This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wang Zhenzhen felt helpless. Other than yelling, ”Hubby, don’t scare me!” her mind was blank.

She worked in a medical institution. Despite having been in finance for over ten years, when this happened to her, she felt as helpless and panicked as any ordinary person.

When the other people in the restaurant saw Gong Daoyang displaying aggression, they all retreated. No one offered help. Instead, they stood in an outer circle, pointing and gesticulating at Gong Daoyang and Wang Zhenzhen, fearing he might suddenly attack them.

Fortunately, the restaurant manager and waitstaff nervously stepped forward. They helped Wang Zhenzhen get Gong Daoyang to his feet and seated him on a chair, so they weren’t still squatting on the ground.

After his outburst, Gong Daoyang fell into a state of confusion and dazedness. His eyes were empty, his expression dull. He looked around and then at the sobbing Wang Zhenzhen in front of him.

He tried hard to recall what had happened earlier but couldn’t remember anything. He didn’t even understand who the woman in front of him was.

It was as if his brain’s mechanism had gone haywire. He tried to think of the sky, the earth, mountains, and water. Why were the people around looking at him? What was that sound of car horns outside?

But each thought only lasted three seconds in his mind before automatically jumping to the next.

His memory had become like a fish’s: seen and then forgotten, leaving no ripple behind.

He was completely stupefied.

After a brief moment of helplessness, Wang Zhenzhen finally remembered to make phone calls. She called her uncles and cousins, Yu Haiting from the Health Clinic, Instructor Huang from the police station, and her best friends. She made a whole round of calls, yet she still didn’t dare to contact her in-laws or her own parents.

The restaurant’s location was good, so the ambulance arrived quickly. Gong Daoyang was taken away even faster.

Thankfully, despite the surrounding commotion, Gong Daoyang remained in a dazed state and did not resist, allowing the medical staff to handle him.

However, quiet as he was, he fainted again as soon as he arrived at the hospital.

When he regained consciousness, half a day and a full night had passed. The test results, however, plunged Wang Zhenzhen into deeper despair.

His legs were stiff and immobile. His mind was muddled; he couldn’t recognize his family and had lost his memory.

He alternated between screaming wildly and sitting woodenly silent.

The diagnosis was: severe disturbance of consciousness and symptoms of intellectual decline.

In simpler terms, it was mental illness caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Upon hearing this, Wang Zhenzhen slumped in her chair, momentarily dazed herself.

Yu Haiting, who had been accompanying her, also stared blankly.

I misdiagnosed him, he knew. If only I hadn’t let Gong Daoyang leave yesterday morning after he woke up. If I had anticipated the worst-case scenario and arranged for hyperbaric oxygen treatment, along with nerve recovery medication and nutritional nerve drugs, perhaps this wouldn’t have happened.

However, the doctor, seeming to read his thoughts, said softly, ”Usually, nerve damage from carbon monoxide poisoning is delayed. Patients often recover on their own with proper rest. If symptoms like dizziness, headache, confusion, or consciousness disorders appear, there’s usually still time for treatment. But no one could have predicted such a rapid onset in this patient.”

Instructor Huang wasn’t interested in this jargon. He stared at the doctor and asked, ”Doctor, can this be cured?”

The doctor hesitated for a moment. ”As long as he can achieve stable recovery, there’s generally good improvement.”

”Good improvement?” Instructor Huang’s expression was stern as he looked at the doctor. ”What does that mean?”

”The patient’s illness progressed very rapidly, so a complete recovery will be challenging, but we will do our utmost. Based on past experience, his future daily life shouldn’t be affected.”

Instructor Huang fell silent, his gaze fixed on the dazed Gong Daoyang on the hospital bed.

Seeing no one else had questions, the doctor left the hospital room, leaving the space to the patient’s family.

Once the doctor left, however, no one in the hospital room knew what to say. They simply looked at each other, speechless.

Wang Zhenzhen’s family members surrounded her, whispering comforting words. Seeing her state, everyone present feared Wang Zhenzhen might suffer the same fate as Gong Daoyang.

”Zhenzhen, the doctor just said he’ll recover. It’s going to be alright.”

”That’s right. Why don’t you go home and rest? Your two children are waiting for you.”

”Go home. We’ll be here. It’ll be fine.”

Wang Zhenzhen suddenly snapped back to reality. She gently shook her head, her grip tightening on Gong Daoyang’s hand, refusing to let go.

At that moment, Yu Haiting suddenly said, ”When President Du was still at the Health Clinic, he cured Wang Shiyuan’s wife. She had been sick for many years, and countless famous doctors couldn’t help her. Why don’t we ask Dean Du to take a look?”

Hearing Yu Haiting’s suggestion, Wang Zhenzhen’s eyes suddenly lit up.

That’s right! How could I have forgotten Du Heng? Not only had Du Heng cured Wang Shiyuan’s wife, but he had also cured her aunt—Wang Shuqiu’s mother!

Both had suffered from severe mental illness, but under Du Heng’s treatment, they had seen the light again and made complete recoveries.
