This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng thought for a moment and replied, ”Is it very sticky, like a gluey substance?”

Hearing Du Heng’s description, Wang Zhenzhen quickly nodded, ”Yes, yes, that’s exactly what it looks like. Xiao Heng, is this situation normal?”

Du Heng chuckled, ”Of course it’s normal.”

He continued lightly, ”I’ve already said that my brother Gong’s problem is due to Phlegm Turbidity obstructing his heart orifices. What we need to do is to reduce the heat and expel the phlegm. Reducing the heat is easy; we just need to cool the blood. But where should we expel the phlegm to? The only way is to let it go down with the qi and be expelled with the stool. This is a normal situation, and this phenomenon should continue for a few days. Once Gong’s stool returns to normal, he should wake up.”

At this, Wang Zhenzhen felt more at ease, and a faint smile finally appeared on her face as she watched Gong Daoyang.

However, by today, Wang Zhenzhen had not been home for four days. Du Heng offered to help at night, but Wang Zhenzhen still declined.

But thinking of the two one-month-old babies at home, Du Heng still insisted that Wang Zhenzhen go home first, check on the children, and ease the minds of the elderly in the family. If she continued hiding like this, the elders would certainly become suspicious.

Wang Zhenzhen had long wanted to go home, especially missing her two newborn babies, but Gong Daoyang’s condition indeed needed constant care. She felt guilty for calling Du Heng back from afar just for Gong Daoyang, and now letting Du Heng take her place would make her feel even worse.

”Sis, just do as I say. Go home quickly, check on the children and the elderly, and let everyone in the family rest easy.”

”But… but…” Wang Zhenzhen was extremely conflicted. In the end, she still couldn’t bring herself to agree and, shaking her head, was about to refuse Du Heng.

At this time, the police officer from the police station who had been silent on the side spoke up, ”Sister-in-law, just listen to President Du and go home. I can take care of Director Gong here. Instructor Huang has given me a strict order to take care of Director Gong.”

Du Heng quickly went along with the police officer’s words, ”Sis, why don’t you just do as this young man suggested? I’ll also speak to the nurse here and ask her to help him keep an eye on things. Would that be alright?”

Wang Zhenzhen was still a little hesitant, not yet sure what to do, when the police officer who had spoken changed his target, ”President Du, I haven’t found a partner yet. If you’re making arrangements, could you find someone who’s also single for me?”

Du Heng didn’t know if he was serious or not, but seeing his embarrassed expression, Du Heng thought there was some truth to it. ”Alright. Gong treats me like his own brother. Liu Gong—Old Liu—from your station is also my classmate, and quite a few others there are my high school alumni too. I will definitely help you with your situation. Now, I’ll go and ask around for you, act as your matchmaker. However, I can only create the opportunity; you’ll have to make an effort on your own. What do you think?”

The police officer quickly expressed his gratitude, ”President Du, whether it works out or not, from now on, you’re my brother. If there’s anything I can help with, just let me know. By the way, my surname is Zeng, Zeng Shengwu, 24 years old, and I’m from our Shanghu District.”

Du Heng also laughed, ”Alright, just for you calling me ’brother,’ I’ll find you a partner.”

”Thank you, Brother Du,” Zeng Shengwu grinned, looking a little embarrassed.

Du Heng turned to Wang Zhenzhen and smiled, ”Sis, you’re his sister-in-law; you should give this young man a chance. Brother Gong’s recovery period these few days is practically creating an opportunity for Officer Zeng here. As his sister-in-law, you can’t just take that away, can you?”

Wang Zhenzhen hesitated and said, ”I can watch them talk, too.”

”Sis, if you’re always watching Brother Gong, how will Xiao Zeng get a chance to ask the nurse questions or get to know her? You’re blocking all his opportunities.”

Zeng Shengwu quickly chimed in, ”Sister-in-law, Brother Du is right. He’s giving me a chance, so you should too.”

Seeing the two of them team up to persuade her, and noticing Xiao Zeng’s palpable eagerness, Wang Zhenzhen reluctantly nodded, ”Fine, I’ll trouble Xiao Zeng tonight, and I’ll come earlier tomorrow morning.”

