The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 799: Chapter 799: A Strong Fist is the True Primal Principle

The Emperor, a promise worth a thousand gold, how could the officer just appointed have his title revoked so quickly?

The Emperor himself wouldn’t be foolish enough to slap his own face. It’s merely a nominal position with no real power, just a stipend. Why invite gossip by taking it back? He’s not stupid.

Therefore, Song Zhiyuan’s plan to retreat in order to advance was successful. The position for the second son is firmly established. If they wish to resign in the future, that’s their business.

Most importantly, Emperor Chu himself also spoke. Honors like this, which noble family doesn’t have them? Don’t those young scions all hold one or two sinecures?

So stop complaining. If all these nominal positions were relinquished, who knows who would suffer. Besides, it’s said that Song’s second wife’s family is quite wealthy.

Thus, this matter was settled, and no one thought much of it, as they were distracted by another affair.

It was the work of that old thing, Prince Xin. He issued a proclamation sternly accusing the assassins at the Dragon Boat Festival of being the remnants and rebels of Xia Country’s former Crown Prince Yong.

The proclamation was worded harshly, meaning that these remnants are inhumane, slaughtering the innocent, acting like knaves, and attempting to disrupt Great Qing. It stated that the former Crown Prince Yong left behind only one descendant, Princess Chongyang, now the Princess Consort of Prince Min. All others claiming to be legitimate descendants are impostors, the Xia Clan wholly disowns them.

And this proclamation would be posted on the bulletin board at the city gate after the morning court, as a public announcement.

Prince Xin, now the clan leader of the Xia Clan, in charge of the now thin lineage records, by saying this has cut off the outside so-called paths of returning to ancestral rights for the former Crown Prince Yong’s lineage. Even if the rebels restore Great Xia in the future, the Xia Clan will not recognize their legitimacy.

If Song Ci were here, she would probably sneer, as legitimacy matters little. What matters is having enough muscle. With a strong enough fist, who dares to challenge you?

As for the clan, those with ambition can always start a new lineage and establish new records, can’t they?

And the common people, they care little about legitimacy or who sits on the throne, only their small homes and personal interests, whether they can live in peace and stability, and prosper.

So all these schemes and righteousness boil down to whether or not there is strength.

Strength determines one’s standing; that’s undeniable.

When Prince Xin’s proclamation was read in court, the entire court fell silent, looking towards Emperor Chu seated regally.

Emperor Chu looked down upon the officials calmly and said, ”Prince Xin is righteous.”

This was consent.

Prince Xin secretly let out a breath of relief; the accusation of disrespect towards the Emperor, held against his older wife, was now in the past.

Suddenly, a gaze fell upon him, making him distinctly uncomfortable, as if watched by a wolf.

Prince Xin instinctively glanced over but noticed nothing unusual. Instead, it was Prince Min, his nephew-in-law, nodding to him with a smile.

Prince Xin returned the smile, recalling how Princess Chongyang had vigilantly watched over for half a day yesterday, feeling a touch of warmth, wishing her this haven for a peaceful old age.

After the morning court, the proclamation was posted, causing a stir among the people, discussed quietly, as speaking too loudly could result in being deemed spies, given their ties to the previous Xia Country.

Elsewhere, a secret room lay in disarray from being smashed.

An elder let out a sigh; he disagreed with taking action against the Xia Clan.

A young man spoke gloomily, ”That old bastard Prince Xin, one day he’ll suffer unspeakable pain.”
