The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1813: Chapter 1813: Tang Wenqian Pays a New Year Visit

Seeing the three red envelopes with ten taels of silver each, Meng Han instantly felt overwhelmed.

But she quickly became excited again, grabbing Shu Yu’s hand and said, ”Sister Shuyu, now I have money. I’ll treat you to something to eat. Let me tell you, there’s a pastry stall in our Chenggu County that’s especially delicious. You were too busy before the New Year, and I never got the chance to take you out. Although today is New Year’s, that stall will still be open, come on, I’ll take you to try it.”

Shu Yu was pulled along by her for a few steps, suddenly Meng Han stopped as if something came to her mind, her eyes darting around.

”No, it won’t be fun if just the two of us go. Let’s call our cousin and my brother. The more the merrier.” This way, someone else could pay. She could save the money she had, hmm, she was indeed a clever little fox.

Just as Meng Han turned around to gather people, guests suddenly arrived at the house.

First, it was the escorts from the escort agency, coming with their families and children to pay their New Year respects. As the host, Meng Han couldn’t leave them unattended, especially since their children were about the same age as herself, so she had to entertain them.

Soon after, Old Master Yan and He Er arrived, carrying various gift boxes, lively exchanging greetings and catching up with Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng.

The whole Meng family’s escort agency was bustling, and even Uncle Meng felt sentimental, saying this was the liveliest year for the Meng family in many years.

But that wasn’t all. Just as He Er and the others were talking about the recognition their family received and the many relatives and friends visiting on New Year’s Eve, the Meng family’s servants hurriedly came in and anxiously said to Meng Pei and others in the living room, ”Head Master, Second Lord, the county magistrate has arrived.”

Everyone was collectively stunned, quickly exchanging looks.

Perhaps only Meng Yunzheng’s face showed no hint of surprise. He was the first to stand up and say, ”Let’s go. The county magistrate coming at this time must mean something.”

Visiting this early on New Year’s, if there’s truly something, it must be significant.

Everyone felt somewhat uneasy inside, fearing that even the New Year wouldn’t be peaceful.

By the time the group went to the front yard, Tang Wenqian had already brought his people through the door.

”Old Master Meng, it’s been a while. Happy New Year, I’m here to pay my respects.”

Meng Pei laughed heartily, ”Lord Tang, you’re too courteous. Really, we should be paying you a visit. Please come in, please come in.”

Old Master Yang and others all stepped forward to greet him. Tang Wenqian nodded slightly, kindly exchanging a few words before following Meng Pei inside.

The living room was well stocked for the New Year. Seeing the things set on the table, Tang Wenqian couldn’t help but think of past New Year scenes at home. Back then, his parents also prepared New Year’s goods early. Although they weren’t plentiful, and the family wasn’t wealthy, the unity of the family made it all worthwhile.

He had already sent word back regarding his position as the county magistrate of Chenggu County.

He had also discussed with his parents that once things settled down, he would send someone to bring them over after he established himself in the county town.

But during the New Year, there were very few people in the county office, making it feel cold and quiet. His urgent assumption of office left him unprepared, and it was not until he went out that he felt the festive atmosphere.

”Lord, please have some tea.”

Tang Wenqian snapped back, nodding to Meng Pei.

He had come from Dongan Province, and he could find common topics with Meng Pei, so they chatted happily and at length.

Just as Meng Pei and others thought Tang Wenqian’s visit was merely a routine call, Tang Wenqian suddenly said, ”I’m here today to announce the Imperial Decree.”
