The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Ms. Lou couldn’t take it and of course ran back to her parents’ home after being beaten.

The Lou family couple came to Ruan Kewei to settle the score, but Ruan Kewei, emboldened by alcohol, beat the Lou couple too.

Once he sobered up, Ruan Hai asked him to go and apologize, saying it was the alcohol’s fault, but no actual punishment followed.

With Ruan Hai handling the aftermath, Ruan Kewei became more aggressive, and his actions became less considerate.

At first, the Lou family couple thought to advise Ms. Lou to avoid him or to say nice things, thinking there would be some way to cool Ruan Kewei’s anger. But nothing worked, and the injuries on Ms. Lou became more severe each time.

The Lou family couple couldn’t stand it anymore and decided to take Ms. Lou away and separate from Ruan Kewei. Even if they didn’t separate and were just divorced by Ruan Kewei, it would be better than being beaten to death.

However, a separation was impossible, and the Ruan family would not agree to divorce.

Who was Ruan Hai? He was the village chief and Clan Leader of Ruan Family Village, and there were plenty of people speaking on his behalf.

They said it was Ms. Lou’s fault as she hadn’t conceived any children in a year since the marriage, threatening to cut off the Ruan family lineage, making Ruan Kewei understandably uncomfortable.

They claimed the Lou family was making a big issue out of nothing; during these times, many young wives were beaten by husbands—all of them managed to get through. Why did the Lou family’s daughter think herself more precious?

They argued that separating would bring disgrace; the Lou parents should consider the reputation of Ms. Lou’s siblings even if they didn’t think about themselves.

They insisted it certainly was Ms. Lou’s fault for not knowing how to win over and please her husband. If she were just a little more obedient and diligent, Ruan Kewei wouldn’t have needed to beat her.

The Lou parents were on the verge of fury, but separating was impossible as Ruan Hai not only had help from the villagers but also connections in town.

Ms. Lou didn’t want her parents and siblings to be implicated, so she eventually never spoke of separation again, and her life became increasingly numb. However, her injuries never healed.

Ruan Chengchun told Shu Yu, ”Last time, my wife saw Ms. Lou being beaten by Ruan Kewei, and she ran to the riverside, impulsively jumping directly into the water. If my wife hadn’t saved her, she might have drowned.”

Ruan Chengchun mentioned Ms. Lou because of this incident.

He thought, Ms. Lou was no longer afraid of dying, so why would she fear joining forces with them against the Ruan family?

Shu Yu lowered his eyes, and Ruan Chengqian spoke, ”If anyone can obtain evidence of Ruan Hai’s wrongdoing, it’s only Ms. Lou. We just need to leverage the county magistrate’s authority to give Ms. Lou confidence.”

”That’s not a problem, but how do we reach Ms. Lou?”

Ruan Chengqian thought for a moment, ”I’ll figure this out. The magistrate should rest assured and wait patiently; I will persuade Ms. Lou.”

Shu Yu nodded, and once the matters were discussed, the group left the room.

The Zhang Clan and Ms. Wang had already tidied up Shu Yu’s room, each finding it strange, not knowing what they were discussing but aware it seemed quite serious.

Unexpectedly, Ruan Chengqian walked straight to Zhang Clan, ”Sister-in-law, there’s something I want to ask you about.”

Just now, my brother mentioned that last time Ms. Lou jumped into the river and was saved by Sister-in-law.

The two had some acquaintance; Ruan Chengqian wanted to inquire about Ms. Lou’s temperament to determine the right approach to persuade her.

But after just two sentences, Zhang Clan said, ”If you want to find Ms. Lou, she’s currently doing laundry by the river.”

Shu Yu was surprised, ”Now?”

”Yes,” Zhang Clan said, ”She goes to the river to wash clothes at this time every day.”

At this hour, neither early nor late, there was nobody by the river, only Ms. Lou doing laundry there.
