This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Especially when he heard the footsteps growing closer, he didn’t dare to remain kneeling. With a WHOOSH, he shot to his feet and quickly caught up to Du Heng.

When everyone in the hospital room saw Du Heng return, all eyes focused on him, but no one dared to ask anything. Only Wu Shengnan gently walked to Du Heng’s side and asked softly, ”Honey, is everything okay?”

Du Heng gently patted Wu Shengnan’s hand and chuckled. ”Of course, I’m fine. What could happen to me?”

After speaking, he looked at everyone in the hospital room, only to find that Director He had already left.

However, his departure was expected, and Du Heng wasn’t bothered. ”Thank you, Director Jia, for your help just now. Otherwise, the person who delivered the notice might have just dropped off the message and left.”

”Doctor Du, you’re too kind. Experts said my condition would take three months to recover, and even then, they weren’t sure what state I’d be in. Yet, you cured me with only three doses of medicine. You didn’t just save my health; you saved my job. I only spoke a few words of truth; it’s hardly worth such thanks. Please, Doctor Du, don’t mention it again.”

Du Heng smiled gratefully and then also thanked Feng Su and Li Qin.

”Xiao Kang, pack up. Let’s go to the Chinese Medicine Department.” After thanking everyone, Du Heng prepared to visit the Chinese Medicine Department.

It wasn’t about demanding fairness or an apology. Since he was here, and officially for an exchange, it would be improper not to pay respects to the seniors. Otherwise, those who loved to find fault would call him impolite, ill-mannered, and arrogant.

However, as soon as Du Heng turned, he saw the junior standing behind him again.

But he wasn’t surprised; he hadn’t believed for a second that the man would remain kneeling there.

”Doctor Du, let me take you to see Guan. He’s supposed to be transferred to the Municipal Mental Hospital this morning. If we miss this morning, it won’t be easy to see him again.”

The junior looked at Du Heng earnestly, now prepared to change tactics.

Since Zhang Dewen couldn’t do anything about Guan Bo’s condition, he probably wouldn’t show up for the transfer this morning. So, he wanted to take Du Heng to see Guan Bo first. This would prove he wasn’t lying. Plus, after seeing Guan Bo’s current state, Du Heng probably wouldn’t press Zhang Dewen for an apology even if they met. If this issue wasn’t brought up today, its impact would be much smaller if mentioned later. He was betting that Zhang Dewen wouldn’t visit Guan Bo, and that Du Heng would definitely want to see Guan Bo first.

And he had bet right. Du Heng did want to see Guan Bo first. As long as he could document Guan Bo’s actual current condition, he could provide a reasonable explanation to everyone following this matter.

”Alright, let’s go now,” Du Heng agreed readily.

The junior was overjoyed; things were finally looking up for him.

He immediately turned and led the way, taking Du Heng and the other two towards the Psychiatry Department.

Guan Bo’s situation was particularly difficult. He was currently symptomatic and extremely agitated, unable to be discharged or transferred conventionally. Therefore, medication and restraints were necessary.

Meanwhile, in the Psychiatry Department, the staff were discussing these procedures and obtaining consent from his family.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

The sound at the door of the Director of Psychiatry Department’s office interrupted his conversation with the family.

”Come in.” The director had no choice but to pause their discussion.

The junior led Du Heng and the others into the room.

Upon entering, the junior was about to speak when he suddenly saw the last person he wanted to encounter: Zhang Dewen. His mouth fell open, but no sound came out.

Zhang Dewen also saw Du Heng following them in and his brow furrowed instantly.

The Director of Psychiatry Department, however, didn’t notice Zhang Dewen’s reaction. He simply looked at the group entering and asked in a low voice, ”What is it?”

The junior quickly regained his composure and said hurriedly, ”This is Doctor Du Heng. He heard that Guan is ill and came to see him.”

