The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Capítulo 1905: Chapter 1905: Qi Lie’s Motive

Qi Lie saw that she wasn’t speaking, so he glanced at Meng Yunzheng, who was calmly sipping tea. Qi Lie pursed his lips and continued, “I actually think Changjin Prefecture has a lot of potential, and it’s Yunzheng’s hometown, a place rooted in the Meng family. It’ll be convenient to come and go in the future, right?”

Shu Yu nodded in agreement.

Qi Lie then chuckled, “Take a look at the shop deeds in your hand. I picked them out for half the day and selected three of the most suitable locations for you. You can go and see them all; choose whichever you like.”

Picked them out for half the day? Aren’t you terribly busy?

“Is Lord Qi giving these to me?”

Qi Lie silently took a sip of tea. He’s quite poor, and shops in the prefecture of Changjin Prefecture aren’t cheap, right?

“What’s this talk about giving? The imperial court is rewarding you. You’ve made significant contributions in this endeavor, and being titled the Wen’an County Lord is just one of your rewards. Giving you a shop here in the prefecture is only fitting. When you were conferred as Village Chief by the former emperor, you were also awarded a big house in Jiangyuan County. Now that you’re the county magistrate, giving you a shop is quite a concession.”

Qi Lie said earnestly, but he was speaking the truth.

These house deeds and land deeds are eyed by many people from the entire Changjin Prefecture. The authorities announced they would be auctioned, so no one can pull strings privately.

If he were to privately sell or give one of these shops to Shu Yu, not only he but even Shu Yu would be criticized.

Thus, presenting it as an imperial court reward is the most reasonable thing.

Qi Lie could make this decision.

Shu Yu raised an eyebrow; it seems being the county magistrate was worthwhile, as these three shops are expensive. Of course, the authorities might set a lower starting price for an auction, but good locations attract many bidders, making the eventual price even higher.

Shu Yu naturally accepted with a smile, “Well then, thank you, Lord, but I must first go and see where these three shops are located.”

“Of course.” Qi Lie was very pleased, seeming relieved that she accepted the shops.

The expression made Shu Yu increasingly suspicious, feeling as though he had some kind of scheme.

However, seeing Meng Yunzheng at the side without any objections, it seemed that even if there was a scheme, it wouldn’t harm her.

Shu Yu stood up to leave, Meng Yunzheng rose as well, and said to Qi Lie, “I’ll accompany her.”

“Hey.” Qi Lie raised his hand, intending to stop him. However, Meng Yunzheng swiftly moved, and the study door closed with a ‘bang’.

Qi Lie ground his teeth, eventually letting out a light hum, “Forget it, go and be lazy.”

Meng Yunzheng quickly walked a few steps and caught up with Shu Yu, who was waiting at the side. She waved the shop deeds in her hand and asked, “What’s going on? Why did Lord Qi suddenly have this idea? Did you talk to him?”

“No.” Meng Yunzheng held her hand, explaining as they walked out, “The shop, well, is what you deserve. But Qi Lie also wants to use it as a way to keep you, and coincidentally… keep me too.”

Before the New Year, Meng Yunzheng had told Qi Lie that after New Year’s, he planned to return to Dongan Province with Shu Yu.

Qi Lie was unwilling but helpless. Romantic men are really hard to deal with. According to him, Lu Shuyu is so capable, there’s nothing to worry about if she goes back alone. Why must he stay behind to guard and protect her?

But Meng Yunzheng was very determined, and Qi Lie couldn’t do anything but temporarily agree.
