The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1809: Chapter 1809: The Third Prince Is Dead

Meng Yunzheng replied, ”The Third Prince is dead. They planned to force the palace, thinking it was a foolproof plan, and the Third Prince personally led it. Little did they know, they fell into the Emperor’s trap and were shot dead on the spot.”

After the death of the Third Prince, Empress Dowager Xiao, who was still residing in the palace, hanged herself immediately upon receiving the news.

”What about the other members of the Xiao Family...”

”Except for Xiao’s parents’ branch, everyone else was arrested and thrown into prison.”

The arrest of the Xiao Family was personally led by Xiang Weinan. Only then did the main branch of the Xiao Family realize that Xiang Weinan had always been the Emperor’s man, which explained why no matter how they tried to win him over, various accidents always happened that kept the Xiang Family out of the whirlpool.

They never expected that one day they would be tricked by a junior, truly blind they were.

The Xiao Family was raided, and Xiao’s parents were taken back by Xiang Weinan to be settled in the Xiang Family, to be arranged again after the handling results of the Xiao Family come out.

And those who stood with the Third Prince were all imprisoned.

”What about the Second Prince?”

Meng Yunzheng glanced at her, ”He’s currently locked up in prison.”

That glance gave Shu Yu a strange feeling, ”The Emperor’s disposition towards him is...”

”No immediate action, he can’t be executed.”

”Why?” Shu Yu asked and then immediately reacted herself, ”The black market?”

”Yes.” Meng Yunzheng nodded, ”The black market in Changjin Prefecture has already been found, and another one nearby the capital has also been located. But there’s still one black market that hasn’t been found yet.”

They had all seen what consequences the black market in Chenggu County had caused.

Inside it harbored weapons, gold and silver, and manpower, even the managers were well-trained.

More importantly, the black market was backed by local officials and held a lot of important information and leverage over officials.

If the Second Prince were beheaded, the last black market might just go into chaos again.

The Emperor wants to extract the location of the black market from the Second Prince’s mouth, so he can only be detained and slowly interrogated.

”What’s it called? The scourge lives for a millennium,” Shu Yu had to lament the Second Prince’s great fortune.

The people who conspired with him have all perished, last time it was Gong Qiu, who ordered the execution was the late Emperor. However, the late Emperor had to consider his reputation, so it wasn’t proper to execute the Second Prince openly, letting him survive.

This time it was the Third Prince, and the one ordering the execution was the current Emperor. Yet the Emperor still had to be concerned about the black market in his hands and the objects and information it held, fearing to act rashly, he could only imprison him once more, allowing him to live again.

The Second Prince must be the favored child of destiny, seemingly unkillable.

Shu Yu was worried, ”This time, we can’t let him fake his death and escape again, right?”

Meng Yunzheng chuckled, ”With past experiences, if such a negligence happens again, the Emperor said he might as well abdicate.”

After saying this, he finished applying the ointment, placing his hands on the table to let it dry.

He told Shu Yu, ”Don’t worry, there are so many capable people in the capital, these matters aren’t for us to worry about.” He quickly changed the subject, ”The new county magistrate of Chenggu County is on the way, and should arrive in the county town soon. Then you can take a good rest.”

”What about the magistrate of Changjin Prefecture?”

Meng Yunzheng shook his head, ”The Ministry of Personnel hasn’t yet found a suitable candidate for the magistrate, it might still take some days, at least until after the New Year.”
