The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1808: Chapter 1808: The One Injured Is Lord Jing

Shu Yu’s hand paused while applying the ointment, ”Has the dust finally settled over in the capital?”

”I suppose.” Meng Yunzheng sighed, ”The dead are dead, those caught are caught, and the capital has been like a storm for two months. It’s finally calming down before the year ends.”

According to Meng Yunzheng, the situation in the capital is even more brutal and perilous than here.

Although the Emperor knew that the Second Prince was still alive, and after joining forces with the Third Prince, he prepared early on. He even anticipated their moves when things started to get chaotic in Chenggu County, allowing him to act in advance.

However, since the Second Prince and the Third Prince had been planning for so long, they aimed for a decisive hit. Not to mention their open power, they also had plenty of hidden pawns.

Moreover, they would stop at nothing to achieve their goals, acting without any principles, just like targeting innocent common people in Chenggu County. At first, they aimed at the officials’ heads, and three imperial mandate officials were assassinated, one severely injured, and two dead.

This event pushed the atmosphere in the capital to extreme tension and unease; imperial court officials traveled in fear, and the common people were even more anxious and uneasy.

Upon mentioning this, Meng Yunzheng remained silent for a moment, then looked up at Shu Yu and said, ”The severely injured official is Lord Jing, the Minister of Ministry of Central Judicial Office.”

Shu Yu suddenly raised her head, ”Jing, Lord Jing?”

She also had a decent relationship with Lord Jing. When she went to the capital to find Meng Yunzheng, she even stayed at his home for a few days and was quite familiar with Madam Chang.

She had never thought that when she heard news about him again, it would be under such circumstances.

”Yes, the officials targeted by the Second Prince were all close associates of the late Emperor. Their intention was to frame the Emperor for harming the late Emperor’s old followers and promoting his own loyal officials. But Lord Jing is different; you and I both know that, although he was outwardly an associate of the late Emperor, in reality, he’s always been one of the Emperor’s people. This hasn’t been exposed yet, but the Second Prince already knew this in advance, so although the official positions of the other two victimized officials weren’t significant, targeting Lord Jing, as the Minister of Ministry of Central Judicial Office, truly shocked everyone.”

However, Lord Jing himself was skilled in martial arts and was a cautious man. Knowing that officials had been harmed, everyone became vigilant. His household had no shortage of capable people, yet even so, he still encountered assassination attempts while working in the government office.

”How is Lord Jing now?” Shu Yu couldn’t help but ask.

”Fortunately, the timely treatment prevented any critical injuries. His life has been saved, but he’s suffered quite a bit.”

Only then did Shu Yu feel at ease, turning her thoughts to others, ”What about Mister Qi and Uncle Yao, are they alright?”

”Rest assured, they’re fine.”

Yao Tianqin is someone wholeheartedly devoted to industry; although he’s the Minister of Public Works, he’s not sensitive to the court politics, focusing solely on creating useful tools for the nation and its people.

To the Second Prince and his cohort, such officials are not only non-threatening but also potentially valuable talents once they ascend to power.

As for Qi Chan, he’s the Grand Tutor, the foremost among scholars. Without absolute certainty, the Second Prince wouldn’t dare to move against him. Furthermore, if they wanted to act, they wouldn’t resort to killing but would instead resort to threats and inducements, hoping to persuade the Grand Tutor to side with them.

Therefore, for someone like Grand Tutor Qi, the Emperor had long sent people to protect him in secret.

Shu Yu sighed deeply and asked, ”And now, what about the Second Prince and Third Prince?”
