The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1811: Chapter 1811: It’s New Year’s

Tang Wenqian passed the scholarly examination a few years ago. Originally, he would have followed protocol, participated in the Imperial Examination the year after next, and advanced step by step on the path of civil service exams. He would become an Advanced Scholar, enter the Hanlin Academy, and then rise from the lower ranks of officials, likely reaching the seventh rank by the time he was in his thirties.

This was the ideal career plan Tang Wenqian had set for himself over the years.

Who could have predicted that Xiang Weinan would appreciate Tang Wenqian’s abilities and take him along when he left Jiangyuan County for the capital?

Xiang Weinan was already a trusted aide of the Emperor, and this time he encountered the rebellion of the Second Prince and Third Prince.

Following Xiang Weinan, it was the perfect time for Tang Wenqian to make a significant achievement.

He was a smart person, after all, and witnessed many things around Xiang Weinan. He handled affairs both beautifully and efficiently, quickly catching the Emperor’s eye.

This incident caused the downfall of many officials, and as the imperial court was in need of new talents, despite being only a scholarly graduate, Tang Wenqian was a capable person qualified to become an official.

Therefore, he was appointed by the Emperor as the county magistrate here.

Tang Wenqian was initially somewhat uneasy, but knowing that Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng were here, meeting up with two old friends made him keenly eager.

”As Lord Xia just said, Young Master Meng has been staying in the prefecture. When will he return?”

Shu Yu thought for a moment, ”In three days, it will be the New Year. He should return these days. Do you have any business with him?”

Tang Wenqian pondered for a while, ”Hmm... Then I will visit your residence on New Year’s.”

Visit...?

Shu Yu found his words rather peculiar, but she didn’t dwell on it.

Tang Wenqian had just arrived, with many matters at hand. The chat with Shu Yu was brief, and soon he let Shu Yu go about her business because he needed to handle official work.

Tang Wenqian’s abilities were indeed commendable. Xia Yi and the others had no issues handing things over to him. He’s very diligent, and according to Yuan Gui, the lamp in Lord’s study stays lit late into the night, and he’s up early the next day to work.

Tang Wenqian spent a day familiarizing himself with recent events in Chenggu County. The next day, he ordered the public notices to be posted, officially announcing the crimes of the Second Prince and Third Prince.

Then, he began the process of rewarding merits. Old Master Yang, He Er, and others were to be commended for their contributions.

The commendation ceremony was scheduled for after the New Year, allowing everyone to prepare in advance.

The third day was New Year’s Eve, and on this day, Meng Yunzheng returned, then met with Tang Wenqian at the county office.

Shu Yu didn’t know what they talked about, but that didn’t matter; happily preparing for the New Year’s Eve dinner was the most important thing now.

The other escorts at the Meng family escort agency had gone home, leaving only family members.

Ms. Tao had changed a lot lately, taking care of Uncle Meng personally, and began to show motherly care toward Meng Han and Meng Qi.

It seemed that she was learning to be a good mother, but the estrangement and resentment built over the years were not easily changed overnight.

Uncle Meng’s health had significantly improved, allowing him to move around, though not for large actions. He would walk around the courtyard daily, feeling quite content.

The New Year’s Eve dinner was lively and cheerful. Meng Han and Meng Qi each prepared a performance to delight Uncle Meng.

Shu Yu watched and began to feel a bit homesick, wondering if they would still buy a pile of fireworks like last year to set off.
