This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wang Zhenzhen’s eyes instantly welled with tears. Her gaze wavered, and her words trembled as she spoke, ”Husband~~, you... you’re awake?”

”Awake?” Gong Daoyang’s eyes held a trace of confusion as he asked doubtfully, ”What happened to me?”

Just those simple words caused Wang Zhenzhen’s tears to fall like pearls from a broken string, landing heavily on Gong Daoyang’s outstretched hand. She was so choked with emotion that she couldn’t utter a single word.

This thoroughly alarmed Gong Daoyang. Flustered, he reached out to wipe away his wife’s tears.

But at that moment, he also realized something else: his other arm was intensely numb. The numbness felt as if he had stepped into an anthill in the mountains, or as if he were gripping a live electrical wire.

Gong Daoyang panicked. His last memory was of him and his wife ordering food at a high-class restaurant, enjoying their blissful world for two.

But... what on earth had happened?

Zeng Shengwu, standing nearby, was also dumbfounded. It’s a good thing he’s regained consciousness, but why is one crying herself breathless while the other looks completely stunned?

He quickly stepped forward, placed a stool beneath Wang Zhenzhen, and helped her sit. ”Sister-in-law, it’s a wonderful thing that Director Gong is awake. Please, try to control your emotions.”

After speaking to Wang Zhenzhen, he immediately turned his gaze to Gong Daoyang. ”Director Gong, that day you and Sister-in-law went to eat...”

Seeing Wang Zhenzhen still lost in her tears and Gong Daoyang looking utterly bewildered, Zeng Shengwu quickly recounted the events of that day and everything that had happened over the past few days.

When he had finished, Gong Daoyang looked at Wang Zhenzhen, his eyes filled with tenderness and apology. ”My dear, don’t cry. I’m alright now. Besides, Xiao Heng said he can cure me, so he definitely can. There, there, don’t cry anymore. You won’t be pretty if you keep crying.”

Wang Zhenzhen seemed to turn a deaf ear to Gong Daoyang’s comforting words; she just wanted to have a good, long cry.

Her husband had been so ill. At home, there were two newborn babies, a school-aged child, and four elderly parents. And she herself had only just finished her confinement. This past week had felt like an entire year. She absolutely had to release all this pent-up emotion.

However, emotions eventually run their course. Wang Zhenzhen retained a sliver of rationality; she knew this wasn’t the right place to wail uncontrollably and didn’t dare to cry too loudly. After about two minutes, her choked sobs gradually subsided into quiet weeping, and she remembered to wipe her tears.

”Husband, how are you feeling now?” Wang Zhenzhen wiped her tears, her first words as soon as she could speak filled with concern for Gong Daoyang’s condition.

Gong Daoyang had wanted to say that his other arm was very numb and that he felt he couldn’t control his leg either. But seeing Wang Zhenzhen still sniffling, he changed his tune. ”I’m fine. I feel great, my dear.”

He even managed a smile as he spoke. ”Look, I recognize you, my dear, and I can remember other things too. I’m perfectly fine now.”

”Who says they’re perfectly fine?”

Scarcely had Gong Daoyang’s voice faded when Du Heng, dressed in a white gown, walked into the hospital room with a beaming smile.

”Xiao Heng.”

”President Du.”

Du Heng smiled and nodded at them both in greeting, then walked to Gong Daoyang’s side. Looking into Gong Daoyang’s eyes, which were now full of spirit, Du Heng chuckled. ”Gong, have you rested well these past couple of days?”

Gong Daoyang quickly looked at Du Heng, a wry smile touching his lips as his gaze shifted to Wang Zhenzhen.

Du Heng laughed heartily. ”Gong, you’ve had a good sleep these past few days, but my sister hasn’t slept well at all. You’ll have to make it up to her.”

”I will, I will. I’ll definitely make it up to her.”

”That’s more like it. My sister’s tears these past few days weren’t shed in vain. Oh, right, Xiao Zeng should also take a couple of days off. He pulled several all-nighters keeping you company.”

Seeing Gong Daoyang just nodding, Du Heng turned to Wang Zhenzhen with a smile. ”Sister, what do you think? I said three days, and it was three days. From your behavior these last two days, it seemed you didn’t quite trust me, eh?”

After the lighthearted joke made everyone relax a bit, Du Heng turned back to Gong Daoyang. ”Gong, how are you feeling now?”

Gong Daoyang glanced cautiously at Wang Zhenzhen, hesitating to speak.

Seeing this, Du Heng said, ”Go on, Gong, don’t worry. If I could bring you back from that, do you think I can’t treat your other issues? Speak freely. I’m here.”

With Du Heng’s urging and reassurance, Gong Daoyang finally spoke, gesturing to one side of his body. ”This arm is very numb, and it feels like this whole side of my body is numb too. Also... I feel like I can’t quite control my leg.”

Gong Daoyang looked at Du Heng with concern and asked cautiously, ”Xiao Heng, did I have a stroke? I feel like this is hemiplegia...”

The smile on Du Heng’s face didn’t change. He looked steadily at Gong Daoyang and said, ”Come on, Gong, what are you worried about? Don’t you know what I, your younger brother, am famous for?”

The words were like a sudden enlightenment for Gong Daoyang. He instantly realized that this ’younger brother’ of his, standing right before him, was famous for treating strokes! So what on earth was there to worry about?

Having figured this out, Gong Daoyang immediately grinned in embarrassment.

”Alright, lie down properly, and put your hands by your sides. I’ll give you a check-up.” Du Heng chuckled as well, guiding Gong Daoyang to lie down before beginning the check-up.
