This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Could I have everyone’s attention for a moment?”

At Du Heng’s soft words, the noisy conference room instantly fell silent. All eyes turned to him, particularly noting his calm, expressionless face and his deep, pool-like eyes.

Du Heng glanced around. ”I’ve listened to everyone’s ideas, and I have a basic understanding of your needs. Now, allow me to share my thoughts.”

He paused after this first statement, then continued in a slow, deliberate manner, ”First, I will provide an overview of the current status of the stroke research project, so everyone has a comprehensive understanding.”

At this point, the Director from the First Affiliated Hospital of JZU interjected, ”President Du, we are all very familiar with this project. Perhaps you could get straight to the key points.”

Du Heng immediately shifted his gaze to this director. ”You may not have as comprehensive an understanding as you think. Allow me to elaborate; it won’t take more than a few minutes. If Director Nie feels this is a waste of his time, he is free to leave now.”

Er...

What did he mean by that?

Director Nie’s eyes instantly turned cold, his gaze fixed on Du Heng.

Since assuming his position, no one in the Jinzhou medical circle had ever dared to address him in such a manner. But just because no one had, didn’t mean it couldn’t be said, or wouldn’t be.

Now, Du Heng had said it. Looking at Du Heng’s composed eyes, the anger flaring within Director Nie found no outlet. He abruptly realized he had no way to control Du Heng.

Director Nie, feeling a loss of face due to Du Heng’s words, remained silent, his expression glacial. The others, however, observed Director Nie with amusement dancing in their eyes.

There was a simple reason for this: apart from Director Nie, everyone else present was a doctor, specifically a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine. They did not welcome his presence.

Seeing that silence had fallen, Du Heng once again addressed the room. ”Although this project was secured towards the end of last year, its actual commencement date was back in July of last year.

”Therefore, as of now, the project has been operational for one full year.

”In this past year, the project has directly or indirectly helped over one thousand individuals regain their health, enabling them to live independently or return to work.

”The colleagues who assisted me in achieving this include those from the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Municipal First Hospital.”

The representatives from the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Municipal First Hospital were just beginning to smile when Du Heng continued, ”However, the department that treated the most patients, accounting for the largest proportion, was the Chinese Medicine Department of the Zhonghu Health Center. Their team of seven treated over 700 individuals.

”Next was the five-member team from the Provincial First Hospital, who also managed the treatment of over two hundred people.”

Du Heng unclasped his folded hands, and his right hand began to tap unconsciously on the tabletop, producing a soft TAP, TAP, TAP sound. ”Then there’s the matter of project funding. Initially, we only had 50,000 yuan, which was quite meager.

”However, as you all now know, the project has produced results. Although not extensive—only one core paper—it’s sufficient. The provincial funding has been approved: nearly one million yuan.”

Then, his tapping hand struck the table decisively, a dull THUD that startled the preoccupied attendees.

”What am I implying with all this?” Du Heng’s voice remained exceedingly soft and composed. ”It means that for this project, I lack neither manpower nor money.”

”Xiao Du, what exactly are you trying to say?” The Director from the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine looked at Du Heng, his expression unreadable.

Du Heng glanced at this Director; he was feeling a bit vexed with him.

This man was one of his former university professors; he deserved respect. Du Heng himself was also a nominal lecturer at the university—albeit one who hadn’t taught many classes—and as a staff member, he knew he should also respect his superiors.

But this senior’s overbearing attitude made him distinctly uncomfortable.

However, Du Heng was a tactful person and chose not to embarrass this former teacher and current superior. He sidestepped the question and continued, ”I understand what you all are getting at. You want my help in training a few doctors, and that’s no problem.

”Indeed, I believe it is a very necessary undertaking, even an unavoidable responsibility for me. This aligns with my original intention for initiating this project.

”Since everyone is currently so focused on talent cultivation, and we seem to be at an impasse, allow me to announce my decision.”

The moment the word ”decision” was uttered, the expressions of those present shifted once more. They understood then that Du Heng was there to inform them of his terms, not to negotiate.

”To ensure the smooth progression of this project, I have already made arrangements with the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital. We have more than enough beds to accommodate a sufficient number of patients. Therefore, I am not placing any limit on the number of doctors.

”And since everyone here is so affluent, I certainly cannot refuse your generosity.

”Therefore, the training fee for this project will be 150,000 yuan per person. I am prepared to accept any number of participants, with no time restrictions, and I guarantee comprehensive instruction until mastery.”

The expressions in the room changed yet again.

However, seeing that Du Heng clearly had more to say, they suppressed their urge to interject.

”As for the matter of first authorship on research papers, which I know is a concern for everyone, anyone is welcome to propose their research direction to me. I will do my utmost to guide and mentor them. Whether their final work qualifies for a core journal or a general publication will depend entirely on their individual abilities and efforts.

”Furthermore, regarding project funds, I will allocate them based on individual contributions. However, the majority of the funds will be dedicated to patient care.”
