The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 793: Chapter 793: Good Fortune Comes to House Number 2

When Eunuch Zhou returned to the palace, he reported to Emperor Chu about the words of the Song Family, especially that remark from Song Lingzhao.

”Oh, did he really say that?” Emperor Chu showed some interest.

Eunuch Zhou bowed slightly and said, ”How dare this servant speak untruths before the Emperor? I found it quite amusing at the time; although the second young master of the Song Family appears quite carefree, he seems to be someone with great ambitions.”

Emperor Chu, stroking his fingers, said, ”For now, the education of the Song family’s children appears to be adequate, and they’re on the right path.”

Eunuch Zhou thought for a moment and said, ”I vaguely remember Prime Minister Song saying something before, although I can’t recall the exact words, something along the lines of them being from a poor family, needing to put in more effort and worry more compared to other aristocrats, especially regarding the upbringing of their children.”

”Yunzhi has always been the clear-headed one,” Emperor Chu said lightly. ”Only with clarity of thought can one go further, whether it’s an individual or a family.”

Eunuch Zhou dared not reply and only mentioned that Second Master Song was generous, rewarding someone with a big red envelope.

Emperor Chu laughed, ”You really got a good deal. I heard that Second Madam Song is an orphaned daughter, and her family is well-versed in commerce. That little red envelope must be nothing to her.”

Eunuch Zhou chuckled, ”But there are quite a few wealthy people who are miserly. I think the elderly Madam Song set a good example; look, she donates to the Charitable Hall every year.”

Emperor Chu squinted at him, ”So, after receiving benefits, now you’re eager to speak well of the Song family?”

Eunuch Zhou immediately knelt down to plead for mercy, ”How dare this servant. But truth be told, there is indeed that little sense of being short-handed.”

It’s always better to admit openly than to cover up.

Emperor Chu chuckled with a snort and said, ”Draft a few more imperial edicts, and tomorrow have Prince Xiao and the others go to the Xia clan to announce them.”

Since a few people have died, it’s necessary to offer some comfort, and the best comfort, naturally, is to grant official positions or the like.

Thinking of this, a shadow of gloom crossed Emperor Chu’s eyes again. The remnants of the previous Crown Prince’s actions had to be settled by him; it was beyond irritating to even mention.

...

The whole Song Family was in a joyous mood; if not for the fact that several people had died in the capital today, they might have hung up a pair of large firecrackers, causing a deafening boom.

”Big brother, what kind of official is the Steward of Tai Pu Temple?” Song Zhicheng asked happily.

Song Zhiyuan replied indifferently, ”In my words, it’s a ninth-rank trivial official because this position has never existed in the Great Qing, but the Emperor created it just to give you a title. To be frank, it’s given for free; you only receive a salary without responsibilities. Oh, if you wish to manage something, you could stroll around with the horses daily?”

Song Zhicheng: ”...”

Why are you speaking such obvious truths?

Song Ci almost burst out laughing and said, ”It’s still better than being some arbitrary horse officer.”

At least the arbitrary horse officer is a top position.

However, getting an official title for free is good, after all, it’s just a name without needing to do anything.

”What kind of official is an arbitrary horse officer?” Song Lingzhao asked.

Song Ci: ”It’s a very classic official; there’s no need to explain.”

Song Zhicheng, however, was delighted and said, ”No matter what, I am not a commoner anymore.” He looked at Song Lingzhao, giving him a heavy pat on the shoulder, ”You’ve not been raised in vain all these years, son, your father is truly comforted.”

Good things happen every year, and this year it’s his turn.

Song Lingzhao blinked and said, ”If that’s the case, then no matter what I do in the future, Father, for the sake of my filial piety, please forgive me once, okay?”

”Sure.”

Song Zhicheng responded casually. In his view, as long as his child wasn’t engaging in heinous crimes like committing adultery or plunder, there’s nothing unforgivable.

Song Lingjie rubbed his forehead, thinking that their father likely had no idea what he’d just agreed to and hoped he wouldn’t regret it in the future.