Hearing Wang Zhenzhen finally agree, Du Heng breathed a sigh of relief. He was really afraid that Gong Daoyang would wake up in a few days, only for Wang Zhenzhen to become bedridden.

After arranging Gong Daoyang’s matters, Du Heng went home early. ”Baby, is everything ready?”

At home, Wu Shengnan was busy getting ready. Hearing Du Heng’s words, she quickly finished up. ”Everything is prepared, but My Dad told us to go directly to Grandpa’s house. He and my mom will head there after work. Oh, my brother and sister-in-law are coming too. My brother sent me a message asking you to take another look at him.”

Du Heng glanced around the house, found the gifts Wu Shengnan had prepared, picked them up with both hands, and waited for Wu Shengnan to leave together. ”Has your sister-in-law not gotten pregnant yet?”

Wu Shengnan picked up her bag, hurriedly walked to Du Heng’s side, and took two of the gifts. ”My sister-in-law said they’re still actively trying for a baby. They’re waiting for your go-ahead. She said if you tell them it’s okay to have a child now, they’ll start trying.”

Du Heng’s mouth twitched as he suppressed a sarcastic remark and agreed. If his father-in-law heard that his brother-in-law needed his permission to have a baby, he’d probably turn black with anger.

The two chatted casually on their way to her Grandpa’s house. They had a peaceful meal, during which Du Heng checked on his brother-in-law and told him it was alright to start trying for a baby. At that, his brother-in-law’s smile bloomed brilliantly, like a thousand-layered chrysanthemum. Even his normally stoic sister-in-law revealed a shy smile.

「After dinner」

Wu Shengnan began making arrangements for their trip back to the mountain and their meeting with her big brother and sister-in-law.

”Honey, you shouldn’t have work tomorrow, right? Let’s leave in the morning. I’ve already packed everything. Oh, and I asked my brother to arrange a meeting with a leader from the Shanghu District Education Bureau to discuss Du Yi’s transfer. You should mention this to Big Brother tomorrow, so he doesn’t end up scrambling for help at the last minute when the next semester begins.”

Du Heng pursed his lips, thought for a moment, then said, ”I’ll have to stop by the hospital tomorrow morning to check on my friend, but it won’t take long. Then we can head back up the mountain together.”

”Sounds good,” Wu Shengnan nodded, looking over the prepared items with satisfaction. ”We have plenty of time, no rush.”

True to his word, Du Heng visited Gong Daoyang in the morning. After redoing the check-up and confirming his continued recovery, Du Heng skipped going to his office and went straight downstairs to his car, ready to head home, but the Secretary was one step ahead.

Just as he was about to start the car and leave, the Secretary appeared. ”Dean, are you leaving? I have something to discuss with you.”

Du Heng awkwardly glanced at Wu Shengnan, who chuckled, ”If you have something to do, go take care of it. We’re not in a hurry.”

Du Heng let out a sigh of relief and quickly got out of the car. ”Secretary, what’s going on?”

The Secretary took a small step forward and whispered, ”I heard, Dean, that you canceled the partnership with the Second Affiliated Hospital of JZU yesterday?”

Du Heng nodded directly. ”That’s right. Their Chinese Medicine Department isn’t up to par. Even their own doctors don’t respect it. How could I cooperate with them? I have to prioritize our patients.”

Like the others, the Secretary was momentarily taken aback by Du Heng’s blunt and unreserved emotional expression, finding it difficult to adapt. But he understood that the good Dean, who once had to consider others’ feelings so carefully, had matured. He had grown to a point where he no longer wanted or needed to care about what others thought.

The Secretary quickly swallowed the words he had been about to say. Reorganizing his thoughts, he said, ”The Director of the Chinese Medicine Department at the Second Affiliated Hospital approached Professor Li last night. Professor Li then called me. He asked me to inquire about your intentions, Dean—would you be willing to meet their Director and discuss the matter again?”

As soon as the Secretary finished speaking, Du Heng made up his mind: He would not meet.
