The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1824: Chapter 1824: I’m the Best with You in the World

Shu Yu playfully flicked her forehead, ”Do you think anyone who stands up to Tao Qin is automatically on your side? I remember when we first met, I slapped Tao Qin, and you immediately warmed up to me.”

Meng Han felt a bit embarrassed, ”Not really, I do judge people on a case-by-case basis.”

Saying this, she looked at Shu Yu’s expression again, ”Sister Shuyu, don’t be jealous, you’re still number one in my heart.”

Shu Yu, ”...” Ugh, who’s jealous.

”Your second cousin isn’t really a bad person. If Zhang Clan and Tao Qin hadn’t plotted against her first, she wouldn’t have retaliated. It’s good for you to have this friendly relationship; if she becomes successful in the future, she’ll likely remember your kindness.”

Getting Shu Yu’s validation, Meng Han immediately brightened up, ”Right, that’s what I thought too. Second cousin put up with so much bullying before and didn’t fight back. Who would resort to such measures unless they were truly desperate? People in the village think she’s scheming and will cause trouble in the future, it’s just absurd.”

”So you guys went to Tao Family Village today, heard such gossip, and came right back?”

It’s still early after all.

Meng Han sighed, ”No, we also visited Great Uncle’s house in the morning and planned to go to Great Aunt’s house in the afternoon. But somehow, rumors spread saying our Meng family received an imperial plaque from the emperor. Everyone started flocking around us, half the village was sucking up, and we just couldn’t handle it, so we found an excuse to escape back home.”

Tao Family Village is similar to Hedeng Village, it’s even closer to the county town. On the second day of the lunar new year, people go into town for visits, so of course, they’d hear such rumors.

Meng Han was genuinely a bit scared now, even the once vain Ms. Tao couldn’t handle it.

Luckily, they don’t usually have to go back, just visit during holidays, and Meng Han and Meng Qi return even less frequently.

For Meng Han, the biggest takeaway today was learning about the Tao family’s situation.

At the same time, she was also a bit worried.

”Sister Shuyu, do you think Tao Qin will come to our house to ask my mother to help annul the engagement with Landlord Jin? Now that we have the imperial plaque, Landlord Jin would also be intimidated.”

Shu Yu raised an eyebrow, ”You’ll have to ask your parents about that. If they don’t want to help, it shouldn’t be a big issue. Besides, if Tao Qin wants to annul the engagement, I’m guessing Zhang Clan won’t agree either.”

Zhang Clan is clinging to Landlord Jin for money. Now that Tao Ling has run away and Tao Qin’s reputation is tarnished, if she doesn’t marry Landlord Jin, the dream of using her two daughters to have a good life is dashed, and how will she and her son survive?

Meng Han had an epiphany, ”You’re right.”

On the way back, she did ask her parents about it. Her father didn’t express any opinion, while her mother angrily said that Tao Qin deserved it, as she plotted against others first, so she couldn’t blame Tao Ling.

But as much as she said that, whether her mother would have a change of heart at the last minute was uncertain.

But Meng Han’s worries weren’t unfounded. A day later, Tao Qin indeed sneaked away from Zhang Clan and ran to the Meng family for help.

Unfortunately, just as she rushed into the Meng family’s front yard, she was dragged back to the Tao house by Meng Qi and told Zhang Clan to keep a close eye on her and not disturb their lives anymore.

Zhang Clan was furious; she thought Tao Qin had given up, but she still managed to cause a ruckus.

Without a word, she tied Tao Qin up and locked her in a room, just waiting for the wedding day to arrive.
