This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Now we have to see a traditional Chinese medicine doctor. As long as you’re willing to step in, Sir Zhang, crushing that brat will only take a moment.”

After saying this, Director He saw that Zhang Dewen was still hesitating and unwilling to commit, so he immediately continued, ”Although we’re from the same hospital and should unite against external threats, we are, after all, Western medicine practitioners, not part of the same system. Even if Du Heng, this kid, tramples on us, the impact won’t be significant.

However, if the Chinese Medicine Department, led by you, Sir Zhang, can’t withstand a challenge from an outsider from another region, and you just watch your own hospital’s department get trampled on... well, that wouldn’t reflect well on you.

Moreover, we have to consider the patient’s health. I can’t just block others from treating the patient, can I?

The most crucial point is that this kid actually signed a youth exchange agreement with the higher-ups, and our hospital is his designated exchange workplace. If you can’t handle him, Sir Zhang, then I’ll have no grounds to refuse him.”

Zhang Dewen was in a terrible mood. His proudest student was now having a breakdown in the Psychiatry Department, yet the trouble he’d caused continued to escalate.

What’s more, this Du Heng was audacious, actually daring to come to our door and issue a challenge.

But one couldn’t deny his methods were clever.

He chose a stroke patient from the Neurology Department, a Department of Western Medicine, thereby sidestepping a direct confrontation with myself or the Chinese Medicine Department. Yet, he still managed to stage a small contest and throw down the gauntlet.

A patient falling ill can be a coincidence, but choosing which hospital to be admitted to, and the timing of that admission... Zhang Dewen felt that was no coincidence at all.

Zhang Dewen detested Du Heng’s mind and the people behind the scenes who helped orchestrate it all.

Young men can have harmless competitions, but they shouldn’t resort to so many little minds!

At the same time, he also admired Du Heng’s courage in coming to their door alone. This indicated Du Heng, the kid, possessed some genuine skill.

If he were a fraud, who would dare attempt such a thing?

Unable to withstand Director He’s expectant gaze any longer, Zhang Dewen finally stood up. ”Alright, let’s go. I’ll take a look at this patient first.”

Director He beamed. ”Excellent, Sir Zhang! I’ll take you there right away.”

In the hospital room, the crowd visiting Director Jia had grown, but Du Heng had already departed.

Seeing the room was too crowded, Director He raised his voice, ”Everyone else, please wait outside. We need to give the patient a check-up.”

RUMBLE! A throng of people was ushered out, leaving only Director Jia’s wife and Li Qin.

The two women, however, were accustomed to such disruptions by now and showed no surprise.

This pattern had started this morning, ever since they’d asked Director He to find another doctor for Director Jia and he’d learned who they had in mind.

First, Director He had brought a group of people who performed a brief check-up and then left without a word.

Later, Director He returned twice with staff from the Neurosurgery Department, or perhaps some other department, but they too left without comment.

After that, Director He brought several elderly traditional Chinese medicine doctors, including the TCM doctor they had seen the previous night. They departed after finally stating, ”At least three months.”

Now, he had brought an even older man, but the two women were not surprised at all. They simply stood quietly to one side, awaiting this old man’s assessment.

Under everyone’s gaze, Zhang Dewen slowly finished the check-up. After closing his eyes in thought for a moment, he announced, ”The disease is liver fire attacking the Heart. It’s treatable. However, the patient has already suffered a stroke, so recuperation will take time—at least two months.”

With a confident expression, he looked at Director He and said, ”I’ll write up a house later. Just follow my house for treatment, and you can stop your current medicine.”

Having said this, Zhang Dewen intended to leave. He was still worried about his beloved student and anxious to find a way to treat him.

But Director He suddenly caught his arm. ”Sir Zhang, perhaps take another look?”

Zhang Dewen paused, asking doubtfully, ”The disease is clear. What else is there to see?”

Director He whispered, ”It’s just... could it be any faster?”

