaten Madam Ruan was not going to work, especially with Shu Yu speaking so charmingly. They couldn’t possibly chase her away.

Village Chief Ruan could only laugh awkwardly twice, ”So that’s how it is.”

”Indeed, you wouldn’t mind my coming, would you? Or do I, the county magistrate, not bring enough stature?”

With these words, the faces of Village Chief Ruan and others changed instantly; they wouldn’t dare to respond. Immediately, they said, ”The county magistrate is joking; it is a tremendous honor for the Ruan family that you would come.”

Shu Yu waved her hand, ”That’s not how it should be said; I’m just here to fulfill my duty.”

”Yes, yes, please come inside, county magistrate.”

Shu Yu nodded and turned to call out Ying Xi, ”Please take the incense sticks and paper money I bought.”

”Yes, Miss.” Ying Xi turned to park the carriage securely and then brought down a basket.
