The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 794: Chapter 794: Mother’s Extraordinary Insight

Song Zhiyuan saw the smiles on everyone’s faces at home, which also made him happy. However, as a clear-headed Family Head, he still maintained a serious expression and gave some warnings.

”Second brother has obtained this official position, so now, in our generation of the Song Family, there is not a single commoner. Outsiders envy us countless times over. Therefore, when dealing with others outside, always remain cautious and humble, and avoid being too flamboyant and high-profile, lest we give others a handle to attack us.”

Everyone was startled, quickly assuring their understanding.

”Regarding today’s incident with the assassin, several families in the capital suffered deaths and injuries. Presumably, people will gradually come to report the funerals. For the condolences tomorrow, it is inconvenient for the Gu family to go. Second brother’s wife and third brother’s wife, you should accompany mother, or go separately. It’s hard on you.”

Madam Jiang and Madam Lu quickly said they did not dare.

Song Zhiyuan didn’t say anything further, letting them disperse one by one, then escorted Song Ci back to Chunhui Hall.

”Eldest seems to have a heavy heart.” Song Ci glanced at Song Zhiyuan: ”Do you think the second brother getting an official position is not good?”

Supporting her, Song Zhiyuan smiled and said, ”Mother, you’re joking. After second brother has been wronged for so many years, now having an official position, how could it not be a good thing?”

”The eyes don’t deceive. There’s worry in your eyes.” Song Ci shook her head. She studied acting, so she understood that someone’s eyes can’t fool others.

Song Zhiyuan remained silent.

”Indeed, I have concerns. With the Song family being so prominent, I don’t know if it will be transient. Beneath the surface, there are thorns. I fear the next generation may not be cultivated yet, but the thorns have already grown.”

Song Ci patted the back of the hand he placed on her arm and said, ”You hold a high position, so you’re accustomed to seeing the negative side first. This is the caution you’ve learned from years in office, and it’s correct. But you don’t have to worry excessively.”

”Please, Mother, give some pointers.”

”I’m just an old woman, what guidance can I provide? You’re just teasing your mother.”

Song Zhiyuan laughed and said, ”They say when three people walk together, one can be my teacher. Your opinion might enlighten me with a new perspective.”

”Since when did you become like fourth brother and learn his sweet-talking?” Song Ci glanced at him and said, ”I am not involved in affairs; the farthest my eyes can see is the world of the inner courtyard. However, sometimes I see the big through the small, thus thinking far ahead.”

”You don’t need to worry too much. The current Song family isn’t in imminent danger. As long as you remember not to covet imperial power, not to engage in battles for succession, and focus solely on being a part of the Royalist Party, there’s no need to fear trouble for the Song family. As for second brother’s official position, it’s merely an honorary accolade. You know in your heart it’s merely receiving salary without taking on duties, something the Emperor gave for free.”

”Such an official position is dispensable. At worst, when Jie’er and others become officials later, just have second brother resign. Our family doesn’t lack that bit of salary, nor this kind of position.” Song Ci paused and looked at him, ”As long as the foundation of the Song family is solid, it won’t easily fall. Eldest, since you’re now a Prime Minister, laying the foundation depends on you. A great evergreen tree with lush foliage won’t be easily destroyed, do you understand?”

”Mother, you mean?”

”It’s still the same; focus on cultivating family descendants. In fact, it’s the children who can take charge independently that can withstand great changes. If the descendants are resilient enough, even if the family undergoes great change, as long as they lie dormant and seize the opportunity to act, can’t they, too, once again rise from adversity? So, train the family offspring well, for they are the foundation; then, there’s no fear of change.” Song Ci smiled and said, ”Eldest, don’t fear the collapse of a great tree. As long as it still has roots, if the roots aren’t rotten, it can grow again.”

Song Zhiyuan felt a significant shock in his heart.

Seeing her astute son so captivated at that moment, Song Ci almost wanted to applaud herself: This old lady hasn’t studied in vain—such an extraordinary insight!
