The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1848: Chapter 1848: The Whole Family Is No Good

The old lady’s spirits instantly lifted when she heard Chen Bing’s name, and the fatigue she previously felt disappeared.

She looked at Third Lu, ”What do you mean?”

”I’ve asked around. The clerk at the Chen Family’s general store has only been there for a little over two months. They had a clerk who worked for several years before, but he was kicked out two months ago. Guess why?”

Shu Yu said, ”It has something to do with Chen Bing’s daughter.” Ying Xi had previously heard this from the current clerk.

She thought the clerk and the Chen Family’s daughter had mutual feelings for each other, but the Chen Family disagreed.

Who knew Third Lu would say, ”Yes, it was related to the Chen Family daughter. Chen Bing’s daughter, Chen Qiu, took a liking to the former clerk. I heard from the Boss Lady next door that the clerk was very handsome and charming, and the general store’s business was good because many people came for him.”

”It’s a pity, such a good-looking and sweet-talking person got noticed by Chen Qiu. But the clerk had a childhood sweetheart waiting for him at home, and he saved up some money over the years to go back and marry her. Chen Qiu was unhappy. As a boss’s daughter liking an ordinary clerk, he didn’t appreciate it?”

”Chen Qiu frequently bothered the clerk and even had people find his hometown girl, threatening her until she almost jumped into the river. The clerk would not budge, and things soured. Chen Bing, perhaps feeling guilty and worried about his daughter’s reputation, decided not to keep the clerk by accusing him of embezzling from the store.”

”The locals know the clerk’s character well; the Chen Family only ever docked his wages. He never embezzled anything. Chen Bing demanded compensation, but the clerk refused, leading to turmoil that reached the authorities. However...”

Third Lu sighed at this point, ”Chen Bing has always had a good relationship with the bailiffs at the county office.”

Everyone instantly understood; they all knew what kind of person the last county magistrate of Chenggu was.

He had a group of followers rebelling with him, and Chen Bing had long established ties with the officers at the county office. The clerk going to the county office was walking into a trap, with the officers likely siding with Chen Bing.

Sure enough, Third Lu said, ”Not only did the clerk find no justice, but he was beaten with a cane. In the end, he had to pay Chen Family money and even got locked up.”

The old lady slapped her thigh in anger, ”That old scoundrel truly is ruthless, driving someone to their death. Doesn’t he fear heavenly retribution?”

Shu Yu quickly comforted her, ”Grandmother, don’t be angry.” She furrowed her brows and asked Third Lu, ”Are you saying the clerk is still imprisoned?”

”That’s what the Boss Lady next door said.”

”What is the clerk’s name, and how old is he?”

Third Lu scratched his head, ”I’ve asked that carefully. Yu, are you planning to rescue him?”

”He’s innocent, and we stumbled upon this. Naturally, we have to get him out.” Furthermore, there’s significant animosity between Chen Bing and them.

The old lady nodded repeatedly, ”That’s right, there’s no reason for an innocent person to be locked up while the wrongdoer feasts outside. It’s sheer injustice.”
