The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

However, Granny Fang wasn’t just in it for the money. Seeing those exquisite clothes brought her joy and longing.

She yearned to make delicate clothes with good fabrics, which gave her a sense of accomplishment.

Thus, the old lady and Yuan Gui didn’t stop her, they just advised her to manage her time well and not to overwork herself.

That’s why Granny Fang’s wages were calculated by the piece; the more she made, the more she earned.

The old lady said, ”She is probably in the sewing room right now. She should come back later to eat with your mother. With Yuan Gui not around, she either eats here or cooks with Xiang and the others. I don’t interfere with her; as long as she’s comfortable, it’s all better than before.”

Shu Yu nodded, ”Living in Liufang Alley is indeed convenient.” The house Meng Yunzheng rented is also there.

”By the way, since your Aunt and Yuan Gui bought a house here, what happened to Yuan Gui’s original house in the prefecture?”

Yuan Gui originally had a small house in the prefecture, which he bought after spending all his savings and borrowing some more.

Although the house was really small, it was his place of refuge and livelihood.

After the news of his passing spread and with no children or close family, nobody knows what happened to the house. It might have been reclaimed by the authorities or taken over by someone else.

The old lady shook her head, ”No, after we returned, we brought your Aunt to pay respects to your great-grandparents. Then we started looking into buying a house, moving, and settling down. Once everything was settled, Daniu came back, saying he had to deliver a batch of goods to the shop in Changjin Prefecture and mentioned you all were planning to set up a convoy and wanted Yuan Gui to oversee it. He was very glad and eager to earn more money, so without a word, he went with Daniu to the Manor. Daniu was in a hurry. As soon as the goods were counted, they departed.”

In such a rush, Yuan Gui didn’t have time to go to the prefecture.

”We all know about the unscrupulous deeds of that escort agency, hiding the fact of Yuan Gui falling off the cliff for the sake of their reputation. Since they hid it, they made no sincere effort to bring him back. This matter can’t just be left unresolved; when Yuan Gui returns from this trip, he definitely needs to demand an explanation.”

Shu Yu laughed, ”Yes, he should get an explanation. Let Third Uncle accompany him then; he loves being involved in debt collection matters.”

The old lady’s lips twitched at the memory of the scene when they sought debt from the Chen family.

”He’s not very proper for his age, still lacking decorum.”

However, when talking about Lu Sanzhu, the old lady suddenly seemed to recall something, looking hesitantly at Shu Yu, ”I heard from Ah Rui and the others that you ran into Daniu on your way back?”

”Yes, we did.”

”Did Daniu tell you about your Third Uncle...”

Shu Yu rubbed her forehead, ”Grandmother means Third Uncle has been telling everyone I became a county magistrate, right?”

”Yes, he’s been quite boastful.” Though she was complaining about Lu Sanzhu, the old lady was actually quite happy herself. Her granddaughter was impressive; if she didn’t boast, wouldn’t it feel like wearing fine clothes at night, unnoticed by others? That would be a loss.

”It’s fine, those who need to know will know sooner or later. I’m mentally prepared.”

The old lady was relieved. She thought for a moment and comforted Shu Yu, ”You don’t need to worry either. When people first found out you became a county magistrate, many came to our house, but I sent them away. Now, a few months have passed, and it’s not as bustling as in the beginning.”
