The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1810: Chapter 1810: The New County Magistrate Is an Old Acquaintance

The position of magistrate differs from that of county magistrate, especially in a place like Changjin Prefecture, which has recently experienced chaos. Therefore, choosing the right candidate requires extra caution.

Fortunately, there are Qi Lie and General Huang alongside Meng Yunzheng on this side. With these three present, the Emperor does not have to rush the selection process, as there is still a mess in the Capital that needs to be addressed.

Meng Yunzheng finished discussing the situation in the Capital, spent a night at the escort agency, and returned to the prefecture the next day.

This time, he spent over ten days on his journey.

Chenggu County has now regained its usual stability, and the streets have become lively again. The citizens have started preparing for the New Year festivities, and there aren’t any significant issues anymore.

Shu Yu assumed the new County Magistrate of Chenggu County would arrive soon, but unexpectedly, it was only three days before the New Year that he finally arrived at the city gate with a convoy of carriages.

The arriving county magistrate was very young, so young that Shu Yu almost thought her eyes were deceiving her and she was hallucinating.

Otherwise, why would she see a...familiar face?

Indeed, this person was familiar, yet an acquaintance she never expected.

After disembarking from the carriage, he first stepped forward to apologize to Xia Yi and Shu Yu, who came to greet him, ”Lord Xia, Monarch Lu Xiang, I deeply apologize. Something happened on the road, causing some delays. I have been impolite.”

Xia Yi waved his hand, ”Lord Tang, there’s no need for formality. The county office is already prepared; this way, please.”

Shu Yu remained standing where she was until Xia Yi and the newly arrived county magistrate left. Only after Yuan Gui nudged her gently, did she snap back to reality and quickly followed.

Tang Wenqian, the new county magistrate turned out to be Tang Wenqian??

How could it possibly be him?!

Most of the county office affairs are managed by Xia Yi and General Huang’s deputy general, and Shu Yu prefers not to get too involved, usually only lending a hand.

Therefore, Xia Yi and the deputy general are sufficient to handle the handover with the new county magistrate.

Shu Yu initially planned to return to the escort agency after receiving the county magistrate. However, upon finding out the new county magistrate is an acquaintance, she decided to stay.

Standing in the middle of the main hall, she was still in shock. Yunzheng probably didn’t know the new county magistrate’s identity; otherwise, he would have informed her in advance.

Or perhaps, Xiang Weinan intentionally kept it a secret, deliberately giving them a ’surprise’?

”Monarch Lu Xiang, are you surprised to see me?” A voice suddenly sounded from behind, making Shu Yu abruptly turn around, only to see Tang Wenqian walking in from outside.

Shu Yu turned around, exhaling, ”Indeed, I’m quite surprised. I didn’t expect you to be the one.”

Tang Wenqian smiled, holding a tray with teacups on it. He placed the tray on the table, poured two cups of tea, and handed one to her, ”Monarch Lu Xiang, it’s been a while.”

Shu Yu took the tea, smelled it, finding the aroma rich and somewhat familiar, resembling the tea produced in Dongan Province.

Drinking a sip, she felt a sense of homesickness.

She exhaled, took a seat on a nearby chair, observing Tang Wenqian, who was noticeably more composed and slimmer than before, and said with a smile, ”I guess I need to call you Lord Tang now. It’s been almost a year since we last met; you’ve changed so much. How did you become the County Magistrate of Chenggu County?”

Tang Wenqian sat opposite her, appearing quite relaxed in front of Shu Yu.

”Just luck, I suppose. During the chaos in the Capital, I happened to achieve some merit, and...was then appointed by the Emperor as Chenggu County’s county magistrate.”

Speaking of this, Tang Wenqian himself felt a bit dazed, unsure of where to start.
