This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The old man left, but his steps became increasingly unsteady.

The junior, waiting at the door, tried to help by reaching out his arm, but the old man stubbornly pushed him away. ”No need to help, I’m not that weak yet.”

The junior didn’t insist and obediently took a step back. However, his attention remained entirely focused on Zhang Dewen, constantly monitoring his condition, ready to rush over at the slightest sign of trouble.

He felt a mixture of confusion, agitation, loss, and relief.

He couldn’t understand why Guan Bo, who had always been in good health, had suddenly become like this, rendering the plan he had painstakingly prepared useless. The position he had always coveted was his, and so easily.

Following the old man, they walked together. But when the latter suddenly changed direction, the junior’s slightly excited heart began to tense up.

”Teacher, aren’t we going back to the office?”

”We’re going to the Psychiatry Department.”

His heart tightened briefly but quickly relaxed.

Guan Bo’s sudden madness had given him a chance to replace him. But if Guan Bo recovered, given Zhang Dewen’s current attitude towards Guan Bo, he would likely be pushed back to his original position. However, there was one very important fact: Zhang Dewen might be a National Medical Master, true, but aside from his own specialty, his accomplishments in other fields hadn’t reached a Master’s level. Even though traditional Chinese medicine emphasized a holistic approach, and his understanding in various aspects was infinitely close to that of a Master, it was merely close. This was clearly demonstrated by two disease records: Cao Binghe’s eye disease from the beginning, and Director Jia’s stroke today. Guan Bo had gone mad, developed a cognitive disorder, and the Psychiatry Department had diagnosed him with sudden-onset schizophrenia. For a disease that even specialized psychiatry departments had no effective treatment for, the junior simply didn’t believe Zhang Dewen could devise a solution. Firstly, since he had known Zhang Dewen, he had never seen nor heard of him treating such a brain disease. Secondly, if there were a solution, Zhang Dewen would have figured it out this morning when he spent all that time in the Psychiatry Department, not waited until now. Therefore, the junior was now at ease. Guan’s position would be his; no one could take it away.

The only thing he worried about now was that Guan Bo had gone insane, yet neither the hospital nor Zhang Dewen had canceled the competition with Du Heng. He was afraid he might be made to compete against Du Heng. But he was very clear about his own abilities and Du Heng’s level; otherwise, he wouldn’t have given Guan Bo that kind of advice. If he were to compete, it would indeed be a great opportunity to become famous. But he lacked Guan Bo’s qualifications and skill. He had a very clear understanding of the gap between himself and Du Heng. Although he had the materials his girlfriend had stolen for him, he hadn’t had any time to look at them yet.

However, on second thought, he was just Zhang Dewen’s student, not a doctor at their hospital; he had the right to refuse. The only thing was, doing so might mean completely losing the chance to get into Luqi. But was that important? No, it wasn’t. As long as he could gain Zhang Dewen’s esteem, with Zhang Dewen’s connections, where in the world could he not go?

Feeling relieved, he followed Zhang Dewen to the Psychiatry Department.

The Psychiatry Department of a general hospital rarely admitted inpatients. Especially someone like Guan Bo, who could descend into madness at any moment, should have long been transferred to a specialized mental hospital and placed in a special ward. But because of Guan Bo’s special status, Tang Yinglong’s intervention, and out of consideration for Zhang Dewen, he was allowed to stay, in hopes of a miracle.

However, when the junior saw Guan Bo in the hospital room again, looking at how the once high-spirited Guan had become dull and was raving incessantly, he knew that by tomorrow at the latest, Guan would leave him, leave their Teacher, and leave Luqi. His destination could only be a mental hospital, a specially prepared, isolated room there.

The junior hid his emotions well; his face showed no sign of joy or happiness. If one looked closely, they might even see a hint of worry and tension.

Zhang Dewen stood at the door of the hospital room for a long while, finally letting out a soft sigh. He turned to go to the office of the Director of Psychiatry Department, intending to have another talk with him.

The junior followed closely behind, perfectly playing the part of a humble student. However, as he turned, his heart silently whispered, ”Farewell, my respected Guan.”

Zhang Dewen and the Director of Psychiatry Department were deeply engrossed in their detailed conversation, and an hour flew by in the blink of an eye.

Just as they were about to continue their discussion, the junior suddenly stepped forward and whispered, ”Teacher, Director He called. He said Doctor Du has arrived.”

Zhang Dewen swallowed the words he was about to say, sighed lightly, and stood up. ”Let’s go take a look.”

At this time, in Director Jia’s hospital room, Du Heng and Director He were talking quietly, discussing and exchanging ideas about the prevention and treatment of stroke patients.

As their conversation deepened, Director He’s smile broadened, and his tone became considerably more sincere. His eyes filled with an approval and admiration that almost overflowed.

This Doctor Du’s understanding of stroke, especially of post-stroke sequelae, is truly that of a master among masters! Although he didn’t quite understand or accept Du Heng’s treatment methods and medication, Director He highly concurred with his treatment philosophy.
