The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Old Lady Ruan has passed away.

This news was brought by one of Madam Ruan’s cousins.

Because the Lu family didn’t have a good impression of Ruan Family Village, besides specific individuals like Xiang who could come and go freely, anyone from Ruan Family Village would be stopped at the entrance.

So, the cousin went to Liufang Alley, to the tailor shop to find Madam Ruan.

After Madam Ruan found out, she couldn’t focus on anything. When she returned home for dinner in the evening, she seemed absent-minded.

Shu Yu glanced at her several times at the dinner table, but she didn’t notice.

She thought about asking Madam Ruan after dinner if something had happened.

Unexpectedly, as soon as they left the table, Madam Ruan went directly to the old lady’s courtyard to find her.

The old lady naturally sensed something was wrong with Madam Ruan and asked her when they returned to the room, ”What’s wrong with you? Is there anything you need me to decide for you?”

It must be said, the person who understands Madam Ruan the most is indeed the old lady.

Madam Ruan doesn’t easily seek her out unless she encounters something difficult to decide, and only then does she act secretive.

Madam Ruan let out a breath and told the news of Old Lady Ruan’s death.

The old lady hadn’t even had time to swallow a sip of tea before choking, ”What did you say? That old woman is dead?”

”Yes.” Madam Ruan lowered her head and said softly, ”It happened this morning.”

The old lady suddenly slapped her leg and laughed, ”Well, as they say, bad people will get their due. After all the bad things she did, heaven has finally taken her. She...”

She stopped speaking halfway, realizing that Madam Ruan sitting in front of her was Old Lady Ruan’s daughter, and fell silent.

Seeing Madam Ruan’s calm expression, she felt relieved.

Then she coughed lightly with some awkwardness, ”Well, what are you thinking? Are you going to wear mourning clothes and send her off on her last journey?”

Madam Ruan’s fingers suddenly tightened, and she slightly bit her lip.

After a long time, she raised her head and looked at the old lady, ”Mother, I... I don’t know.”

The mother-daughter relationship between Madam Ruan and Old Lady Ruan actually faded away in the endless daily exploitation even before she got married. Later, in order for her family and two sons to live well, Old Lady Ruan stole and sold the child Madam Ruan had painfully given birth to, which not only separated mother and daughter but left her in self-reproach and regret for over ten years.

She even once thought of taking a knife to the Ruan family and dying together with Old Lady Ruan.

When she was at her lowest and most desperate, it was Lu Erbai and the old lady who shoved Daya into her arms, calming her down gradually.

But Old Lady Ruan showed no sign of reflection or regret, and a few years ago, she targeted her twins again.

From that time onwards, whether Old Lady Ruan lived or died had nothing to do with her.

She lost the emotional connection with Old Lady Ruan long ago, even less than a stranger. If a stranger passed away, she might express some pity. But upon hearing the news of Old Lady Ruan’s death, besides feeling dazed and surreal, she had a sense of liberation as if shackles had suddenly been removed.

Therefore, at first, Madam Ruan didn’t plan to attend Old Lady Ruan’s funeral.

Yet upon reconsideration, she became indecisive. She didn’t care about Old Lady Ruan, but she had to care for her children.

Yu is now the county magistrate, Ah Rui will also study and take the imperial examination, and their future son-in-law who just finished the township exam will open an academy in Jiangyuan County to become the Mountain Master.

If it gets out that the Lu family didn’t attend Old Lady Ruan’s funeral, those unaware will only think that the Lu family, having power and influence, looks down on poor relatives.
