This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

He must be made to take a needless trip tomorrow. When he comes eagerly for the match, I’ll tell him directly that the match is canceled, and then see what kind of face he makes.

Du Heng didn’t know about his junior’s thoughts.

He had just refused Li Qin’s dinner invitation and went straight back to the hotel to see Kang Zhirong. Wu Shengnan was also in the hotel, and she hadn’t eaten either.

Li Qin didn’t insist. She quickly left after agreeing to have dinner together once Director Jia was better.

Today, Director Jia was sick. It should have been a leisurely time for the film crew, but for some reason, it became the busiest time.

Li Qin was the busiest of them all because she not only had to handle her own affairs but also help Feng Su build connections.

So, Li Qin left in a hurry.

Of course, Du Heng didn’t care. He wasn’t a fan of such dinner invitations anyway.

Returning to Kang Zhirong’s room, Du Heng smiled and asked, ”Xiao Kang, how are you feeling? Can you get up now?”

”I can get up, but it still hurts a bit.”

Wu Shengnan chuckled and said, ”Let it hurt. Today, Xiao Kang’s compensation was negotiated. Because it involved Qinqin’s car, the tour company was very cooperative and directly compensated Xiao Kang with 12,000 yuan.”

Du Heng also laughed. ”Survived a great catastrophe, good fortune is sure to follow. You even earned some money this time.”

Kang Zhirong looked sadly at the two of them. ”Bro, I don’t want this money. I just want to return home to Jinzhou safe and sound.”

Du Heng directly ignored Kang Zhirong’s whining. ”Isn’t this what you wanted? Gawking at those young assistants until you were tripping over your own feet, showing off recklessly in front of them? Serves you right.”

Kang Zhirong buried his face in the pillow. ”I was just momentarily bewitched. Bro, don’t tell anyone when we get back, or I’ll really be too ashamed to face anyone.”

Du Heng found Kang Zhirong’s shame both exasperating and amusing.

Seeing Kang Zhirong’s embarrassment, Wu Shengnan laughed and helped him out, ”By the way, do you know how the car accident happened?”

Du Heng looked at Kang Zhirong, shook his head, and decided to let the kid off the hook. ”When the accident happened, I saw an older woman grabbing the driver’s steering wheel. Was that it?”

Wu Shengnan nodded. ”Indeed, an older woman was fighting the driver for the steering wheel. But do you know why she was grabbing it?”

”How would we know?” Du Heng shook his head. ”I don’t know.”

Kang Zhirong also looked up at Wu Shengnan curiously, waiting for her to give a very surprising answer.

Wu Shengnan said slowly, ”This older woman got a fortune slip at the temple in the tourist area. Halfway through the trip, she felt she’d been cheated and demanded the driver turn back. She wanted to get her money back for the fortune slip interpretation.”

”The driver refused, and the tour guide also disagreed. So the older woman and her group of elderly friends attacked the tour guide and grabbed the driver’s steering wheel.”

Du Heng wasn’t surprised by the reason, but he was surprised that the woman had accomplices.

One person being brain-damaged is understandable, but a whole group of them? That’s rare.

Kang Zhirong hesitantly asked, ”Was she cheated out of a lot of money?”

”10 yuan.”

”10 yuan?”

Now, even Du Heng was surprised.

Wu Shengnan sighed. ”At the temples here, paying for the fortune slip interpretation is voluntary. You can give five yuan or a hundred yuan. Even if you don’t give anything, they won’t chase you for it.”

Kang Zhirong shook his head. ”For just ten yuan, she nearly got a whole busload of people killed. She must be crazy! Now she’ll probably have to pay tens of thousands of yuan in compensation.”

Wu Shengnan also shook her head. ”Right now, she, the instigator, is perfectly fine, but three people are seriously injured and hospitalized. Plus, when I went to the traffic police department today, I heard from the officers that those older women didn’t cooperate with the police station’s investigation. They caused a scene at the police station and even scratched the faces of two police officers.”

Du Heng, feeling helpless, said dismissively, ”They’re hopeless. Let’s not talk about them anymore.”

