This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The mockery from their peers and the abuse from ten million netizens were enough to make them want to shove their heads down their pants.

”Doctor Du, don’t be in such a hurry. Please stay, please stay,” Director He hurriedly stopped Du Heng, then turned to his junior with a gloomy face and said, ”Are you going to say it, or shall I?”

Seeing Du Heng’s aggressive stance, the junior was rather intimidated and could only brace himself to say, ”Doctor Du, my teacher asked me to inform you that the contest between you and Guan has been canceled.”

Du Heng’s eyes widened in extreme anger. ”Canceled? You’re telling me it’s canceled right before the contest?”

Du Heng’s voice grew louder and louder. If they weren’t in a hospital room, it might have been even louder.

”You’re the ones who wanted to compete, and you’re the ones canceling it—at the last second before it starts, no less! Are you making fun of me? My ten million fans are waiting for news of my victory. How am I supposed to explain this to them?”

Watching the furious Du Heng and hearing his shouts, the junior slowly took a step back.

From the moment he saw the camera, he knew Du Heng had come prepared and would pull a stunt like this.

”Doctor Du, I’ve informed you of the situation. Please arrange your time as you see fit,” the junior said, then intended to turn and leave the hospital room immediately.

But, as ill luck would have it, just as he opened the door, Li Qin and Feng Su were also pushing it open to enter, effectively forcing the junior back inside.

Li Qin, momentarily taken aback by the junior blocking the doorway, quickly asked, ”Du, what are you doing? I could hear your voice all the way down the corridor.”

Ignoring Li Qin, Du Heng stubbornly insisted, ”What do you mean by this? Couldn’t you have said something earlier? Did you have to wait until now? Are you playing games with me? I don’t believe it! I’m going to find Sir Zhang right now and demand an explanation for this! No matter how powerful your hospital is, you can’t bully people like this!”

Du Heng blustered fiercely, but his feet didn’t move an inch. He could see the junior was feeling guilty and schemed to pry some information out of him.

Du Heng’s words were harsh enough to make Director He choke for a moment.

Just as he was about to say something, Director Jia suddenly shouted from the sickbed, ”Is this a case of a big shop bullying its customers? Doctor Du is an honest and decent man. He came here today by invitation, acting in good faith. But what you’re doing is bullying an honest person! Although I’m not famous, if Doctor Du doesn’t get a fair response today, I’ll speak out for him online too!”

Saying this, he glanced at Du Heng; it was his way of returning the favor.

Feng Su had entered after Li Qin, but as soon as Director Jia finished speaking, even without knowing the details, she immediately chimed in, ”President Du is an exceptionally skilled and virtuous doctor, and he saved my life. I can’t stand by and watch President Du be humiliated in front of me! If this matter isn’t resolved satisfactorily today, I’ll have to appeal to my several million fans to seek justice for President Du!”

Hearing the declarations from Director Jia and Feng Su, before the junior and Director He could react, Li Qin was completely dumbfounded.

She looked at Feng Su, utterly speechless. You don’t even know what’s going on, and you want to seek justice? Just to show off, huh?

But since her best friend and the director had both spoken up, it wouldn’t look right if she, Du Heng’s actual friend, didn’t take a stand. She was definitely going to, it was just that her ability to seize an opportunity wasn’t as quick as Feng Su’s.

So, after giving Feng Su a slight glare, Li Qin also stated her position, ”I won’t say much, but I won’t let my friend be wronged. That’s not happening.”

Director He had just been thinking of speaking up for his junior, but now, he took a step back. ”You guys handle it.”

One Du Heng with ten million fans—you might look down on him, think he’s just an internet celebrity, fine. But what about Director Jia, Li Qin, and Feng Su? They’re all genuine celebrities; their social influence is quite different from internet celebrities. Now they’ve all stated their positions. This humble provincial department of mine can’t withstand the backlash from so many fans. It’s best to quietly back down.

