This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wang Zhenzhen rarely drove, so she was a bit nervous. Hearing Gong Daoyang’s question, she didn’t dare look back. She focused on the road and drove carefully, asking, ”What for? I thought you were always unwilling to go shopping with me?”

Gong Daoyang leaned back, staring intently at his wife’s side profile. ”We’ll go for a mountain climb, have a big meal at noon, and then I’ll go shopping with you in the afternoon to buy you some cosmetics and nutritional supplements. Honey, what do you think of my plan?”

Wang Zhenzhen glanced at Gong Daoyang and then immediately turned her gaze back to the road. ”Hey, did those gas fumes yesterday give you a sudden revelation? The old you was such an unromantic old fellow. What’s gotten into you today?”

Gong Daoyang’s face fell. ”Watch your words. Your man is in his prime; how could I be an old man?”

”Shameless!”

”So, are you going or not?”

”I’ll go.”

Gong Daoyang leaned back comfortably again; his head still felt a bit foggy and uncomfortable.

They had a very happy morning.

Wang Zhenzhen’s body couldn’t quite handle such strenuous mountain climbing anymore. When Gong Daoyang carried her on his back, her face was wreathed in smiles.

Descending the mountain, they found a protruding spot to look down from their high vantage point at Jinzhou’s bustling traffic. It was a moment of contentment they had never experienced.

”Honey, from now on, let’s take a break every month. We can take our children and parents mountain climbing to relax, alright?” Wang Zhenzhen suddenly felt emotional, softly asking Gong Daoyang beside her.

As she spoke, images of their next family outing—the children’s laughter, the gentle chatter of the elderly—had already formed in her mind.

However, after she finished speaking, she waited for a long time but heard no response from Gong Daoyang.

”Hey, Honey, what are you thinking about? What do you think of my suggestion?”

Wang Zhenzhen reached out to nudge Gong Daoyang. ”Our lives were too exhausting before. I don’t need you to be some high-ranking official now. Just be with me and our children, and I’ll be very happy.”

Nudged by Wang Zhenzhen, Gong Daoyang turned. However, his eyes were somewhat vacant, even a little dazed, as he just stared at her.

Wang Zhenzhen looked back at Gong Daoyang. When their gazes met, her heart clenched.

Gong Daoyang’s blank, empty gaze sent a shiver down her spine.

”Honey, what’s wrong with you? Please don’t scare me.”

Wang Zhenzhen reached out to grab Gong Daoyang’s arm, her voice trembling slightly.

When Wang Zhenzhen grabbed his arm, Gong Daoyang snapped back to his senses, a look of doubt in his eyes as he looked at the frightened Wang Zhenzhen. ”What’s wrong, dear?”

”What happened to you just now?” Wang Zhenzhen clung tightly to Gong Daoyang, afraid he would suddenly revert to his previous state.

A flicker of confusion crossed Gong Daoyang’s eyes. He didn’t know what Wang Zhenzhen was asking, nor could he recall what had just happened.

He quickly shook his head. ”It’s nothing. I must have just zoned out.”

Wang Zhenzhen carefully asked, ”Are you sure you’re alright?”

Gong Daoyang smiled, turned, and lifted Wang Zhenzhen onto his back. ”What could be wrong with me? Don’t let your imagination run wild.”

Feeling his warmth against her back, Wang Zhenzhen also dismissed her earlier doubts, telling herself she was just overthinking. Laughing, she brought up her earlier question again.

Along the way, their happy laughter and hopeful dreams for the future echoed once more.

When they arrived at the foot of the mountain, Gong Daoyang proactively took the driver’s seat and drove towards the restaurant he had booked. Today, he was determined to enjoy some quality alone time with Wang Zhenzhen.

BEEP.

BEEP.

BEEEEEEP.

Wang Zhenzhen looked at Gong Daoyang with confusion. ”Honey, drive. What are you thinking about?” Seeing the light had already turned green, Wang Zhenzhen gently urged him.

”Oh.” Gong Daoyang, as if jolted from a dream, slammed on the accelerator, and the car shot forward, leaving the chorus of impatient horns behind.

However, this time, Wang Zhenzhen paid closer attention, carefully watching Gong Daoyang as he drove.

Gong Daoyang glanced at Wang Zhenzhen and asked with a laugh, ”Why are you staring at me like that?”

Wang Zhenzhen smiled back in kind. ”Nothing, I just think you’re especially handsome today.”

”Got a crush on me?” Gong Daoyang teased. ”But you can only crush on me, okay?”

”Mm, of course.”

Seeing Gong Daoyang still capable of such smooth talk, Wang Zhenzhen felt she must have been too suspicious and relaxed once more.

At the restaurant, Gong Daoyang gentlemanly pulled out a chair for Wang Zhenzhen. ”Xiao Heng told me about this restaurant. He said the food is exceptionally delicious.”

He called a waiter over and handed Wang Zhenzhen the menu. ”Take a look, order whatever you want.”

Wang Zhenzhen smiled sweetly, looking very happy, but after glancing at the menu, she quickly whispered to Gong Daoyang, ”Honey, the dishes here are so expensive! A Yellow River Carp for 688 yuan! That’s daylight robbery!”

Gong Daoyang waved his hand magnanimously. ”Not at all. Order freely today; it’s my treat.”

