This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng’s simple proposal made the junior fellow apprentice’s already tense heart pound, almost jumping out of his mouth.

He also felt a deep sense of threat.

If he agreed to Du Heng, he would face the unknown consequences of a meeting between Du Heng and Zhang Dewen.

If he didn’t agree, it was obvious he would have to bear the online influence of a ten million internet celebrity and three entertainment stars.

One was an unknown outcome, the other a known one. The junior fellow apprentice had no choice.

Since he couldn’t stop Du Heng, then...

”Doctor Du, could I have a word with you in private?”

Du Heng chuckled, glanced around, and asked, ”Can’t we talk here?”

The junior fellow apprentice quickly shook his head. ”It involves Guan’s privacy.”

”Alright then.”

Du Heng followed the junior fellow apprentice into the corridor and then to the stairwell.

”Doctor Du, can I ask you for a favor?” Once in the stairwell, the junior fellow apprentice adopted a pleading posture, looking utterly humble.

Du Heng’s smile vanished. He looked the junior fellow apprentice up and down while taking a step back. ”Let’s hear it.”

”Doctor Du, I apologize for my actions. It was my lack of conscientiousness and responsibility in my job that made you feel disregarded and disrespected. It was all my fault, and I sincerely apologize to you.”

As the junior fellow apprentice spoke, he bowed deeply to Du Heng, bending over more than ninety degrees, his attitude exceedingly sincere. ”If you’re still angry, you can slap me a couple of times or give me a couple of kicks right now.”

Du Heng narrowed his eyes. ”I wouldn’t dare. If I hit you, wouldn’t I be committing intentional injury? I’d go from being in the right to being in the wrong.

Alright, just tell me what this is about.”

Hearing Du Heng’s blunt words, the junior fellow apprentice hesitated, unsure how to begin, feeling rather embarrassed and ashamed.

Seeing this, Du Heng frowned and said, ”Are you going to speak or not? If not, I’m leaving. I still need to find Sir Zhang and Guan Bo.”

”No, no, no!” the junior fellow apprentice hurriedly exclaimed.

”Then say it.”

The junior fellow apprentice took a deep breath, looked at Du Heng with sincere eyes, and said in a somewhat subservient tone, ”Doctor Du, you can go see my teacher, and you can go see Guan, but I want to ask one thing of you.

That is, in front of my teacher, could you please not mention what happened earlier?”

Du Heng chuckled. ”Be specific. What incident are you referring to?”

”It’s about me only notifying you this morning. Please don’t tell my teacher. And also, please don’t make my teacher apologize to you.”

”That’s not one thing, that’s two things, isn’t it?” Du Heng’s smile vanished. ”Besides, why should I listen to you?

Your actions made a fool of me, made fools of the netizens following this matter, and even made fools of the leaders and seniors who went out of their way to help. Why on earth should I listen to you?

Without a significant apology, how can I face those people?

Just because you’re begging me?

Who do you think you are?”

After saying that, Du Heng turned to leave the stairwell.

But the junior fellow apprentice was quite something. With a THUD, he knelt behind Du Heng. ”Doctor Du, I’m begging you! My teacher is old; if he has to apologize to you in person, he won’t be able to bear it.”

Du Heng didn’t quite hear what the junior fellow apprentice said. This sudden kneeling gave him a bit of a headache, and he reached out to pull the junior fellow apprentice up.

But this was, after all, just Du Heng’s perspective. In fact, he felt this person was making a mountain out of a molehill.

Even if he told Zhang Dewen that he’d been notified late and that an apology was needed, the junior fellow apprentice would, at most, get a scolding, and they would lose a little face. Why resort to such desperate behavior, as if someone had died?

The junior fellow apprentice could only think this way because he was judging others by his own standards, projecting his own thoughts onto Zhang Dewen and the hospital leader. He was simply transposing his own anxieties and reactions onto Zhang Dewen and the hospital leadership.

Moreover, he was also worried about one more thing: the online power of Du Heng, Li Qin, and the others.

People had been cyberbullied to death for something as simple as ordering takeout for their father.

Others, searching for relatives online, had met similar fates.

Such examples were rampant online.

Netizens were volatile and hostile; they had profoundly mastered the dark arts of ”words that chill to the bone,” ”the terrifying power of rumors,” and ”speech as sharp as a blade.”

The junior fellow apprentice didn’t believe he could withstand the onslaught from tens of millions of netizens, nor did he think Zhang Dewen, the Hospital, or even the School could endure such ferocity—especially since he was the one at fault, his mistake laid bare for all to see. He doubted anyone would speak up for him in that situation.

He was truly terrified.

So, when Du Heng reached out to pull him up, he resisted vehemently, yelling, ”Doctor Du, if you don’t agree, I’ll stay kneeling here and won’t get up!”

Du Heng had been in the process of pulling the junior fellow apprentice up, but upon hearing those words, he instantly released the junior fellow apprentice’s arm and walked away without a second thought. ”Then keep kneeling.”

Fool. How dare he threaten me?

Du Heng was instantly incensed.

Du Heng’s resolute attitude, however, left the junior fellow apprentice dumbfounded.

That’s not right! In TV shows and movies, doesn’t the other person always reluctantly agree after you say that?

Why is this different from what I expected? Why is it different from how it plays out on TV?

Watching Du Heng’s retreating figure, he panicked.

Just then, he heard footsteps descending the stairs. He panicked even more.