Director He’s retreat, however, left the junior completely exposed. But even if Director He hadn’t abandoned him, the junior wouldn’t dare run now.

Du Heng had said he was going to find Zhang Dewen to seek justice. If Du Heng were to appear before Zhang Dewen, pointing at his face and demanding an explanation, then his own little schemes from last night would be exposed. The reputation of the old man and the Chinese Medicine Department would be trampled, and all his own aspirations would come to nothing.

At this point, the junior suddenly realized that his biggest enemy was no longer Guan Bo, but this Du Heng, who was proving to be far more difficult to handle than Guan Bo. Especially when he remembered that it was his idea for Guan Bo to provoke Du Heng in the first place, he felt like slapping himself twice.

But it was too late for slapping himself now. The most important thing was to persuade Du Heng to back down.

Having figured this out, the junior quickly returned to Du Heng’s side. ”Doctor Du, please don’t be angry. My teacher absolutely had no intention of tricking you.”

Du Heng was relentless. ”If it’s not a trick, then tell me: why did your side suddenly cancel the competition right when it was about to start?”

The junior grimaced. Looking at Du Heng’s furious expression, he felt that if his answer wasn’t good, Du Heng might genuinely charge straight to the old man. ”The reason for the cancellation is simple: my senior brother, Guan Bo, suddenly fell ill and can’t make it.”

Du Heng’s eyebrows twitched. He then asked, ”Nonsense! What illness could be so severe that he can’t even attend the competition? Besides, even if he’s not competing, shouldn’t he be the one to tell me? No, I have to go find him and ask him clearly. He’s taking me for a fool!”

Seeing Du Heng’s eagerness to leave, the junior was terrified and hurriedly stopped him, saying, ”Doctor Du, my senior brother Guan really can’t come, because... because...”

”Because of what?”

”Because... he’s gone mad!”

As soon as the junior finished speaking, Du Heng scoffed. ”Are you joking? A perfectly healthy person suddenly goes mad, and it just happens to be today? Don’t you think that excuse is too ridiculous? No, I have to go find him and ask him face-to-face.”

The junior once again blocked the agitated Du Heng, quickly explaining, ”Doctor Du, it’s not what you think! Guan Bo suddenly fell ill yesterday at noon. This can be verified in the hospital’s Emergency Department records.”

Du Heng looked puzzled. ”That doesn’t add up. Given your hospital’s capabilities and Sir Zhang’s level of skill, they should have known by yesterday afternoon at the latest whether this illness could be cured. Or, at the very least, whether it could be cured in a short period. Why wait until today, until this very moment, to tell me?”

Seeing Du Heng’s attitude soften, the junior quickly said, ”I’m sorry, Doctor Du, it’s my fault. My teacher asked me to inform you last night. But my phone broke, so I could only come and tell you this morning.”

Du Heng suddenly laughed, looking straight into the junior’s eyes. ”Are you looking down on me?”

That single sentence made the hair on the back of the junior’s neck stand on end. Especially seeing Kang Zhirong’s camera, he knew he had to explain this clearly. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to withstand the cyberbullying from ten million netizens.

”Doctor Du, why would you say that? I never had such a thought.”

”Heh,” Du Heng chuckled. ”Your phone was broken, so you couldn’t borrow someone else’s? Besides, it seems none of you even have my contact information. So, does it really matter if your phone was broken or not? Tell me, if that isn’t looking down on me, what is?”

The junior hastily tried to explain, ”Doctor Du, you really misunderstand. I truly don’t have such intentions, I...”

He wanted to explain further, but Du Heng suddenly waved his hand. ”There’s no need for explanations; it’s unnecessary. After all, you’re not the main character in this affair. So, I still need to go see Doctor Guan and find out if what you’re saying is true.”

The junior hesitated. ”Doctor Du, you don’t believe us?”

”Is there any basis for trust between us?” Du Heng countered directly. ”Besides, are you implying you don’t want me to visit Doctor Guan? Even out of common decency, there shouldn’t be a problem with me visiting him, should there?”
