The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1816: Chapter 1816: Granny Fang the Looks Enthusiast

The Meng family’s escort agency received an imperial plaque, and Shu Yu became the Wen’an County Lord. This news quickly spread among the wealthy families in Chenggu County.

On the second day of the New Year, everyone began to visit with gifts to offer their congratulations.

Unexpectedly, Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng left the county town early in the morning, making their way to Hedeng Village to pay New Year’s respects at Granny Fang’s house.

This was Meng Yunzheng’s first meeting with Granny Fang, even though Granny Fang, like Uncle Meng, lived at the Mi family’s clinic. However, Meng Yunzheng was always busy outside, with hardly any time to sleep, let alone visiting the clinic to see Uncle Meng.

After finally getting two or three hours of sleep to recharge, as soon as he awoke, he was pulled by Qi Lie to help in the prefecture. After that, he returned a couple of times, but there was never a chance to meet Granny Fang.

During their first official meeting, Granny Fang was a bit nervous.

The villagers of Hedeng Village started running after the carriage the moment it entered the village.

While they had already met Monarch Lu Xiang, they had only heard of Meng Yunzheng’s reputation. Today was the first time they saw him in person.

Compared to Shu Yu, Meng Yunzheng’s reputation in the village was even greater.

This scholar who had passed the Imperial Examination at all three levels last year was not just well-known in the county and prefecture, but even more so in all the villages.

Especially since there was also a scholar in their village who passed the exam last year and, upon returning, fervently extolled Meng Yunzheng’s talents, portraying him as if he stood on a pedestal, a literary genius unparalleled in history and future.

In a village with few literate people, passing as a child student or scholar was already a remarkable achievement, not to mention someone who passed the top three levels on his first try.

Back then, despite Meng Yunzheng’s fame, he remained a distant figure, someone they could feel awed by for a moment and then dismiss.

Who would have thought that someone, once considered untouchable, would appear in their village, right before their eyes?

As Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu entered the Fang family, they could still feel the villagers’ burning gazes.

Granny Fang smiled as she poured them tea, ”Don’t mind it. There are few scholars in Hedeng Village, and a scholar emerges only every ten years or so, with not particularly high rankings. So, seeing Yunzheng, it’s only natural they’re curious to take a longer look.”

While speaking, she glanced at him a couple more times.

Yu’s fiancé was truly handsome, tall, polite, and humble.

According to Ah Gui, Yunzheng was not only a scholar but also very skilled.

Seeing him and Yu standing together, they truly embodied the phrase ”a perfect match made in heaven.”

Granny Fang couldn’t help but smile while looking at them. Meng Yunzheng, such a steady person, felt a bit embarrassed under her gaze. He coughed lightly and called Yuan Gui over for a private chat.

Shu Yu chuckled quietly; her Aunt seemed to have a fondness for appearances.

Once the two left, Granny Fang sat next to Shu Yu and asked her quietly, ”When are you and Yunzheng getting married?”

”Next year, in the latter half, we haven’t picked a specific date yet.”

Granny Fang was stunned, ”Next year?”

This year was only the second day of the New Year. Wouldn’t it be nearly two years until the latter half of next year?

Yu was already seventeen this year, wasn’t that a bit late?

”Why wait until next year?”

Shu Yu, supporting her hand, walked over to sit down and explained, ”Yun is participating in the Imperial Examination this autumn. If all goes well, he’ll enter the Spring Examination next year. By then, he’ll have achieved scholarly titles, and once our schedules are free, discussing marriage won’t be too late.”