The Director of Psychiatry Department’s expression chilled. He didn’t recognize Du Heng but knew he certainly wasn’t a relative of Guan Bo. ”I’m sorry, I’m currently speaking with the family. Non-relatives are not permitted to be present. Please wait outside.”

Having been politely rebuffed, the junior started to panic, afraid Du Heng would insist on staying. With family members and Zhang Dewen present, he was momentarily at a loss.

Du Heng, however, ignored the Director of Psychiatry Department. Instead, he looked at Zhang Dewen and said softly, ”Sir Zhang, I know this is rather presumptuous of me, but I felt I had to come.”

Zhang Dewen’s expression was grim, but he maintained his composure. ”Speak.”

Those simple words from Zhang Dewen nearly made the junior wet his pants. He whipped his head around, his face pleading as he looked at Du Heng.

Du Heng noticed the junior’s gaze. After a brief glance at him, he turned back to Zhang Dewen. ”Sir Zhang, many people are aware of the cancellation of my competition with Doctor Guan. I hope your side can issue a statement. It would be very helpful to both Doctor Guan and myself.”

Du Heng said no more. Observing the atmosphere in the office was sufficient; anything further would be overbearing.

Although Zhang Dewen looked displeased, Du Heng’s request was reasonable, and he couldn’t refute it. However, Du Heng’s timing was what he found unacceptable.

”Your request is reasonable. Once we’ve handled this current matter, I will help arrange for a public statement. How does that sound?”

”Thank you for your understanding, Sir Zhang,” Du Heng said sincerely. ”Then we’ll wait outside for you, Sir Zhang. I have a few more questions I’d like to ask you later.”

”Thank you,” Zhang Dewen said curtly, then closed his eyes.

Du Heng nodded slightly to everyone in the office and then exited.

Watching Du Heng leave, the junior heaved a profound sigh of relief. The sudden dampness spreading in his trousers, oddly, made him feel as if a great weight had been lifted.

Grateful to Du Heng, he also followed him out of the office.

Du Heng ignored the junior. Once outside, he said to Kang Zhirong, ”Did you record everything?”

Kang Zhirong nodded. ”Got it all, Dean. I’ll edit it and get it online quickly as soon as I get back.”

Hearing Kang Zhirong’s plan, Du Heng gently shook his head. ”No need. Let’s wait for Sir Zhang’s statement first.”

Kang Zhirong was stunned for a moment. ”Dean, do you mean if their statement is fine, we won’t release ours? But if they try to shift the blame to us, then we’ll...”

”Yes, that’s exactly what I mean,” Du Heng said softly, standing calmly by the office door. ”The reason I had you record was as a precaution, just in case.”

The two spoke openly, making no effort to hide their conversation from the junior. Moreover, as Du Heng finished his last sentence, he deliberately glanced at the junior beside him.

This look made the junior’s heart clench, and he offered Du Heng an awkward smile.

Truthfully, at that moment, he was immensely grateful to Du Heng, thankful for the mercy shown just now. It felt as if he had narrowly escaped death.

Looking at the junior’s awkward smile, Du Heng smiled back. ”Tell me, what exactly happened to Doctor Guan?”

As soon as Du Heng finished speaking, the junior poured out everything he knew, like beans spilling from a bamboo tube, not daring to add an extra word or omit the slightest detail.

The more Du Heng listened, however, the deeper his frown became.

For a perfectly healthy person to suddenly experience a disturbance of consciousness and a split personality—what kind of shock could trigger that? Moreover, he noted that Guan Bo had experienced sudden incontinence before his episode. This wasn’t just a simple mental disorder; it seemed more like... a collapse of Yin and Yang?

Du Heng’s eyes suddenly shot wide. Perhaps Guan Bo’s problem wasn’t psychiatric... No, that wasn’t right. The mental issues weren’t the primary problem; the root was an issue with the Yin and Yang qi in his body.

Rapidly, he reviewed the relationship between Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and the human body in his mind. While quickly organizing these thoughts, he asked the junior for more specific details about Guan Bo’s symptoms when the episode began.