He then turned to Kang Zhirong. ”Xiao Kang, tomorrow I need you to follow me with a camera. Can you do that?”

Kang Zhirong, hearing it was work-related, immediately perked up. ”Dean, no problem! I’ll definitely complete the task tomorrow.”

Tsk, tsk. As soon as work is mentioned, this kid changes his address, calling me Dean instead of ’Bro’.

Wu Shengnan, however, looked at Du Heng suspiciously. ”This doesn’t seem like your style. Are you worried about something?”

Du Heng sighed and said slowly, ”I’ve learned from two sources that Guan Bo had a sudden medical emergency, so whether or not he can participate in tomorrow’s competition is uncertain. But I still haven’t received any notification that the competition is canceled. So, I’m afraid they might wait until I arrive tomorrow to tell me the competition is canceled, just to mess with me. It’s one thing if they mess with me, but if they do this, they’d also be making fools of Director Zhuo and the others who helped me with the formalities. That’s unacceptable. Moreover, people following this online don’t know the specifics, so it would become a situation where we have valid reasons but can’t make them clear. So, it’s better to be prepared. Otherwise, it will become an inexplicable mess.”

Wu Shengnan still seemed skeptical. ”You’re overthinking it. Guan Bo is Zhang Dewen’s student. Even if Guan Bo is sick and can’t compete, there’s still Sir Zhang Dewen, right? He’s a respected guru with the title of National Medical Master. Would he do something so classless?”

Du Heng didn’t comment on this. Especially after recalling what happened that afternoon, he was somewhat skeptical of Zhang Dewen.

Wu Shengnan continued, ”Besides, Luqi is a nationally famous hospital. They wouldn’t resort to such low-brow tactics, would they?”

”Luqi is a big, well-known hospital, but that doesn’t mean everyone there is a person of high moral character.” Du Heng glanced at Wu Shengnan and said lightly, ”Otherwise, they wouldn’t have produced someone like Guan Bo, who just stirs up trouble.”

Wu Shengnan didn’t say much more after that. She quietly left the room and ordered takeout for the three of them, leaving Du Heng and Kang Zhirong in the room to discuss the details.

「Early the next morning.」

Du Heng, Wu Shengnan, and Kang Zhirong got ready and went to Luqi again. However, their first stop was still the provincial Neurology Department.

When they saw Director Jia again, he was already up and walking around, though he still needed to hold onto something for support.

”Doctor Du, you’re here! Have a seat.” Director Jia greeted Du Heng enthusiastically and immediately asked his wife to bring some pastries and other refreshments.

Du Heng refused with a smile and asked Director Jia to lie down on the bed first. ”Director Jia, I have something to do today and can’t stay long. I’ll do a quick check-up for you, just to be sure.”

Director Jia had overheard Du Heng’s conversation the previous day and had even looked into the matter online the night before, so he understood when Du Heng said he had things to do. He immediately had his wife help him onto the bed, where he lay down obediently.

”Director Jia, are you still experiencing any numbness?” Seeing that he still needed assistance, Du Heng asked softly.

Director Jia replied with a smile, ”The numbness is gone, but I still feel a bit weak. I’m also a little anxious, so I let my lover help me.”

Du Heng nodded. He had been worried his diagnosis was off, and that Director Jia’s numbness hadn’t actually subsided.

After the examination, Du Heng found that there was no significant deviation from his assessment the previous day. He stood up straight and said, ”Director Jia, your recovery is going very well. Once the medicine is delivered later, just continue taking it as prescribed.”

Director Jia was overjoyed. ”Then, Doctor Du, when can I be discharged?”

”I can’t make that decision. You’ll have to ask Director He.”

”What is it you need to ask me?”

Just as Du Heng finished speaking, Director He’s hearty voice sounded from behind him.

”Good morning, Director He.” Du Heng turned and greeted him.

Director He entered the hospital room with a broad smile, accompanied by his junior. ”Good morning, Doctor Du. You’re here so early, it makes me, the director, feel a bit embarrassed.”

”Director He, you’re joking. As you know, I have an ’appointment’ with Doctor Guan from the Chinese Medicine Department today.”