”Faster?” Zhang Dewen’s face darkened. ”Xiao He, you’re an experienced doctor. How can you say something so irresponsible?

A patient’s recovery speed is determined by the severity of their condition itself. Can you just order it to speed up?

Do you think this is like a journey, where if you find the car too slow, you can just switch to an airplane?

Utter nonsense!”

Director He was so thoroughly berated by Zhang Dewen that he couldn’t even lift his head.

But this wasn’t Zhang Dewen’s fault; it was Director He who hadn’t spoken clearly.

”Sir Zhang, I didn’t make myself clear,” Director He quickly interjected. ”It’s Doctor Du Heng. He assured the patient’s family that three doses of his medicine would be enough for the patient to recover.”

As he spoke, he held up three fingers and waved them in front of Zhang Dewen.

He means three doses, just three doses, can cure the patient!

No wonder the family wouldn’t be willing to wait two months for your treatment.

”Preposterous! Who dares claim a stroke can be cured with just three doses of medicine?” Zhang Dewen’s expression grew even darker. ”Stroke is inherently difficult to treat. Many patients cannot be cured at all, or the effects of treatment are negligible. The number of patients who can be fully cured is very small.

That this patient can be cured is already a rarity. For Du Heng, as a doctor, to claim he can do it in three doses... Where are his professional ethics? His professional conduct?”

Li Qin was the first to take offense at these words.

Du Heng was her friend, the one she had asked to help with the treatment.

Now that Du Heng was being questioned and so harshly berated, it felt as if she herself were being insulted.

How could she tolerate that?

”Old sir, may I ask if you know Doctor Du Heng?”

”We’ve met once.”

”You just said stroke is very difficult to treat. Do you know how many stroke patients Doctor Du Heng has successfully treated?”

Zhang Dewen was momentarily stunned by the question.

His knowledge of Du Heng was, in fact, quite limited.

The first time they met, because Du Heng mentioned reading his articles, he had a somewhat favorable impression. But subsequent events had made him lose interest in the young man.

Since then, he hadn’t had the time to learn more about Du Heng.

It was only last night, when he was rushing back but missed the last airplane, that he’d asked his junior colleague to gather some information on Du Heng.

He was the Dean of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, so presumably skilled in gynecology and pediatrics. This was confirmed by online videos showing his treatment of over thirty pediatric patients with cerebral palsy.

Then there were the highly discussed tumor cases, and Lan Changhua’s recommendation, which indicated this young man also had some ability in treating tumors.

There were also other internal medicine diagnoses seen in short videos. However, for an Internal Medicine Doctor of Chinese Medicine, a Master like himself, these weren’t particularly noteworthy.

He merely felt this young man had a solid foundation and an acceptable level of skill.

But regarding stroke treatment, he really wasn’t very clear.

Seeing Zhang Dewen remain silent, Li Qin said directly, ”To date, Doctor Du has successfully treated over a thousand stroke patients. He also has a provincial-level subject on stroke, and this subject is currently in application for... for...”

”A provincial level project,” Director Jia’s wife quietly reminded her from the side.

”Yes, applying for a provincial level project, and it’s about to be approved!” Li Qin stared at Zhang Dewen. ”Old sir, do you still think Doctor Du is talking nonsense about stroke treatment?”

Zhang Dewen muttered, ”Over a thousand people? That many?” He turned to look at Director He.

Director He nodded quickly. ”I only found out this morning after asking someone to check the materials. I assumed you already knew, Sir Zhang.”

Seeing the old man’s face flush, Director He felt a surge of indignation himself.

Du Heng was practically a rival to both this old man and Guan Bo, yet the old man knew nothing about him!

What did that signify?

It was disdain! He hadn’t taken Du Heng seriously at all!

Now that things had come to this, it could only be blamed on the old man’s own arrogance.

Zhang Dewen suddenly found it a bit difficult to breathe. He straightened up and took two deep breaths. ”Xiao He, when Doctor Du arrives, please inform me. I’d like to observe Doctor Du’s treatment myself.”
