This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Yes, yes, I’ll have Xiao Heng come and take a look. He’ll definitely have a way.”

Wang Zhenzhen muttered, quickly taking out her phone to make a call.

The surrounding relatives saw Wang Zhenzhen crying on the phone, looking as if she’d found a savior, and they all exchanged confused glances.

This was the Second Affiliated Hospital of JZU, the best hospital in Jinzhou, and its doctors had already stated that the chances of a full recovery were slim.

Could this Dean Du be an expert from elsewhere, even more skilled than the doctors at the Second Affiliated Hospital of JZU?

”Mhm, mhm, I’ll stay here and wait for you. I won’t go anywhere.” Wang Zhenzhen hung up the phone, tears still streaming down her face as she looked at Gong Daoyang. ”Honey, Xiao Heng said he’s coming back now. Once he’s back, you’ll be fine.”

Gong Daoyang stared blankly at the people around him, then at Wang Zhenzhen clutching his hand. Gradually, a hint of anxiety crept into his eyes.

Yu Haiting, who had been observing Gong Daoyang’s condition, noticed the panic and urgency in his eyes and hurriedly said, ”Everyone, if you want to chat, please do so outside. Give Director Gong a quiet environment to rest.”

With Yu Haiting’s reminder, the others also noticed the unusual look in Gong Daoyang’s eyes. They quickly retreated from the hospital room, leaving Wang Zhenzhen alone with him and calling back the doctor who had just stepped out.

When the doctor saw Gong Daoyang’s panicked expression and agitated hand movements, he unhesitatingly arranged for a sedative to be administered, along with supplementary neurotrophic medication.

Seeing Gong Daoyang quiet down again, everyone remained worried. Powerless, they could only wait outside the hospital room door.

「At 10 p.m., Du Heng finally returned to Jinzhou.」

Only Wu Shengnan accompanied him; they hadn’t even brought their luggage, having left it all with Kang Zhirong, who remained in Quan City.

”Honey, should we go home first or to the hospital?” As they got into the car, Wu Shengnan, noticing Du Heng’s anxious expression, asked softly.

Du Heng gazed at the pitch-black night sky outside the car window and said slowly, ”You should go home first. I’ll go to the hospital by myself.”

”I’d better go with you,” Wu Shengnan said, her voice laced with worry.

A small smile touched Du Heng’s lips, and he patted Wu Shengnan’s hand. ”It’s alright. You’ve had a long day too, and you rushed back on an overnight flight. Go home and rest first.”

Wu Shengnan squeezed his hand in return and comforted him, ”Don’t worry too much. What’s happened has happened; we just need to find a way to solve it. Besides, this is part of our job as police officers. No one ever knows whether tomorrow or an accident will arrive first.”

Du Heng looked at Wu Shengnan, who was also a little downcast, and managed a faint smile. ”Don’t you know who your husband is? I’ll definitely find a solution.”

The airport taxi sped along, but Jinzhou’s airport was notoriously inconvenient, located excessively far from the downtown area. The ride back to the Jinzhou city district would take at least an hour.

Time is a peculiar thing. When one isn’t anxious, it seems to fly by unnoticed. But when urgency gnaws, every minute stretches into an eternity. They felt they had been traveling for ages, yet a glance out the window revealed they hadn’t even left the airport expressway.

Fortunately, by midnight, Jinzhou’s traffic had thinned. The driver, making good use of the clear roads, delivered Du Heng to the entrance of the Second Affiliated Hospital of JZU in under forty minutes.

”Baby, you go back and rest first. I’ll come back as soon as I’m done,” Du Heng said, waving to Wu Shengnan in the car before turning and walking towards the hospital.

Wu Shengnan, leaning out the car window, called out, ”Honey, don’t wear yourself out too much!”

”Got it.”

Du Heng replied without turning his head and strode quickly into the hospital.

At this hour, the nurses in the inpatient department had long since locked the access doors to each floor, prohibiting any further visits for the night.

Du Heng and Wang Zhenzhen were separated by that locked door, unable to see each other.

Wang Zhenzhen had been desperately waiting for Du Heng. Now that he was finally here, only a door stood between them, and her anxiety peaked. She called for a nurse, but despite her pleading and reasoning, the nurse flatly refused to open the door.

Hearing the argument about to erupt from inside, Du Heng quickly interjected to calm Wang Zhenzhen, ”Sister, don’t worry. I’ll figure something out.”

After speaking with Wang Zhenzhen, Du Heng thought for a moment, then took out his phone and called Li Jianwei. ”...Teacher, that’s basically the situation. Do you think you could ask someone to let me in to take a look?”