”Let’s just forget it. This one meal would make my heart ache for days,” Wang Zhenzhen said, looking at the menu and starting to have second thoughts.

”Don’t worry and order,” Gong Daoyang reassured her with a look. ”Xiao Heng said he has a membership card here; we can get a 40% discount.”

”Wouldn’t that be awkward? Wouldn’t that mean we’re indebted to Xiao Heng?”

”Just go ahead and order. The owner here would probably be thrilled to owe Xiao Heng a small favor.”

He laughed and then stood up. ”Order whatever you like. I need to use the toilet.” Following the waiter’s guidance, Gong Daoyang headed to the toilet.

He went to the toilet, washed his hands, and came out of the bathroom.

However, as soon as he reached the Hall, Gong Daoyang froze, his eyes filled with utter confusion.

Where am I? What am I here for?

Gong Daoyang looked around, puzzled, but couldn’t remember how he had gotten here.

That’s right, Du Da was going to light the gas cylinder, to blow up his mother. Yes, I have to save people, I have to catch Du Da. But what am I doing here?

Gong Daoyang’s confusion deepened; for a moment, he didn’t know which way to go.

”Sir, can I help you with anything?”

Seeing Gong Daoyang standing dazed by the toilet entrance, blocking other patrons, a restaurant waiter approached and asked softly.

Gong Daoyang blinked a few times, looking confusedly at the waiter before him. ”Where is this?”

The waiter paused for a moment, then replied earnestly, ”This is the XX Restaurant, sir. You are the guest from Table 6. Your lover is over there, ordering.”

Gong Daoyang frowned. Restaurant? Eating? My lover?

Gong Daoyang tried hard to remember, but nothing came to mind.

Looking at Gong Daoyang’s furrowed brow and bewildered expression, the waiter felt a wave of apprehension, but adhering to professional conduct, he still said, ”Sir, let me take you to your table.”

Gong Daoyang didn’t refuse and followed the waiter to the table.

”Sir, this is your seat.” The waiter pointed to the seat, glanced at Gong Daoyang again, and then slowly backed away.

Wang Zhenzhen, seeing Gong Daoyang return, pushed the menu towards him and said with a conflicted expression, ”Honey, why don’t you order? Every dish is incredibly expensive; I simply don’t know how to order. You do it. I’ll eat whatever you pick.”

But Gong Daoyang didn’t respond to Wang Zhenzhen. Instead, he took a step back, pointed hesitantly at Wang Zhenzhen, then at himself, and asked, ”What did you call me?”

Wang Zhenzhen looked up, gazing at Gong Daoyang with a puzzled expression. ”Honey, of course. What else would I call you? Hurry up and sit down. Let’s order. This place you found is way too expensive.”

”I’m sorry. My lover is Wang Zhenzhen. I don’t know you. You’ve mistaken me for someone else,” Gong Daoyang said, shaking his head before turning to leave.

Wang Zhenzhen shot up from her seat, the bad premonition from before surging through her again. ”Honey, stop joking! I *am* Wang Zhenzhen!”

Gong Daoyang’s gaze went vacant for a moment. ”I’m sorry, I don’t have time to play games with you. I have a mission. Goodbye.”

”Gong Daoyang!” Wang Zhenzhen shouted, completely disregarding the startled looks from those around them. ”Gong Daoyang, don’t scare me!”

Gong Daoyang turned his head, his confusion even more profound. ”Ma’am, I’m not trying to scare you. You’ve genuinely mistaken me for someone else. I’m not your husband, and I have an urgent mission right now.”

After saying that, Gong Daoyang turned to leave.

But as he had just turned, his body pitched forward. His legs, however, seemed welded to the ground, neither turning nor lifting. Then, with a THUD, he fell flat on the ground.

His head even hit the floor and bounced slightly.

”Honey!”

Wang Zhenzhen was horrified. She screamed as she rushed over, immediately cradling Gong Daoyang from the floor. ”Honey, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me!” she cried out.

But no matter how she yelled or shook him, Gong Daoyang remained unresponsive.

The waiter from before had already rushed over. ”Ma’am, do you need me to call 120?”

”Call, call quickly! My husband is a police officer! He was injured saving someone yesterday—gas poisoning! Waaaaah...”

Wang Zhenzhen was nearly hysterical, clutching Gong Daoyang in her arms, completely at a loss.

Amidst her sobs, Gong Daoyang regained consciousness, his eyes opening to stare blankly at the weeping Wang Zhenzhen.

At this moment, other waiters also hurried over, crouching down to look at the two of them. ”Sir, are you alright?”

The words had barely been spoken when Gong Daoyang suddenly lunged, twisting out of Wang Zhenzhen’s arms. He grabbed the waiter and pinned him underneath. ”Someone, quick! I’ve got him under control... under control...”

Gong Daoyang suddenly stared blankly at the waiter beneath him. He couldn’t remember what he was trying to do, or who he was trying to subdue.

The waiter beneath him was petrified. Seeing Gong Daoyang dazed, he shoved him off, scrambled away, and then stared at Gong Daoyang in terror.

Wang Zhenzhen, terrified, scrambled forward on her knees, grabbing Gong Daoyang’s arm. ”Honey, honey, please say something! What’s wrong with you?” she cried.
