The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 757: Chapter 757: Official’s Words are Always Pleasing to Hear

Compared to Song Zhicheng declining his father’s affection through self-deprecation, Song Zhiyuan stated, self-deprecation? There’s really no need.

He truly doesn’t care.

”Father, a few days ago, Magistrate Xu Congyun of Jiangning Prefecture was impeached for favoring his concubine and neglecting his wife, leading to a human tragedy, and the Emperor was furious, stripping Xu of his official position.”

Everyone was taken aback.

The Old Madam Song’s heart trembled a bit: ”Stripped, stripped of his position?”

Song Ci was also very shocked and asked: ”What human tragedy?”

Song Zhiyuan: ”Madam Xu first strangled the newborn concubine’s son, and then drank poison with her two daughters, dying on the spot.”

Song Ci’s hand trembled slightly, that ruthless?

Old Madam Song’s legs shook as she uttered: ”Truly the most venomous is a woman’s heart.”

Song Ci gave him a fierce glare, laughed coldly: ”What you sow is what you reap, aren’t you listening to what the eldest is saying? It was because that Xu man favored his concubine over his wife. So, don’t offend your wife; when they become ruthless, they can wipe out your entire family in no time.”

Everyone present, except her, was a man, and all had wives.

The expressions on the men’s faces were somewhat inexplicable, and they twitched the corners of their mouths, you really don’t have to be so openly sarcastic.

”That Madam Xu was actually a very virtuous person, just of a weak disposition. Because she didn’t produce a son, the mother-in-law was dissatisfied and promoted a niece from her own family as the Noble Concubine, who gave birth to a concubine’s son. Once the Noble Concubine gained power, she dared to hit and scold the Official Wife and the legitimate daughters from the original marriage,” Song Zhiyuan calmly stated: ”Because of this, Madam Xu and her daughters had lower status in the household than even the servants, and after that concubine’s son was born, Old Madam Xu wanted Madam Xu to go from legitimate wife to concubine, to demote herself and make space for that Noble Concubine’s son. This finally angered Madam Xu to the point where she did such a thing. Before that, she had also given Mr. Xu infertility medicine.”

”So tragic!” Song Ci sighed: ”This is an example of a cornered rabbit biting back. Don’t underestimate women. When women become ruthless, they can cause you endless pain and end your lineage.”

Old Madam Song: ”...”

Just shut up!

Song Zhicheng looked at his father’s pale face, then silently glanced at his elder brother, secretly giving a thumbs up.

”Mr. Xu was impeached, the Emperor was furious, immediately stripping him of his position, and proclaimed during court that without a harmonious home, how can one govern the world? Hence, every official went back to put their home affairs in order, fearing to become the next Magistrate Xu.” Song Zhiyuan looked at Old Madam Song and said: ”Father, as a senior minister in court, a Prime Minister of the state, I ought to set an example and not give others any hold over me. Otherwise, Father, do you intend for me to retire at this age?”

This truly struck Old Madam Song right at a crucial point.

What is it that allowed the Song Family to enjoy its current prestige, if not for the Prime Minister, the eldest?

If he were to retire, what would the Song Family have left to sing about?

”Well, the Emperor values you, who would retire? You weren’t sent to study hard to retire early, naturally, you’re to serve the country with devotion and diligence.” Old Madam Song touched his nose, face full of righteousness.

”But your intention of caring...”

”Father only thought you were working hard and wanted more people to serve you. Since you don’t find it bothersome, it’s up to you.” Old Madam Song interrupted him.

Song Ci sneered, rolling her eyes, wanting to retort a few words.

However, Song Zhiyuan said: ”Father has good intentions, but there’s no need to worry about such matters in the future. Whether having servants or not is secondary. It’s just that, we’re afraid someone with ill intentions might exploit Father, using you to strike against our whole family, which would be a significant blow.”

Hear that, officials have such a pleasing way of speaking.