Li Jianwei was already asleep and was startled awake by Du Heng’s call, leaving him a bit groggy. It took him a moment of listening to Du Heng to fully wake up, but he hadn’t clearly heard what Du Heng had said initially.

”You’re back?” Li Jianwei asked foggily.

”Yes, I just arrived. A friend of mine rescued someone and was subsequently diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder due to carbon monoxide poisoning. He’s currently in the Department of Neurology at the Second Affiliated Hospital of JZU. Do you know the Director there, or anyone else who could help? I need to get in to see him.”

”That’s a small matter. Wait for my call.”

”Thank you, Teacher.”

He hung up, and in less than five minutes, the securely closed ward door was opened from the inside. A nurse stood there, her expression so foul, it was as if she’d eaten a kilogram of shit.

”Come in. But leave as soon as you’re done.”

Du Heng shot the nurse a cold glance. If she were a nurse at my hospital, she could kiss this month’s bonus goodbye.

But this wasn’t his turf. Du Heng just gave a soft snort and walked towards Wang Zhenzhen, who was waiting by the entrance to the ward area.

Wang Zhenzhen saw Du Heng too. As he approached, she grabbed his arm. ”Xiao Heng, your Brother Gong... he... he...”

She only managed a few words before a sob caught in her throat, stifling the rest.

Du Heng took a shallow breath. ”Sister, don’t cry. Let me go see Brother Gong first, then we’ll talk.”

”Okay. Now that you’re here, I... I feel a bit more at ease.” Wang Zhenzhen clutched Du Heng’s arm with one hand, continuously wiping her tears with the other.

As the two walked away, the nurse holding the keys rolled her eyes at their retreating backs and muttered, ”Putting on an act.”

Du Heng and Wang Zhenzhen entered the hospital room. Looking at the sleeping Gong Daoyang, Du Heng asked softly, ”Sister, is Brother Gong asleep?”

Wang Zhenzhen gazed 얼굴 at the sleeping Gong Daoyang, her heart aching. Hearing Du Heng’s question, she gently shook her head. ”No. Whenever your Brother Gong is conscious, he becomes extremely agitated and creates a disturbance. The doctors here give him a sedative injection then.”

”He received one at noon, and another around nine this evening. They said it was to ensure he rests well tonight.”

Du Heng nodded in understanding. He said nothing more, simply sat down beside Gong Daoyang, and began his careful examination.

His pulse was slippery, large, and forceful under the fingers; the tip of his tongue was crimson, its coating yellow, thick, and greasy.

A slippery pulse signifies Yang and generally indicates an abundance of phlegm. A crimson tongue tip points to exuberant Heart Fire.

Du Heng sat silently to one side, and Wang Zhenzhen dared not make a sound to disturb him.

After a long while, Du Heng finally let out a heavy breath, a sharp glint in his eyes.

Gong Daoyang’s constitution is robust; it’s merely Phlegm Turbidity obscuring the Heart’s orifices. This is treatable.

Hearing Du Heng exhale, Wang Zhenzhen cautiously asked, ”Xiao Heng, how is he? Can he be cured?”

Du Heng smiled gently at Wang Zhenzhen. ”Don’t worry, Sister. It’s not a major problem. I can treat him.”

A light flashed in Wang Zhenzhen’s eyes, and a hint of joyful surprise crept onto her cheeks. ”Xiao Heng, you can’t deceive me. The doctors here said that a full recovery would be very difficult.”

Hearing Wang Zhenzhen’s words, Du Heng wasn’t angered by her doubt. He smiled again. ”Sister, surely you know my capabilities? Do you remember Wang Shiyuan’s wife? She suffered from a debilitating illness for years, and countless famous doctors couldn’t help her. Yet, I cured her with a single course of treatment.”

He chuckled. ”Just because they can’t treat an illness doesn’t mean I can’t. Conversely, there are conditions I can’t treat that they can handle easily. So, Sister, please rest assured. Brother Gong will be fine.”

Wang Zhenzhen’s hands and feet trembled with agitation, and words tumbled out incoherently, ”Then treat him quickly, make him better! We haven’t been home in three days, and the elders in the family are starting to get suspicious.”

Du Heng shook his head; he understood Wang Zhenzhen’s excitement. ”Sister, don’t get too worked up. It’s the middle of the night, and besides, this is the Second Affiliated Hospital of JZU. If I’m to treat Brother Gong, I first need to discuss it with his attending doctor.”

Hearing Du Heng’s words, Wang Zhenzhen’s emotions calmed slightly. ”You’re right. I was too agitated and spoke foolishly.”
